YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017: 57/100 Per my previous review, Maynila has THE BEST crispy pata I've ever had. And that's the ONLY reason I'd come here. Oh, and their sisig. Honestly, I've had a taste for the pata for quite some time, so I suggested it for dinner to the Hubbers. He agreed. We were about 20 minutes away and it was an hour to closing time so I called to make the order for pick up. It's a good thing I did since they said it was going to take about 25 minutes. We got there and, yep... they were about ready to shut the place down. Except we walked in and there was another couple already in there going through the menu trying to decide what to eat. I couldn't help but notice that the people manning the front didn't seem too happy to see us. (Yeah, I saw that "shrug.") I guess they were ready to just bounce outta there and seeing that we just walked in means they're gonna be there a bit longer. I let the other couple get their orders in first. Once I told them I called for an order of crispy pata for pick up, their demeanor changed. For the better, albeit slight. They probably felt relieved since my order was ready. Their pata is to die for. The skin is cooked to a nice crisp, and the meat was tender, juicy. It was a droolfest before grubbing on it. It sucks that it's sooooo bad for anyone's health because I would come here everyday for that! And if it weren't for that noticeable attitude by the staff, I might've just upped the rating a little more. That crispy pata is their saving grace because without it... meh. But there will be a next time. Let's see how they do then! read more

My friend recently celebrated her birthday here. She reserved the giant party room off to the side and had a buffet with Maynila food. It was my first time ever going to Maynila on Main Street and overall I was pretty impressed. My favorites from the items server were the chicken pastel, beef kalderata and lumpia shanghai. I found everything to be really flavorful. The beef kalderata was had lots of tender beef, potato, carrots and great sauce. I loved the tomato sauce over white rice. Saucy filipino dishes are always delicious! The chicken pastel was also very rich and creamy. I loved how there was lots of white chicken pieces. The lumpia shanghai was definitely my favorite as well as most of the guest's favorite! They kept having to refill the tray because it would always run out. (That was one of the things that impressed me. They were never stingy with refilling the food trays! It's always a plus to have restaurant that makes sure the guests don't go hungry.) I really enjoyed the food at my friend's party here and I'm definitely looking into coming and getting food here when I'm in the area. read more

We always order food from here, over the years and their Crispy Pata is one of the best. I was ecstatic to see that they do deliveries and wanted to order our favorites from here: Crispy Pata, Liempo Chips and Deep Fried Smelt. Order came in earlier than expected but was a little annoyed with the packaging...nothing to worry about as am sure it can be remedied in future deliveries. You can never use styrofoam for deep fried stuff being delivered as it will melt. But....the deep fried food paired well with my seaweed salad. Happy Eating!!! read more

The smallest order of lumpiang shanghai is 25 pieces that are decent size, about two inches. It was hot and fresh. There is a a little more carrot in the mixture than I usually see. Tastes ok. It originally had a larger container of sauce which the lady took out and put a small container instead. It is the small individual containers you would get for a six piece order for example. I would have to pay $1.50 for each additional sauce. I got a little frustrated because it seemed an unnecessary nickle and dime-ing but the place was completely empty. I decided against extra sauce. I don't know why I gave her a nice tip instead of buying a couple more sauces. Stupid me. read more

