Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5…read moreAmbiance: 5/5 It was my first time in Tampa, and after hearing so many great things about this spot, my friends and I made it a point to eat here. When we first arrived, we honestly didn't expect a Michelin-starred restaurant to have this kind of setting- not in a bad way btw, just different from what we imagined! We went around 3 PM, and it wasn't too busy, so our group of three was seated immediately. They also have a back patio, but it was way too hot outside, so we opted to stay indoors with the AC. The service was excellent. Since it was our first time dining here, we spent quite a while looking through the menu. The staff were very patient, answered our questions, and gave some helpful recs. For food, I ordered the grouper sandwich because I saw that the fish was locally caught and was intrigued. It was a little saltier than I would have liked, but I still enjoyed it a lot. My friend got the grilled shrimp house salad and the pistachio crusted red snapper. The red snapper was WOW so delicious. The lemon beurre blanc balanced the dish perfectly. It was my friend's order, but I kept finding myself stealing bites from her plate lol. We also got a classic risotto with added shrimp and it was another standout. I really enjoyed it because it wasn't overly creamy, so I never got tired of eating it. I would definitely order this again. Okay, now onto the oysters... OMMGGGGGGGGG. The Shigoku from Samish Bay, WA was my absolute favorite out of all the oysters we tried. You honestly have to taste it yourself to understand how sweet it is. We also wanted to order more of the Royal Miyagi oysters, but unfortunately they had already run out and only had one left. So sad!!!! While waiting for our food, I walked around the market and loved browsing all the different items they had for sale. There were locally made souvenirs, sauces, honey, prepared foods, merchandise, and so much more. Definitely worth taking some time to explore if you're there. Overall, it was such a lovely experience, and I would absolutely come back whenever I'm in Tampa again!

The restaurant is located behind the German club on 66th Street, a second business in the German club parking lot! Apparently, the family that has his place is from Maine and they got a lot of success brewing beer. That's success led them to start the restaurant serving seafood from a family business in Maine. We started off with a bowl of New England clam chowder and a dozen oysters. To what are whistles we got a glass of their tap Chardonnay and a beer. My wife's Chardonnay was ridiculously good! But nothing could beat those oysters - sweet with a little bit of brine, and very fresh. For dinner we got a lobster roll - they come hot or cold, with the hot coming with melted butter. We also got the fried haddock roll.... Wow! Both were fantastic! I know we overdid it with dinner.... We even got an order of the whole belly clams. I didn't think anyone in Florida served those down here! Absolutely ridiculous . In short, we had fantastic dinner and terrific beverages. I really recommend you at least try to find the place - we almost didn't go in because of its awkward location and the fact that no cars were outside. We saw the place was open and decided to have a appetizer because the Yelp review was so strong, and I'm glad we did! I told the two people there they should park their cars nearby so patrons would see them..... Anyway, I'm going back again, but this time I'm bringing friends!

It came with french fries and coleslaw, and I enjoyed both sides. Even the tartar sauce was so good - I think it might be homemade? On the rare occasion that…read moreseafood was on the menu, it was typically a frozen variety like Groton's, or the occasional fish fry at the Elk's Club. That's changed since moving to the Gulf Coast of Florida, where the fish at the local restaurant today was probably swimming yesterday. My "go-to" seafood now is a grouper sandwich which I order blackened but NOT fried. I've sampled grouper sandwiches from many local dining establishments, but my favorite is from "Carvor's Fish House" A couple of important notes: 1) Carvor's is only open for LUNCH. Their hours vary, so you'll want to check the website, but they typically close at FIVE PM, with the last order accepted at FOUR PM. 2) Carvor's has NO inside dining The patio is tree-shaded with extra umbrellas but if it's really hot, you may be uncomfortable. 3) Carvor's has COUNTER SERVICE. You go inside, order your food and THEN go back outside and select a table. When your food is ready, a server will bring it to your table. 4) This is downtown Dunedin, and parking can occasionally be a challenge on Douglas Street, but FREE parking is available in the city parking garage across the street. Pictured is my "blackened grouper" sandwich. A refreshing change from the usual French fries is their homemade chilled tomato, cucumber and onion salad. Delish!

