We popped in here on a rainy Wednesday night without a reservation and was pleasantly surprised that they were able to seat us right away. Beautiful restaurant with some white tablecloths, gorgeous white booths, and a gorgeous bar. Our amazing server was Luis, and he had the perfect timing for drinks, bread, entrees and dessert. We had the saganaki to start - was bummed there was no flame and served on its own (no pita) - but it was still good. Cesar salad was excellent -- not overly dressed, fresh and crisp. We came for a friends birthday so we were a group of 9. We called and they were easily able to book us on a Thursday night. Their menu has a wide range from kebobs to pastas and seafood. I ordered the pappardelle with mushrooms which was delicious! I loved the sauce. Some other dishes that were ordered were the Mediterranean Sea bass, seafood pasta, lamb burger, chicken kebobs and New York strip. No complaints for any of the food, all delicious! There were only a few people here and service was a little slow. For an upscale restaurant I had to ask for a water refill. Overall - food was good and fresh. While in DC on a business trip (super fancy, I know), my coworker and I stopped into Mazi for lunch. It was a quick walk from our hotel and we were on the hunt for outdoor seating to enjoy some aperol spritzes on the surprisingly perfect DC summer day. We found all that and more at Mazi! The inside is really beautifully decorated so I imagine it could be a nice spot for a classy dinner. Outside is nothing too special but we enjoyed the patio nonetheless. We ordered the brussel sprouts, the fried feta cheese, and the garden salad topped with salmon and of course, a few aperol spritzes. Our favorites by far were the brussel sprouts and the feta cheese. The brussel sprouts were on the heavier side, pretty thoroughly fried with a side of rich aioli sauce but delicious enough to split between two people. We were both blown away by the unique fried feta dish. It featured a block of feta cheese wrapped in a flaky fried pastry topped with honey and sesame seeds. It was amazing! As good as the apps were, the salad left a little to be desired. The salmon was a bit tough and the dressing a bit flavorless. Something just felt like it was missing? We were pleased with the sizes of the aperol spritzes though and I believe they came out to be about $12-$15 each (if I'm remembering correctly), so fairly typical cocktail prices for DC. All in all, Mazi was pretty delicious. I'd probably return if I'm ever nearby again for some apps and cocktails but maybe skip the salad next time around. read more

Saganaki This is the only appetizer you should get. It was the show stopper. Warm and the cheese was the perfect amount of salt to the lemon squeezed on top. The arugula served with it gave it the perfect flavor bitter to each bite. Nice touch on dredging the lemon in spice. Halloumi Cheese Bruschetta The flavors were good, I see what they were trying to accomplish. Barely any vinegar so the acid was missing, the tomatoes were a bit mushy. The grilled cheese was delicious! The bread was a good texture. I'm not sure if the cheese was grilled and served or microwaved to warm it back up? I say microwaved only because the cheese didn't hold heat at all. Room temperature like. So I wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a warm or cold dish. Good overall. Crispy Brussels Sprouts I'm a Brussel sprouts snob and these did not make the mark. Again missing the vinaigrette drizzle that was listed on the menu and really lacked in flavor. Some of the Brussel sprouts were uncooked. These got cold really fast, which makes me wonder if these too were just reheated? Just okay. Lamb chops For the price I expected them to be really tender and flavorful before dipping into the sauce provided. Generous portion, which was appreciated. The lemon dredged in spice was a nice touch. The carrots were a bit under cooked. These were just okay, without the Demi glaze it would've been really bland. Peanut butter mousse cake I love the idea of this delivery did not satisfy. The cake was dry, and the mousse did not have enough peanut butter flavor. Perhaps it's because it was still very cold when receive, had it been left out to reach room temperature (take the chill out) I think the flavors would have come alive. Greek semolina This was amazing!! Perfect custard texture on the inside. Phyllo dough outside was perfect. The honey drizzled on top gave it a hint of sweet. This fed my soul! Came here on a whim after reading a few reviews and I have to say I was very impressed. The ambiance was very nice and the service was great. I enjoyed two appetizers with friends. The calamari and the brussel sprouts were delicious. I got the seafood pasta as my main dish and it was so scrumptious and flavorful. I really enjoyed it so much I wish I didn't eat it all so I could have taken some home and had the rest for lunch tomorrow lol. My two friends got steaks but they dug is so fast I didn't get to take a picture lol they both cleaned their plates so clearly they enjoyed their dishes as well. While in DC, I was looking for something different for dinner, no too upscale, not too casual. A fan of Med dishes and reading reviews, we reserved a table for 6pm as it was about half a mile from our hotel. Had drinks at the Parlour Victoria before dinner (highly recommend...top notch Happy Hour!). Place was hoppin' for a Monday night. Lively décor, more upscale than casual. Seated right away, our server took our drink menu (pretty extensive, especially