Was there for lunch today. Ordered Pinakbet and pork BBQ with rice. Got the BBQ and rice but the Pinakbet hasn't been served yet after 25 mins. We got done with lunch before the Pinakbet was served. Service was poor. Pork BBQ and Pinakbet was ok at best. The price is a little high compared to other Filipino food restaurants. On the menu, there are 3 sizes of Crispy Pata listed and when I tried to order the small one I was informed that all they have is the large one for almost $30. Went here for food, booze, and a drunk karaoke on Saturday night. Karaoke starts at 9pm and the hosts were two funny and beautiful drag queens. Before I talk about the karaoke experience, I'll just talk about the food, service and actual place. I really like the ambience of this place. Their menu prices are pretty good. Most food is under 10 dollars for some good traditional Filipino food. I tried their pig instestines on a skewer and charred to a crisp and it was not bad. Moving on to the drinks, I got the pasay Mai Tai which was about 5-6 bucks. It was pretty strong though, I think they added more shots to it and I can barely drink it. (But I did anyway because I love alcohol) I really like the servers too, they were quick and efficient. Everyone there was pretty welcoming. First time we walked in all eyes were on us including the drag hosts and they welcomed us. I never thought I would actually do karaoke in front of a crowd! I was scared but the drinks kicked in and everyone in my group peer pressured me in and I sang. Nobody there is to judge you, its karaoke. Whether you're good or bad in karaoke, you're there to have a good time and eat some good food. P.s. I sang Video games by Lana Del Rey and I put a little sadness in everyone's hearts. I was craving sisig so bad and my friend recommended this place. Ordered sisig, fried calamari and saging con yelo. Sisig: it's almost as good as Magic Wok's sisig. The sisig was tasty and super crispy. I couldn't stop eating it that night. Fried calamari ($9.25): the fried calamari tasted so familiar...it tasted like KFC's breading, but in a good, tasty way. Finger licking good!! I couldn't stop eating this dish too!! Saging con yelo ($4.25): it was just banana with milk. Yuck!! It was super expensive for what I got and I didn't like this dessert. Large rice ($3.25): they charge for rice, just like other Filipino restaurants. QUICK TIP: THEY HAVE KARAOKE AND FILIPINO CHANNEL. 4 stars!! I would come back for its sisig and fried calamari again!! In the last 3 years or so, I learned that Filipino food is more than just delicious crispy lumpia. I was super excited when I got to try another local Filipino restaurant for my boyfriend's brother's birthday. This place is supposedly known for their crispy pata... so of course we ordered some. It's basically a deep fried pork hock (knuckle, trotter), hence the cripsy, and served with a soy-vinegar dipping sauce. The crispiness was just amazing, and the meat just fell apart to the touch because it was so tender. SARAP! :) Other staples we ordered: Lechon kawali-- deep fried pork, made of the fatty pork belly parts... with mang tomas dipping sauce, which is made specifically for lechon. Sisig-- pork parts, typically snout, ears, served on a hot plate and flavored with vingear. It typically comes with an egg on it, but here it was an option, and we opted to keep the egg out. Bagaong fried rice-- It's pink because it's made with a shrimp paste, which many people find kind of stinky, but it was good. Canton pancit-- It's Filipino tradition to eat noodles on your birthday, as it symbolizes long life. I think this was one of my favorite pancit dishes of all time!!! Lumpia with peanut sauce-- not the crispy kind... it feels llike a salad wrapped in a carb. It was okay, but the peanut sauce was delicious! Platter of fried/grilled food-- It included intestines (fatty and yummy), fish, shrimp mussels, pork belly, etc. We also had halo halo. The halo halo had too much ice and the ice itself wasn't fine enough-- too rough... It ruined the whole balance of the dessert. Overall the food was generally good... not as good as some that I've had at people's homes, but the crispy pata pushes the rating for this place up! read more

