If you're trying to decide where to stay when visiting North Cascades National Park, let this be your sign: book Mazama Ranch House. We stayed here from July 3-10 for my 30th birthday trip, and I genuinely can't imagine a better home base. In fact, I would go as far as saying Mazama Ranch House isn't just a place to sleep, it's a destination and retreat all on its own. When I was researching places to stay for a week of hiking in the North Cascades, I had a few priorities. I wanted to be close enough to the park that we weren't spending hours driving every day. I wanted peace and quiet, not crowds. Most importantly, I wanted to feel immersed in nature. Mazama Ranch House exceeded every expectation. We stayed in one of the double queen rooms in the Wings, and it was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable. The kitchenette had everything we needed, and the porches on both sides of the building were perfect for enjoying the sunrise with coffee and watching the sunset after long days on the trail. Every detail made it feel cozy without sacrificing functionality. One of the biggest surprises was how convenient the location was. We could walk to the Mazama Store for groceries and gas, as well as the nearby restaurant/brewery, yet the property still felt wonderfully secluded. The grounds are absolutely stunning. Wide-open green meadows and fields, ponderosa pines with singing birds, stunning landscaping, hammocks, picnic tables, peaceful walking paths, and a hot tub that quickly became our favorite post-hike tradition. After spending 8-10 hours exploring North Cascades each day, soaking in the hot tub while surrounded by nothing but nature was exactly what we needed before doing it all again the next morning. What really stood out was the atmosphere. Everyone staying there seemed to be seeking the same thing: peace, adventure, and an appreciation for the outdoors. It never felt crowded or noisy, just calm and restorative. Check-in couldn't have been easier. Our room number was waiting on a sticky note at the front entrance, and everything was ready when we arrived. During our week-long stay, housekeeping checked in to see if we needed fresh towels or anything else, and every interaction was warm and welcoming. We also had the chance to meet one of the owners, who took the time to chat with us and recommend several fantastic hikes around Mazama outside the national park. That personal touch made an already memorable stay even more special. This is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. I can already picture myself returning for another hiking trip, a birthday getaway, an anniversary, or simply a quiet weekend to disconnect and recharge. Leaving was honestly the hardest part. I wasn't ready to trade the peaceful mornings, mountain air, and incredible tranquility for everyday life. If you're looking for luxury, you'll find it here in a different way. Not through extravagance, but through simplicity, thoughtful hospitality, breathtaking surroundings, and the kind of peace that's becoming harder and harder to find. We have stayed at the Mazama Ranch House four times. We visit the Ranch House to enjoy the fabulous cross-country skiing that is available literally right outside your door. We have shared the main ranch house with friends, which is comfortable, but certainly not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. The kitchen is decent, and adequately stocked with utensils that you might need for cooking during your stay. The bedrooms are very nice and comfortable. The bathrooms not so much. The upstairs bathroom is a tiny TINY bathroom with a tiny TINY shower stall. The downstairs bathroom is much better, more spacious. We have also rented the rooms in the side wings of the Ranch House. We found these very comfortable, with good beds, a small kitchenette and a little sitting porch that looks out on the valley and ski trails. The rooms are more updated than the main ranch house facility. This past year, we rented the Longhorn Cabin, which is really quite rustic. There is a futon downstairs, a wood stove (which works great, BTW), a small kitchen with an antique but functioning refrigerator, baseboard heating, an area to keep your skis/boots near the door and a small eating area. There is a loft room upstairs with a full-size bed that is accessible by ladder. Also, a very small bathroom with a terrible shower head. No warm gushes of soothing water post-ski available here. Still, we truly enjoyed staying in the Long Horn cabin, despite the bathroom, and will definitely return again. Contrary to the other reviewer, we have always had excellent dealings with the owner Steve and his staff members. He was always very friendly, and definitely keeps the facilities well-maintained. The hot tub, rooms, common areas and clubhouse (called the "Chicken Coop" ) were always kept clean. I would definitely recommend the Mazama Ranch House to anyone, as long as they were clear that it is not a luxury facility. It is wonderful, but it is a little rustic. read more

