I was running errands, had no dinner plans, and found myself outside Smiley Thai shortly before they closed. I entered and made sure to ask if it was OK to place a To-Go order right before closing. They were very kind and gracious, and said it was just fine. I made sure to tip them well. I ordered chicken pad Thai and chicken with amazing peanut sauce. Both were excellent, as good as and maybe even better than my previous Thai favorite. We were out running errands one night and decided to get one of our favorites, Thai, and wanted to try a new place to us. We were near Smiley pie to go and it had wonderful ratings on yelp so we rolled the dice. The restaurant sits in a strip mall, but don't let that dissuade you. We entered the restaurant, you order at the counter if you are getting a to go order. We were eating in so we were told we could sit anywhere. The restaurant was fairly empty, but they apparently do a brisk walk up and take away business. We saw a number of people getting their orders the entire time we waited. At any new time place, we stick to the traditional dishes since they are a good gauge of the quality of the kitchen. Consequently, we ordered the summer rolls, Tom, Kai Gai and pad Thai. The service was friendly and quick. The Tom guy was nice and creamy and not overly sweet and had a nice lemon grass flavor. In fact, big chunks of lemon grass were in the bowl. Obviously the soup is made from scratch. The summer rolls were good and a nice size. The pad Thai was also very good and very filling for the both of us. I have been a regular at Smiley Thai for about a year now and I wanted to finally share my experience with the food. Overall, the drunken noodles are delicious, the orders are always delivered hot and reasonably portioned. One thing I don't understand is why specifically the Pad See You seems to taste like it has been cooked in a pot that hasn't been washed enough. The taste is distinctively stale and it is ALWAYS just that order... It is disappointing to not be able to order this dish and only this dish because of the pot/utensils/etc that are being used. I don't expect everything washed from every order, but I do think the taste is very obvious. Fresh noodles don't taste that way. I hope that my constructive criticism will be received well because I truly am concerned about why that has been the case for this long. I am very sensitive to this taste and would like to hear back from management on this as I do order here frequently. Otherwise, the food is consistent and the Thai teas are good. read more

I have missed living in the area and when my food was delivered it was like I'm really home. Very tasty ginger dish with just the right amount of flavor and the different flavors as they should be with every bite. Anyone who has read one of my reviews knows I include pictures but I must apologize. It smelled so good I completely forgot that I might post this and after about 8 minutes the To go containers were empty. My only suggestion to them is to tell their delivery driver to ring the bell and hand it to the customer. He set it on a table and left . I could not catch him he was gone so quickly. My wife ordered and paid over the internet and she doesn't tip like I do ( I delivered food as a kid) , I wanted to add to it but he was gone. My boyfriend and I come here when we are in the mood for pad Thai. And we have never been disappointed! And we have been here at least 4-5 times the past few months. This is the first time I managed to take a picture of my food before it got scarfed down. This was also the first time I tried a bowl of Thai soup. You get massive portions. I usually at least get two to three meals out of one plate of food. And it costs $13 for the pad Thai plate. I usually get hot or Thai hot for the spice level. It definitely cleans your sinuses out if you are having issues with that. But I'm not complaining I regularly have issues with congestion. All of the ingredients are fresh and you can definitely taste it too. I'm pretty sure it's probably gluten/ wheat free, (but i don't know 100% if it is), I have issues digesting wheat products and I've never had a reaction with these meals. The Tom yum soup is amazing. I've never had this kind of soup before or any Thai soup before and I don't regret getting it. It's also a massive portion. All of the ingredients in this soup are fresh as well and it did not disappoint. It's a hot and sour soup. I looked up information on this type of soup online and it looks exactly like the way it's made Thailand! Which I thought was awesome . I decided to go back for another chance. The day I went for lunch there were about three other tables and a few take-out​ orders and one very nice young woman working the counter and waiting tables. She took my order and brought​ silverware and a glass of water to the table where I sat down​. My food came up pretty quickly​- The Tom Yum Soup ($4.95) was a nice sized bowl with nice slices of button mushroom, green onion, ​and some greens, there were plenty of moist slices of chicken in the broth and the coconut broth was perfectly spiced​ with lemongrass with a little spice. I also tried the Curry Puff ($5.95) - a fried wonton type triangle stuffed with chicken, potato, onion, ​and curry powder. Kind of light on the flavor, I guess I expected more of a curry bite to it. The wontons were a little dark/overcooked​ but it was a nice crispy bite and the cucumber salad was delicious. And the ​last bite was the Steamed Dumplings ($5.95) a mixture of marinated pork and shrimp in a light, steamed dumpling. About 5 pieces with a nice fragrant dipping sauce. It was tasty... After much deliberation...translation - I got what I get at every Thai spot I visit for the first time...and every time after that....which is Tom Yum Soup and a Yum Beef Salad. Tom Yum Shrimp (Spice Level - Hot) $3.95 The Tom Yum Shrimp Soup came out of the kitchen in no time and was immediately followed by the always welcome spice tray. The soup contained two shrimps, Thai chilies, lemongrass, other veggies and some good spice. It was a good portion and I appreciated that there wasn't an up-charge for the seafood addition. Overall it was decent, made better by a good portion size and low price. Yum Beef Salad (Spice Level - Hot) $7.95 The Spicy Beef Salad arrived shortly after I had devoured my soup and contained lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cilantro and thin sliced beef. I have had this dish many.....many times, it is my death row/last meal request and I try it wherever I can. Suffice it to say this dish had a lot to live up to and it tried. The dish was spiced well and left that great tingle in my mouth and water in my eyes but overall was not game changing in the least. The most unique part was the amount of fresh red bell peppers that I thought were a good addition to the overall dish. Water Closets - 1/Single The small single restroom was located adjacent to the counter and was clean but lacked any special features or upgraded fixtures. The Pad-See-You was also very good. Flavorful but not too much sauce or over powering. This is my favorite Thai restaurant to go to when I'm in the Largo, St. Pete area. The title of their restaurant is Togo, but they also serve your every need if you decide to dine-in. I love to dine-in because with your order, they bring out complimentary appetizer of a fried spring roll and soup. The owners/workers there are really nice and they are very helpful with giving suggestions on what to order from the menu. My fave things to order here are the Pad Thai with shrimp, ALL of their curry dishes, and their fried rice. Their Pad Thai is soooo good! It has a true authentic Thai taste to it. Their shrimps are plump and not those little-wee shrimps. I LOVE IT! When I'm craving something with a coconut flavor, then I get the Green Curry. When I want something more spicy, I get the Red Curry. When ordering fried rice, I always choose the chicken option. You can choose the level of spiciness for any of the dishes here.
