This place is still open even for takeout. I loved that my food was wrapped up so secure it didn't spill everywhere in my car on the ride home. The food was OK for a Mexican restaurant. The service was good but a bit slow. What I did not like was my cold Cocktail de Camarones (my fav Mexican dish that should be a succulent tangy refreshing treat loaded with flavors). I was served few shrimp in a tepid yellow water with a slice of cucumber stuck on the rim of the glass. Unpeeled thick oval slice of cucumber where the lime should be.. Awefull. I tasted this yellow concoction - it tasted like shrimp broth. It had few tiny dices of avo and something pink on the bottom. When I told the waiter that this yellow bland dish is very different from what I know it should be and from the picture on their menu, I was told to put some ketchup in it and stir it up.. O M G!!!! I had it taken away and it was brought back twice with the same advice to put some ketchup in it and stir it up, if I don't like it. I wish they knew that the cucumbers are not limes. And that this dish should not look like few shrimp in a glass of urine. It should be red and should have strong flavors due to lime with cilantro, onions, and lots of tomatoes... Greeted with a smile, sat very quickly... I'm really not into being pleasant and talkative with the servers, but the lady was so nice, I actually put my phone away and chatted about menu items before making a decision for lunch. Worse Chile Relleno I've had in my life. The "Chile" had no actual shape and looked more like an omelet with two itty bitty pieces of green Chile that didn't even match in color... served drowning in a sea of cheese. The taste was of overly salted pure cheese and scrambled eggs, nothing like you would expect when you ask for 2 Chile Rellenos. This was a spur of the moment dinner to celebrate Father's Day on our way back from the coast. You see Big Daddy had a hankering for a margarita all afternoon so we ended up at this location in a strip mall along TV Highway. I didn't expect a lot, but it turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant meal. First and foremost, the service was above and beyond great from the moment we walked in the door to the time we left, followed moments later by our server running after us with the leftovers we'd forgotten. I see my fellow Yeeps have ripped the Portland and Cornelius locations a new one, but there were no issues here. Chips were crisp, warm and tasty and were served with salsa and warm bean dip, nice touch. We were constantly having our water glasses and chip baskets refilled until we begged, "no mas!" My house margarita on the rocks and El Jefe's 21-oz Killer Margarita (which he two fisted) were just fine. We enjoyed the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (prawns and sauteed vegetables) and Carnitas de Res (tenderloin sauteed with peppers and onions). The entrees were served sizzling hot on comically large 18" circular plates. The kids happily nibbled on tortillas and burgers. Oh how the mighty can fall. This was our go-to place for Mexican food on a weeknight - and that food still exists, but now they've ticked me off. I saw a guy eating soup at the next table. I looked at the menu, and saw they had two choices for soup - tortilla and some other kind, both of which I like. So I told the waiter when he came, that I would like to get the soup the guy at the next table had. There is a language barrier here. Well I ended up with a huge bowl of very very bad seafood soup. Seafood soup is NOT on the menu! The waiter should have told me that the guy next to me was not eating food off the menu! So I ended up with this horrible, rancid, awful soup with hunks of bad seafood in it. The scallop? BAD The crab leg? AMMONIA! Tasted. like. ammonia. The waiter came back later and asked how I liked it, and I had him smell it and he was like shrugging his shoulders and did not offer any recompense. I was charged an outrageous $15.00 for that soup. I'll never ever go back. Bad bad soup. Bad staff - and we knew our watier - we had him several times before! I know his NAME! And we STILL got treated like that! Finally! A good Mexican food resturaunt in the area. I should have checked Yelp! sooner. Friends had told me that there were no decent Mexican sit down resturaunts in the area. I beleived them. Until last Friday. My family and I were headed to Happy Panda and decided at the last minute to try Mazatlan. The interior is nice, bright and festive. The wait staff is attentive and wonderful with well behaved children. My husband loved his fajita burrito. My son's chicken quesadilla was delicious. The appetizer chips were crispy. They were served with a side of refried beans, an unexpected surprise. I had the ground beef taco and chile rellanos plate. It was OK. When we go back I will try something else. The prices were great too. We definately plan to add Mazatlan to our clutch of family date night restaurants. read more