What a lovely ranch house that welcomes groups and horses! The owner is terrific and accomodating. We were here for a wedding and couldn't have been happier with the way everything turned out. Plenty of space for our crowd to sleep and visit, a hammock for lounging, lots of parking, lush grass yard, safe hot tub, spacious and clean barn (dancing happened upstairs; catering used the lower level for feeding 80 people), appropriate decor (lots of old pictures of the area and the ranch), clean and quaint. I hear people come for cross-country skiing, hiking, biking and horseback riding. The local store just outside the entrance has great food (made fresh daily) and fresh fruits. I bought a "Mazama" sweatshirt for $40 and it's THE SOFTEST one I've ever touched and a great memory of a fantastic stay! read more

What a great place to enjoy "big sky" country! A family vacation in august brought new englanders to this gorgeous location and this absolutely charming ranch house. Neat as a pin with a front porch that runs in front of the units complete with comfortable chairs to enjoy the unbelieveable view! An open fire pit (the real deal!), and picnic tables on the beautiful green lawn (flowers were amazing!) made family style eating easy - and the perfect place to do star gazing! Great hiking, river rafting, horseback riding and swimming - or just hanging out at the Mazama General Store (another 5 stars!) sipping coffee and the BEST pastries ever! The drive from Seattle had all of us craning our necks out the window - the cascades are unbelieveable! One of the best vacations ever!!! We'll be back!!! read more

My wedding was at the Mazama Ranch House this past weekend, and I couldn't ask for a better venue for my rustic/vintage wedding. The setting is amazing, right in front of mountains and surrounded by beautiful fields! We rented out the entire venue for the weekend, which was great as it fit my wedding party and family perfectly. Guests stayed nearby at the Mazama Country Inn and at cabins/hotels in Mazama and Winthrop. We had our ceremony outside in the fields by the ponderosa pines, dinner was also outside (I recommend a tent as it's either super hot or a chance of rain) and we danced the night away in the upper level of the barn. I absolutely loved the barn! It was so gorgeous decorated with white Christmas lights, and also so unique. Most importantly, Steve and his staff were great to work with. They were very responsive to all my emails and calls in the months and weeks prior to the wedding, and also helpful the wedding weekend when we were setting up. Steve, the owner, is VERY unfriendly and difficult to work with. I tried booking a weekend there for my entire family. Only to find out a few weeks before we were to arrive that he had given one of their rooms away. He was unapologetic. Half of my family ended up staying at the Mazama Country Inn next door. read more

The ranch house is an incredibly fun place to stay! The rooms are clean, comfortable and Steve and his staff are warm, accommodating and very friendly. We loved our stay and only wish the rooms had A/C so we could have stayed longer. Lots of horse people come with their horses and it is a hopping busy place with horse people, hikers and family. It can get a little crowded as the rooms are close together and there are people walking by your room all the time, looking in and what not. Doors and windows open to let breeze in as it was hot hot hot during the day. So its not the best place if you want privacy and A/C. The Mazama general store is right across the street so we got our food from there daily along with amazing dinners from Country Inn dining room also across the street and also ate at Kelly's down the street and had the most amazing service and home made black bean burger we have ever had. The people in Mazama are so warm and friendly and we loved our time there. The staff at the General store make you feel like family. Best coffee and baked goods that we have ever had! Hats off to Steve and his staff for creating a rustic ranch experience with amazing customer service. Thank you Steve!! read more

We happened upon the Mazama Ranch House when we decided it was too cold to camp. We got the last room in the Longhorn Cabin. What an incredibly pleasant and rustic surprise. It felt like staying in one of those old time towns you tour through as a kid. Our own little log house cabin for the evening with the most adorable vintage fridge. There was a full kitchen with a good supply of dishes and utensils, which was great as we had already got food for camping. The double bed was up a ladder in the loft (so maybe not the best for older guests or anyone not ok with the climb). Apparently the owners were away but the older gentleman that checked us in was so kind and welcoming. Even though we were woken up around 5 am by the cows and horses right next to us, we expected nothing less staying right on a ranch and absolutely hope to return.
