I dined at The Greenhouse for a weekday business lunch. The ambiance and decor are top tier--it's just gorgeous and lived up to its name. Also conveniently located downtown inside The Jefferson hotel. The service was also excellent. Now the food. The burrata appetizer was good, as was the bread service. But my entree--while absolutely beautiful--tasted incredibly bland bordering on unpleasant. I ordered the potato dumplings, and being a tad confused by the description I questioned the server on whether that was simply gnocchi. I did not get a clear answer, as he simply repeated the name of the dish. I took a risk and ordered it anyway. It was not, indeed, gnocchi, but rather actual dumplings stuffed with purple potato. So the description had been apt, I had just never seen something like it before. It was plated in a way that was absolutely stunning--literally, my table gasped when it came out. But... I didn't really like it, and certainly wouldn't order it again. We ordered two desserts, both of which were delicious and large in portion size (which is good, given their price). Like everything else, their appearances were especially appealing. I think I would come back and order a different entree. I was thrown off because the menu did not match what was available online (one of my restaurant pet peeves). I would also love to come back and try brunch.

Visited the Greenhouse restaurant for breakfast during our visit to DC over Memorial Day weekend. The restaurant is located inside the beautiful Jefferson Hotel, and the entire property is absolutely stunning. The interior features black-and-white checkered floors, large crystal chandeliers, and dark grey curtains. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant's atmosphere of relaxed luxury. The service staff were very friendly and welcoming. We began our meal with a couple of lattes, which were excellent. I loved that they served their hot drinks in grey-painted china. I opted for the avocado toast and the French toast--both were beautifully plated and truly delicious. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an elegant dining experience.

I came here with my partner for our anniversary on a Friday night. The atmosphere is definitely fancy, and there were plenty of waiters and staff on hand catering to the guests. We ordered two entrees a la carte (~$50 each), but they also had a 4 course meal available for $100/person as well. Before the entrees came out we were served bread with butter/salt/oil as well as a fried cheese ball. The bread was warm and had just the right soft and chewy texture. I think they noticed how much I loved it as they served us a second helping before our entrees came out. The entrees were okay. We got the lamb and the coq au vin. The lamb was definitely better -- perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium. The chicken was okay but I wasn't a fan of the wine sauce. Each came with some veggies which were cooked well. The oyster mushrooms on the chicken dish were a highlight. On the way out one of the waiters gave me some extra bread and a chocolate boxed up. Excellent and attentive service!! We will come back again next year. :)

The cutest spot for brunch with the girls! - the ambiance of Greenhouse is classic and upscale, a small but solid menu. I got the chocolate chip banana pancakes, soft and sweet! I also added the chicken sausages on the side. I really loved that they offered multiple protein options as sides. Service was quick and efficient. My favorite part was the little stool for my bag! Overall great option, would come back to try another menu/time.

This place is so cute! It'd be a perfect venue to host a bridal shower or intimate event. The service is incredible, the plates and silverware were fancy and the food was divine. The Jefferson Eggs Benedict: 9/10. I don't like runny eggs and they accommodated me with hard eggs. The hollandise sauce was a light foam rather than a sauce which was kind of weird but overall tasted good. Make sure to add pepper! Fresh Berry French Toast: 9/10. Not too sweet, light and fluffy. Chicken sausage: 6/10. Nothing special. I added syrup to mine. Toast for the table: 10/10. The sourdough was lightly toasted but still squishy. The assortment of jams were all great!

The entry into the restaurant. Gorgeous.

I was not expecting to stumble across this elegant gem of a restaurant this morning, but I'm glad I did! The service is beyond. The physical space is gorgeous. And the food -- exquisite. Not inexpensive, but an experience!

To celebrate our incredible ten years of marriage, my wife and I decided on the Jefferson. We had initially looked at doing our wedding reception here but ultimately chose another venue. So it was time to revisit this place for our Tin anniversary. Our first stop was at the Quill for cocktails, and then we moved over to the Greenhouse for dinner. Our server was from Jamaica and was excellent. He took care of our gluten-free needs. We had a charcuterie board with 24-month Prosciutto for a fantastic appetizer. My wife had the short ribs, and I had the filet mignon for the main course. Again just perfect. For dessert, I had a chocolate mouse, and my wife cheated on the gluten with a cheesecake. The wine and dessert wine suggestions were spot on. It was a great memorable evening celebrating an extraordinary decade of wedded bliss.

Beautiful location. I wandered in here by accident and decided to stay for the delicious food. I sat at the bar and the staff were so kind and accommodating. I will definitely be returning.

