The oxtail here is pretty good although it sucks that they don't just sell it by itself so you can have a bigger portion. It's very close to Brooklyn college if you go to school around here. Literally around the block.

This review is long overdue. McBeans is the only place I go to get food from on Flatbush junction. If I'm looking for just vegetables I'll go to bake n tings. I love their food and the owner is really nice. I recommend everyone I know to go here and they fall in love. I love their rice. Now when they were in the smaller spot they were fast as lightening. And the chicken was NEVER dry. I know they'll get to where they were again and I'm happy they expanded. Just got to have some patience.

The Oxtail is EVERYTHING. This place is so clean and the food is delicious. Don't walk, run to MCBeans!

I came here for the Oxtail and while it took 10 minutes to find parking, it was totally worth it! This restaurant has so many selections and they are all so delicious. My family was so pleased. I will definitely be returning! Don't walk, RUN to McBeans!!!!

Best damn curry goat in Brooklyn hands down. I've never tried anything else but there are regular customers that order their "usuals" me being one of them. The nice lady behind the counter is very patient and helpful, the food is always hot and fresh (cold drinks available....try the pineapple orange ginger), restaurant is always spotless. There are seats available but very limited and people tend to take the food to go anyway. Did I mention the staff is amazingly nice? This definitely adds to the overall experience of this amazing place with the reasonably priced food. *cash and credit*

I used to really love food at McBeans. But today when I went to do my take out thang, they wanted to give me whole bunch of rice and a very small portion of the main dish I ordered which was curry shrimp. There are more smile on the website than at the actual restaurant. Everyone was serving as if they were scared to give you some food. Cashier/Owner had a tight mean face on so I guess that's why all the servers were looking scared. No one looked happy about the food or happy about serving the food. The plates are a lot smaller now less getting a bunch of rice. I think im going to stay away from McBeans for a while, until they get it together. Like a nap, a snack and a smile. For now no thank you.

I love their oxtails but find that I seen to get more bone than meet sometimes. The Mac and cheese is good, but if you're a true connoisseur than you might not find it to be that great. The cabbage is always good and my favorite. HOWEVER, the sleeper dish here seems to be their cakes!!! They REALLY good!! Like a fat kid loves cake good!! The Key Lime and Carrot Cheese Cake are my favorites!!!

The jerk chicken is dried out and the macaroni salad has no flavor. I cannot understand why all of the high ratings.

"Deep in Brooklyn, hides the Caribbean"…read more Came here on sleepy Tuesday. Not many people in the restaurant but lots of take out going on. The friendly one woman staff helped seat us, recommend the dishes, made the drinks, prepped and served the food. It was all tasty. What's to cheer - Nice not to too sweet homemade rum punch - Solid, flavorful oxtail. Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

Service was excellent, we felt like we were visiting an old friend who happens to have a great restaurant. The food was delicious, we had the home made sorrel perfectly sweetened and the right amount of ginger. The oxtail with rice and peas with cabbage was on point. The meat was perfectly tender and the gravy was savory, the rice and peas was moist and delicious, the cabbage had a nice flavor and texture and the side of fry plantains were perfect, the right level of soft and sweet. Their playlist is great so vibes were on point. We all shared the lemon drop cocktail tower. It was super cute, tasty, fun, and did what it had to do for us pre-day party. For food, I tried the bao fish tacos and the crab curry gyoza. Both of these items were good but for the amount that comes with them it's pricy (you get 2 small bao tacos and 4 pieces of gyoza, both of which are $20-22 each). I liked the bao tacos the most because of the mixture of flavors and textures, including the excellently friend fish. The gyoza was different. It wasn't bad but I think I'm just used to crispy/fried gyoza vs these which were boiled/soft. My friends really enjoyed the crab fried rice. The fried sweet plantains were just ok to me; The batch we got were dry and not that sweet.

The couple who owns Kokomo deserve an award, if they don't have many already. The food is incredible. I've had both lunch and dinner. I can't say I have a favorite. But what stands out to me is: jerk chicken, mac and cheese, the lamb. Wait, my fave was the flatbread pizza with pasta and jerk chicken. My partner throughly enjoyed and raves about the oxtail. The mixed drinks were equally exceptional.

Upon arrival the restaurant is very clean, and the service was fast. There is a dine in area as well. The woman who took my order was very patient , and personable. I ordered a brown stew fish, cabbage and 3 small soups. Everything came out to about $49. The chicken soup was very good . The cabbage was also very good. The fish on the other hand was very salty and not worth the $20 charge (fish with no sides). I get it the area etc etc but for the price the food should be top notch. The other establishments are much better. Would I return.....I don't think so .

Escovitch fish meal which came with plantains, rice and peas, and spinach. Everything was still warm and tasty when I arrived home. The order was packaged nicely. Definitely, nice portions for the prices. Place is clean. Staff is friendly, informative, and service was amazing. It takes about 10 minutes for the fish since they make it to order. I will soon be back and may have them do some catering orders for me( usually order from the location on flatbush). Pop in if you ever get in the area and want some hot warming food.

For the table, we ordered the oxtail stew, fried chicken, yams, collard greens, and mac & cheese. I also had a Peach Bellini for a little bubbly. Everything was exactly as I remembered -perfectly cooked and well seasoned, large portions with more than enough to take home. The chef stopped by our table which was a nice touch. Service overall was great. They also make great use of such a small space. It is indeed well worth the visit. Side note, we ordered the same exact items off the menu as we did a year ago...only one thing was missing which was the biscuits with the flavored butter jam. We were told the biscuits were replaced with cornbread. I didn't order the cornbread this time around but would like to see the biscuits return at some point.