their craft cocktails). Tried their Black Manhattan with Buffalo Trace...very tasty! As others have stated, their menu is really all over the map, not really exclusive Med dishes. Buy hey, variety is good! As we weren't starving, we decided to split 2 dishes. Not usually one to have a burger for dinner, I noticed the lamb burger. I've always enjoyed a good lamb burger, but few places serve it in our home town. Ordered that... downside, they won't let you order anything less cooked than medium (I like mine medium rare). Oh well. Also ordered the Med Salad with chicken and creamy cucumber dressing. Burger came out as advertised, thick, juicy...topped with arugula, tomato and a delish relish made with feta, mint and caramelized onions. The flavors really worked well together. The salad was decent, perfect for splitting, dressing on the side to avoid swimming in it. All in all a decent dining experience. Nice vibe, great service and a good value for the location. We stopped by at this restaurant on a Saturday night after making a reservation a few days before, and were sat immediately we arrived. The inside is so cute and there is limited seating, so definitely make a reservation if you can. We started with the crispy cauliflower and crispy pork belly appetizers, which were very well seasoned. I also placed an order of their seasonal cocktail which tasted fruity and refreshing. My main dish was the salmon, which can with basmati rice and some vegetables. The salmon was very well cooked and well complemented by the rice and a light sauce that was also served on the side. I also tried the seafood pasta, which came with a nice mix of mussels, shrimps, and scallops in a light sauce. The staff was so lovely and patient with us, even after a few members of our party were a little late. Note that a 20% gratuity may be automatically added to your bill (parties of 6 or more), but we had no problem with this since our service was excellent. We met a friend for dinner the other night at Mazi because, the last time we went there, we all LOVED the food and the service so much that we wanted to re-create that fantastic experience! Mazi did not disappoint us this time! We started out with Saganaki and fried shrimp for appetizers. The Saganaki was perfectly fried and had a crispy crunch to it. The lemon wedge was a great addition to the dish. Well done! I did not have any shrimp because I devoured the Saganaki but the others I was with ate all the HUGE shrimp with smiles on their faces. For our main courses, two of us got the mushroom pappardelle and the third person got a Caesar Salad with shrimp. The pappardelle was to die for!!! I was going to eat only half of it and take the rest home but, of course, that did not happen because it was so good. I scarfed the entire dish down in one seating. It was so creamy, so savory and so full of mushrooms!!! Well done! For dessert, we had the molten chocolate cake and the galaktoboureko. Both were excellent of course! The custard inside the galaktoboureko was perfectly prepared as it was last time I had it!!! Our server, Katarina, was fantastic! So well spoken, so helpful, so knowledgeable about the menu and the food. I felt like she was an old friend by the end of our dinner! I would hire Katarina away from this restaurant if I thought she would leave. What a great representative for the restaurant she is! If you have not been to Mazi, you should go! Went here for a Valentine's lunch and was not disappointed. It was surprisingly pretty empty, but service was excellent and the ambiance quite pleasant. The menu is an interesting mix of Italian and Greek fare. I went with pork souvlaki for my entree- the pork was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the vegetable skewers were excellent, especially the mushrooms. I don't even think 1 star is the appropriate rating for our experience. We went on Valentine's Day so they had a fixed menu which looked and sounded good but it was anything but that. We had high hopes considering all of the amazing reviews and ratings for this place but we were extremely disappointed. First, the bruschetta was truly inedible. I was not a fan of the grilled halloumi which tasted like rubbery, burnt cheese. The bread was burnt and the tomato's did not taste fresh. I didn't think anyone could mess up bruschetta. The filet also had a very strange flavor and was very chewy. I ordered medium and it was definitely medium well. My husband ordered his medium rare and it was rare. It was supposed to come with "jumbo lump crabmeat" on the filet and it was practically nonexistent. I thought they forgot to put it on my plate that's how little of an amount they used. My son and I went here for dinner tonight. The restaurant is lovely with a variety of styles of seating and an extensive bar selection. We were seated in a booth near the back where there was a gas fireplace mounted in the wall. Service was excellent. I never emptied my water glass or had to wait to order anything. The restaurant prints on the menu to make them aware of any dietary restrictions so they can accommodate them. Our server was very helpful with my restrictions. I ordered the mussels with white wine sauce, and they excluded the garlic from the sauce for me. The bread that is normally served with it was presented on the side for my son to enjoy (wheat is also a problem for me). My son ordered the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the pork souvlaki. The pork was well seasoned, tender, and moist. The veggies served with it were fresh and cooked perfectly.