Casual! Whole fried snapper! Fried Wahoo! Local fish! Full menu, full bar…read more Hookin' Aint Easy Seafood Company is a cool house converted into a fish market and patio with a food truck and a bar with chairs with backs. There's plenty of umbrellaed tables and picnic tables. They have a full menu of apps, seafood, and burgers. Their whole fried snapper is one of our favorite fish, and Hookin' serves a generous serving, perfectly tender and sweet, in a light crispy layer of coating, on a regular soft bun, with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Their Fried Wahoo is also well-prepared. We got fried, and it was tender and fresh. Both fish came with a heaping serving of hot crispy fries. You could also get either fish blackened, and you could add various veggies as sides. We ordered our food and also picked it up ourselves at the bar. Hookin' can get crowded, especially when they have a live musician, and parking can get pretty tight. It's just off I-275 at 22nd St, in St. Pete Fl east of Gulfport. They keep their social media pretty up-to-date, but we didn't track down a "regular" webpage.

I have never eaten blue crabs from the shell,…read moreand I love whole lobster, so I thought that deconstructing another type of crustacean would be fun. I got off the bus and walked across the street and into the parking lot. It was fairly busy, and I made my way to the patio area, because outside seating only. There was a kind of tiki bar with a line where you go up and get your own alcoholic beverage any time you want. You can eat at the bar or at any of the picnic tables that you pass on the way to a kind of food truck with a window where you order your food and buy bottles of soda and iced tea from a vat full of ice. I loved the vibes right away. I got in line at the "truck". Then it was my turn to order. Well, whaddaya know, they just ran out of blue crabs! And no soft-shell crabs were available as the water they live in is not warm enough yet. But they did have one of my favorite seafood delicacies, stone crab claws, so I ordered those instead, and asked for the mustard sauce instead of melted butter. I also ordered French fries and cole slaw for my sides. And then I ordered one-half dozen raw oysters, because. I was given a little wire stand with a card inserted into the top with my order number on it, to be placed on my table. Then I sauntered over to the bar and ordered an IPA from the busy, bearded and well-tattooed bartender. If you are wearing shades you will be admonished to remove them before paying, and I saw why, as the display on the... pay thingy has excessive polarization. Next I found a good spot in the shade and sipped my beer and checked the place out. Was there music? I think so, but I can't remember! Just all kinds of folks having a good time. Two preschoolers were busily playing in the sand by the main walkway to the food line, and took up most of the path most of the time, but nobody seemed to mind. If you aren't into playing with little trucks in the sand I think there is also corn hole off in one corner. If you don't know what that is, I dare you to look it up. After not too long some plates of food showed up, and I took some pictures and then got busy. First I tried the fries, because they are best when fresh and hot, but the fries were limp and sad. I just let their little ol' hand-cut selves alone. The oysters were served on the half shell on ice, and came with nice hot grated horseradish and cocktail sauce, plenty of lemon wedges, and saltine crackers. They were excellent! Then I turned my attention to the claws, glorious stone crab claws. I noticed that I was given butter instead of mustard sauce. That didn't stop me. But what did slow me down was the lack of a claw-cracker. The claws were pre-cracked a bit, but not in a way that was helpful to get at the meat. And I need leverage to rip the joints apart as my fingers don't work like they used to, so I asked for, and received quickly, a cracker. Some of the claws were on the small side, and the meat in some of the claws was a bit soft-feeling, but it was all pretty tasty. However, they fell short of my previous experiences elsewhere, including when I cooked some at home a few years ago. The cole slaw was very good. The young guy who brought my food and cracker tool was friendly, and quite funny. The woman who took my order was also nice. The bartender was just to busy to be anything but awesome. So all in all, the food was a bit of a letdown. I will try to go back for the crabs, and I saw hush puppies in a photo, that would be better than the fries.

We ordered the grilled oysters and those were delicious. A couple little loaves of bread and olive oil with tasty herbs were brought with our appetizer and it was really wonderful and fresh. Both of us ordered a cup of the lobster bisque, but I didn't care for it as it tasted more like artificial crab than it did lobster. I sent it back and got the mixed salad. I ordered the swordfish entree and it was really wonderful. After dinner, hubby and I split a slice of key lime pie which was really good but not great. Service was awkward as our server was a little inattentive and it delayed our evening longer. So overall the food was really good (bad lobster bisque) but service was lacking. I'd try it again if we are in the area, as not every server is the same.
