Merrifield Garden Center has a plush abundance of indoor and outdoor plants. We came here looking for evergreen flowering shrubs to replace the gradually and painfully dying shrubs in the beds in front of our house. We looked around their inventory to get an idea of what Merrifield had available. When we were satisfied we were ready to ask questions, a gal nearby appeared and asked if we had any questions. We did, and she answered thoroughly. She also recommended what potting soil to use. There's also a little open air stand out in the shrub section with somebody there available to provide assistance. We settled on several Caventine Andromedas and one Camellia Londontowne Blush. Keeping my fingers crossed that these babies do well in our not the best in the world clay soil. By the way, we also checked out Lowe's and Home Depot to see if they had anything comparable, and they did not.

Service was ok, a little confusing as I got one notice saying they were delivered, but they actually weren't. Then a second notice saying it was hand delivered, what the email didn't say was that it was hand delivered to a neighbor. They left a voice mail message with the recipient phone, but I would have also liked a notification of the change, as the sender, instead of chasing it down 3 times. At least have an option in the email notification whether they were left elsewhere. If you are looking for a more unique design or upscale aesthetic, I would go elsewhere, but if you're looking for a place to get a nice arrangement, this is a good place to go, and as always it's nice to support a local business.

I guess, mostly by habit, if I needed plants or flowers, I would drive a few more minutes up the road to the Home Depot, since I always thought HD was cheaper. I purchased my usual assortment from Home Depot of herbs (basil, cilantro, etc.) as well as a few tomato varietals in mid-March 2023, however, by late April most of the plants were dead. Granted, it was a colder than usual Spring season, but these plants should've been hearty enough to withstand a bit of frost. As I have a penchant for supporting small businesses, I decided to finally pop in the Miracle Garden Center, and departed asking myself, "what took me so long to check this place out?" Located off of busy Rt. 236 (Little River Turnpike), it is easy to miss this mom and pop business. Look for a white 1-story structure with the "Miracle Garden Center" signs affixed to the building. There are a few parking spots in front and around the side for easy access. Upon passing through the gates, I was struck by the sheer variety of vegetation ranging from indoor/outdoor flowers, mini-trees, and of course, plants for your garden. I picked up a few pepper varieties since I always love fresh chilis and got a fantastic price on some habanero, serrano, and Hungarian wax peppers. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any Thai Chili plants, but the gentleman watering the plants indicated that their supplier didn't carry it this season. I also picked up a few tomato varietals such as Roma, cherry, and a Sungold. Of note, the Italian Basil, sweet mint, and Cilantro that I purchased a few weeks ago have also flourished in my garden since I planted them in late mid-May. No knock against them, but unlike my experiences asking questions of the staff at HD about frequency of watering, recommended amount of sunlight exposure, etc, the team at Miracle Garden are friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to share their their wealth of information. Now that I'm headed back into my office more often, I even picked up a snake plant for my desk, since this is a very "low maintenance" plant which is not only super easy to care for, but has numerous benefits (https://www.healthline.com/health/benefits-of-snake-plant#benefits) including air filtration and oxygenation. Chatting with the staff, I understand they also carry seasonal items such as pumpkins in the Fall and Christmas trees during the winter. Miracle Garden Center is just the type of local business I love to support and recommend to the Yelp community.

This place is fantastic!…read more So, I only have a 5' x 9' balcony in my condo in Bethesda on which to garden. In April, I had started some herbs, morning glories, and a San Marzano from seed. They seemed to be really liking the morning, Eastern-facing sunlight they've been provided with, since moving them outside mid-May. To this IPO of a garden, I wanted to add a "pollinator planter". I did a quick search for garden centers in the area, and American Plant popped right up. I made a note in my daily planner to visit, and I'm so glad I did. They made finding what I was looking for so easy! On display was a list of all the native pollinators, categorized by season, and how much light/shade they require. I picked up a coneflower, verbena, aster, bronze fennel, and a New Guinea impatient for good measure, + a 17" terra-cotta planter for about a hundred dollars...insane. Everything looked very healthy, the staff was pleasant/helpful, and it was definitely affordable. Gardening is okay as addictions go, right? You could go to one of those mega-stores (you know what I'm talking about), but they won't have any native species, a helpful staff, and you won't save any money. Do yourself a favor, and plan a trip to American Plant. Maybe I'll see ya there!

I came here looking for a few items for a landscaping project at my home and found everything I needed. Prepare to spend a lot of time looking at the best selection of healthy, well taken care of plants in DMV...imho. If you need an idea of what to do in your outdoor space, this Nursery is the answer. The majority of the flowers on display were the fall Chrysanthemum 9" mums. There were all kinds of assortments of those mums. I did notice some nice Montauk daisies that have still yet to bloom. I ended-up getting the Basil Everleaf Genovese plant and some awesome purple Petunias. There were a lot of leftover pumpkins and other fall stuff that were listed on sale as well. I wonder if this garden center sells Christmas trees, because I didn't notice too many things related to the Christmas holiday. This is a great garden and flower shop and it almost reminds me of my very first job at a flower shop when I was 12.

I was looking for a money tree plant. She directed me to them. There were only 2 left. It was rather small. The price was $19.99. Which was pretty steep for such a small plant. I had bought one at Wholefoods at the same price but a lot bigger. I told her that I will be back to buy the plant since I didn't want to carry the plant to another store and it was very hot outside. She said she would hold it for me. It only took me 15 minutes to come back. Once I came back, the woman that worked there said I held it for you. As she handed to me. I was dismayed. The plant had broken leaves, leaves that had been damaged by bugs . I had asked her if I could buy the other plant that was sitting behind the register. She said no. She was holding it for a customer. I said to her that I am here, and Im ready to buy it. She then lies and says a customer had already paid for it. Yet there was no receipt or any indications that it was actually paid for. She asked if I wanted the brokeb plant.. I said will there be any discounts as the plant had lost a lot leaves and is nothing like the other one. She said no, But we have a 20% off sale ... no thanks . Keep it. The woman lied . Why i dont know. Majority of the plants are overpriced. You're better off going to a local nursery. Why support a business with shady practices.

We went to the store back to back weekends and one of the staff members was working both times and he remembered us and asked follow up questions on how things were going with our plant area. The quality of plants is really nice, a little more expensive than a Home Depot selection, but that's to be expected. It's a little hidden in the Ballston mall but it's a hidden gem.