Came here with my aunt and her friends and had dinner. Ordered crispy pata, kaldereta, and palabok. All three were really good. Make sure to order something sweet after. Or limit yourself to how much pata you'll eat or else you'll feel like throwing up after from how fatty the pata is. I ordered their mango smoothie was pretty good. The place was empty on a Wednesday night and it was us and another table on the other side. They seemed to be understaffed since we kept in flagging down the waiter to refills, rice refills, and desert orders. Seemed like he was also the cook. I noticed he was the person that made my smoothie too. And also it was hella hot in this place and they didn't have the A/C on and I feel really uncomfortable eating when it's hot and humid in the evening. The food was ok. It was not that fresh in my opinion. Not the best Filipino food I've had. Was around the area and decided to check it out because they had ok reviews. The place is pretty big. Traditional Filipino decor. Lots of fans which is a plus in this heat! They tried to over charge me a plate. I'm sure it was an honest mistake but that took from my experience. I have been invited to Maynila Restaurant for several special occasions. Most recently I attended a Graduation Dinner on May 28, 2016. As usual, the buffet was delicious with many wonderful choices of Filipino cuisine, and the service was great with waiters and waitresses checking around and taking away used food plates as needed. My fave Filipino restaurant thus far. Being Filipino, when I go eat out at a Filipino restaurant, I expect it to be better than eating at home. And Maynila def impressed! (Don't tell my mom though lol) Sizzling sisig, crispy pata, calamares, and kaldereta. BOOM! U will not be disappointed! Also, they have this new menu item ADOBO WINGS. Wow! I'm really not the type of person who writes reviews unless my experience with an establishment is either horrible or spectacular. This would be the former. We came here and immediately noticed that the people working there weren't thrilled to see us. They're not as welcoming as other Filipino restaurants. They see customers as burdens. I know restaurant life can be stressful since I was a server once but c'mon! Show a little bit of enthusiasm in your work. Give your customers a smile at least. Most of you just keep rolling your eyes whenever a new customer comes. Yes, I was observing all of you. Also, the waitress took so long to come to us just to take our orders. The food itself also took a while. Some of their food are great but some are just okay. My friend really loved the isaw, sisig, and palabok. Their beefsteak is okay, not the best we've had. We also asked our waitress for some simple condiments like vinegar or ketchup and my goodness it took almost 30 mins before we finally got her attention. They gave it to us just when we're about to finish our food. I'm not sure if they're just understaffed but even then, they should attend to their customers and their needs. That's your job! We really didn't even tip the waitress that much since she was absent most of our stay and just kept giving us dirty looks every time we ask for something. We honestly didn't feel welcomed here. Unfortunately, our first visit will also be our last. This is the worst customer service I've ever had in a restaurant. Our server never came back to refill water or check up on us .. When we asked them to explain our bill they claimed that they charged us a " $3.45 service charge" .. When we asked what the service charge was the worker couldn't even explain it to us .. The food is definitely good here but watch out for what they charge you on your bill ... I'm assuming it's because the server is busy either cooking, taking orders or playing the role of cashier. We go here to get our Filipino food fix. My hubby was born in Philippines and all his relatives came from there. My hubby and his cousin know their shit. I don't, but I just go along. hahaha. Everytime I go here, I always see lots of Filipinos, and I think this is their secret spot to get good food. I love their Sinigang. Garlic fried rice is awesome and the portion is big enough to feed at least four, if you are ordering other entrees. Their crispy pata is heartstopping good. I literally feel like my heart is stopping after their food because Filipino food, let's face it, is pretty fatty, or may be the stuff we order are fatty. Their barbecued meat is sooooooo freakin good. I won't recommend getting their Kare Kare there. I somehow remembered how good Kare Kare was from another place, and ordered it here once, and absolutely hated it. May be there are people who do like it. My family and I came here one night for dinner, and it was sooo loud due to kareoke music playing over the speakers. I found myself yelling my order over the music. Our waiter said the food portions were good for 3-4 people but they were only good for like 2, in my opinion (come on, Filipinos like to eat!). The service was not very good...he brought us all our food before any of us got our water. Water is so basic! How could you not serve that right away? I agree the food was good, but I think I favor my grandma's home cooked meals more. Also I had ordered a mango smoothie (which WAS delicious and had sweet mango bits in it) but there was a disgusting hair in it and it made me lose my appetite. The cocktails were bland too and can not be distinguished from one another. My friend and I bought the Maynila Madness and the Makita Mayhem yet we had to taste each others drinks to know what's mine. Overall, the place is good for casual hangouts with friends or family.