I wish this was a 5 star review. Hell, I wish this was a 3 star review. As it is, it's barely 2 stars. Mazatlan is seriously convenient for my wife and I. It's less than a 5 minute drive from home. I'd been here before, years and years ago, and it was for lunch. I didn't remember anything about that visit, so it was worth the "risk" for us to skip an ordinary choice and venture out a bit. Wife is vegan and easy to please when it comes to Mexican food. She gets rice, whole beans, lettuce and corn tortillas. Every time. Therefore, unless a restaurant is really off it's game, she will be happy. Me, not so much. For me, the test of a Mexican restaurant is either Tacos al Carbon or Carne Asada. I chose to test Mazatlan with Tacos al Carbon. It was very, very bad. A warning flag was immediately sent when our food came out at MOST five minutes after ordering it. I was, quite frankly, shocked at how quickly it arrived. I just couldn't believe anything that came out that quickly could be worth a hoot. I was right. The steak was terrible. Barely warm, no seasoning and seemingly microwaved. When I say no seasoning, I mean none. Zero. Zilch. It was chewy, as bland as you could possibly imagine and just... gray pieces of meat. I could only finish 2 of the 3 tacos. Refried beans were fine, as was the rice. The chips, salsa and bean dip are nice touches and were also fine. Service was excellent. Best margaritas in town! At least that's what the website says and when we told our waitress that we came here for the best margarita in town....she did look at us a bit skeptically and said, "Where'd you hear that?" There are a lot of different kinds of margaritas and other cocktails. There are different sizes, the 16oz is plenty. They even have that cocktail in a bowl if you're into that. This restaurant is located in a strip mall between a bar/suburban night club and a Chinese restaurant. The interior is your typical tacky Mexican-American restaurant. There is no bar but there are a couple of TVs around the place if you want to watch something (the Blazer game for us that night) and enjoy a margarita with their complimentary chips and salsa and bean dip. I really like the salsa. It's spicy hot and I like it that way. I am sure if you asked for mild, they would have it available. The bean dip is a nice contrast to the heat. We ordered the special that night which was the pork carnitas. We ordered one to split between the both of us and it was a good thing we did because the servings were plentiful. Lots of meat, beans, and rice. I liked everything although the carnitas were a little on the dry side for me but that's personal preference. All in all, it was a good evening. I don't know if I would say that I had the best margarita in town.....wait.....yeah, It is the best margarita I've had in Aloha so the statement is true. I like all of the area's Mazatlan restaurants; this one is my favorite. The lunch specials are hard to beat - good food at a great price. The staff at this store is ultra-attentive, even more so than the usual high-quality Mazatlan service in general. When I eat here I don't feel like a customer, I feel like a guest. Even if the food was marginal (and yet it's great), I'd come for the cheerful service alone. I'll give the other Mazatlan stores a 4/5, but this store gets a 5/5. read more

My worst experience in a long time for a waitress. The waitress Claudia (taken from my receipt) was the least friendly waitress I have seen in a very long time. She walked right up to the table, and asked what we wanted to drink. No hello, how are you, or anything. She wasn't even smiling the whole time I saw her working while we were there. It was like she was working all pissed off or something. The other waitresses that came by to refill our drinks, chips, salsa etc were actually much friendlier, and at least were smiling. She brought our drinks, but was just as unpleasant when it came to ordering. No friendliness or anything just an abrupt You ready to order? It just seemed very odd. I ordered the top shelf Margarita for a drink, and it just tasted like a cheap watered down Margarita. A waste of $11.50. I did enjoy the chips. They seemed thicker than normal Mexican free chips and salsa chips. They had a good taste, and we did end up getting a second basket of them. My burrito was okay. It was nothing that would bring me back to this place. The guacamole was very bland. This was the icing on the cake. The waitress brings us our bill, and puts two peppermint candies with it. Once we place the card on the tray she comes to pick it up, and asks if we wanted the candies? We both said no, and I can only assume they reuse them. Mazatlan is a Mexican chain all over the state of Oregon, but this particular location on TV Highway is my favorite and still one of the best Mexican restaurants you can find. I used to go here all the time as a teenager and still drop in occasionally. Sergio (the owner) is a friend of my family and it's great to chat with him whenever he happens to be there. The food is very good value and is delicious with large portions, and the chips and salsa are the best I've ever had. I don't know what they put in that salsa, but it's hot and has fantastic kick to it. I've been hit-or-missing all over with the Mazatlan chain, but the one in Hillsboro rocks and has for years.