The main attraction to the Greenhouse is definitely the ambience. This place is beautiful. Perfect for a brunch date (I recommend in front of the fireplace or in the small green room). The waiters were polite, dressed very professional that added to the overall feel. We ordered the fresh berry French toast, 3 egg omelette and fresh mixed berries. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but honestly the omelette didn't have a lot of flavor and the french toast was just good. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and I definitely recommend for an impressive date.

Terrific service, atmosphere, and food. We were staying at the hotel and came down for breakfast. While a little pricy, the coffees were both delicious. The food was also excellent and meticulously presented. We really enjoyed our time here and look forward to coming back!

A great experience in modest fine dining. One of the best meals I've had in DC! The setting beautiful, staff is formal, and food is extremely refined, yet while this is clearly a fine dining restaurant, there are no frills about it. Everything we ate was delicious and thoughtful. Each component of each dish had a purpose and added to the overall quality of the plate. The crab and corn soufflé, while I don't think I would call it a soufflé, was rich in corn and crab flavor, had varying textures of softness on the inside and a crunchy brûlée-like top, and was so tasty you couldn't help clearing your bowl. The duck and endives were perfectly cooked and had an incredible sauce that elevated the dish to another level. Our dessert, a pear crumble, played with various textural components and highly contrasting and classic flavors that all came together perfectly. Overall, I loved coming here and will definitely return. This is a place for special occasions! What a great experience!

Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried. The Cheeseburger Americain was a standard 3.5 out of 5 American cheeseburger that beats the average suburban chain restaurant burger with its double patty and sesame bun, but isn't gonna knock your socks off like a steakhouse burger. The poutine kept my socks on too (I was particularly excited about the poutine and ended up a tad underwhelmed). The biggest disappointment was the mozzarella sticks, which...... I'll just get to in the service part. Cocktails were mid. All interesting concepts, but most missed the mark. the Polar Express was a little too sweet, I forgot what the name of the riff on an old fashioned or Manhattan I had but that was okay, and the Fleur de Citron tasted like when you ask for a Sprite and they ask, "Is Sierra Mist (now Starry) okay?" and you reply, "yeah that's fine," but then what you get is actually a flat 7-Up. Skip to the Assessment/Plan if you don't want to read this novella retelling of our evening. Service - Relatively early for the dinner service, we were the largest and one of only a few tables in the restaurant. I counted 3 other tables seated (small parties of less than 4 each) and a few patrons at the bar. It took about 20 minutes before we first got our menus and the guy who handed them to us didn't say a word just dropped them off. Then it took another 20 minutes before he came back to get our drink orders, and 1) seemed like he was having a bad day, which... fine, but 2) was rolling his eyes when some of us were a little between some options and wanted a recommendation, which... alright my guy let's chill. We weren't talking loud, we weren't drinking before and being obnoxious, we just wanted to ask about what some of the drinks were like on a very cool menu of cocktails we haven't tried anywhere else. Upon returning with our drinks, he accidentally spilled a not insignificant amount on my friend sitting across from me, and while we reacted and started handing him extra napkins, he just glanced at him, finished giving out the drinks, and walked away. No "oops", "my bad", "oh let me get you some paper towels", nothing. So at this point, we're all staring at each other like "Did we do something? Do we smell?" Whatever, friend's birthday, we've been talking about this cabin weekend for several years and it's finally happening, let's just vibe. Now another 20 minutes went by and we were getting antsy because we wanted to order our food but it looked like there wasn't a lot of staff, and we didn't want to upset anyone by hurrying them. Another man came over who we thought was going to take our orders. Nope. He starts picking up our menus so I say, "Oh, hey we haven't ordered yet." To which he replies, "OK, but I need the menus." Alright cool, yeah, that makes sense if he needed them for other tables and can leave us with a few to share. Nope. He just took them and placed them back at the host stand. Awkward stares across the table again. Whatever, we had enough, I guess. Tick tock, tick tock. A third guy came over, and when he smiled and asked, "Hi are you all ready to order?" I was like "Oh finally a human being!" Food took another 20-ish minutes while we nursed our drinks and really had no interest in ordering another round (not that anyone asked us). We ate. We chatted. We had an okay time. We were super ready to get out of there. Oh right, the mozz sticks. Le Mont'zarella sticks. They had one order left of four sticks for $18. We were one of the first diners. You can imagine after all the above, that's just a major facepalm emoji. Assessment/Plan: Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for Le Mont Royal to improve their service, now and at the hour of ASAP, because the place has so much potential, and maybe it was just an off night, or the staff just finished arguing with each other in the back so they took it out on us, but dearly beloved Lord it was like we offended nine generations of their ancestry from the moment we walked in. With "a 22% service charge has been added for your convenience," I thought we were getting Punk'd. The always-changing French-Canadian menu is a cool and unique concept, but it's a lot of bark with very little bite. It didn't make the disappointing service worth it.
