    Corn bread
    Lulu T.

The fries and whitening were soggy due to the container not being aired out. The flavor was fine. The fries would've been great if they cooked more and crispy. Their tartar is so good. The cornbread wasn't good. Crumbled so much and the flavor wasn't anything special. I'd come here if I was going to eat the food fresh from the fryer.

Food is buns. Taste funny. Terrible portion for a 20 dollar meal. The chicken was a either a baby chicken or a pigeon (put a regular size fork next to chicken for scale)

First time ordering from mothers and this won't be my last. Food was excellent. The salmon was crispy and flaky. The mashed potatoes was soft and garlicky along with seasoned greens. I'm definitely looking forward to trying other items from Mother's.

If I could give zero stars I would. I ordered via Uber Eats. 1) the Turkey wings were pale and without color, the collards and yams were cold. 2) I also ordered inside of stemmed shrimp and rice. I got 3 WHOLE shrimp (WTH) but at least that food was hot. 3) the sauce from the yams spilled all through the packaging. I try to patronize smaller restaurants for support but when you get poor service and product it discourages you from trying in the future. This was a one and done for me!

First off.. walking in the staff isn't friendly at all. Nor helpful. They had a variety of food to choose from. Barely saw any seafood. Maybe two dishes with shrimp and a fish dish. Everything else was soul food. The portions that you are given for the price is insane. And then, if you want a small piece of cornbread they wanna charge you $1.75. Whaaatttt! Like I paid $18.75 for my meal. You can't top my meal off with a free small piece of cornbread! Dang. The prices for a spot like this are a bit too much. I've had way better soul food for $15 with lots more to eat and I get free cornbread at Taste of Heaven not too far a drive from this spot. They do have a lot of space for some tables for their customers to sit and eat but I don't think they want that extra work. Food wasn't bad. Yams were good. Turkey wings could've used a little more seasoning. Mashed potatoes weren't bad either. Just wish I had more in the meal. Overall 6/10. Won't come back tho.

Soooo good! The best soul food place by far. The consistency is amazing. It's always on point. No complaints here. 10/10 love the food. So affordable and I get it Everytime I come to NY.

I ordered delivery from this place because I was craving some seafood. I decided to get the fried catfish, along with fried shrimp and french fries. This meal came with any 2 sides. I chose the candy yams and fried plantains. I also selected corn bread to try. I expected the fried catfish to be battered and crispy, however it was only fried on a pan and still soft. At least the fish was tender and the seasoning was flavorful. I enjoyed the shrimp more, as they were nicely crunchy and juicy, as well as a decent size. The fries were pretty soggy, but had great potoato-y taste to it. The candy yams were yummy, with plenty of warm cinnamon-y spices throughout. The yams were also cooked perfectly. I also liked the corn bread, and was given a corner piece, which I prefer. It tasted of corn, and was delightfully moist and crumbly. However, I was not happy with the fried plantains, because I expected tostones, but got maduros, which weren't even good. They were on the bland side and kind of limp. I would not order from this restaurant again.

I went to Mothers because the restaurant I wanted to go to was closed and I was starving and I had limited time. I was pleasantly surprised. They must've changed the cook because the food was really good. I got the naked wings, greens, candied yams and fried whiting sandwich. I will return.

BBQ grilled Salmom with sweet potatoes and Steamed Broccoli

I stopped by on 2/921 . This grilled bbq salmon was the best. I could've just had the salmon without the sauce and it would've still tasted delicious. It was bursting with flavors and well seasoned. The fried rice was a bit salty for me. They have an array or seafood and non seafood. They are known for their crab legs which I'll try next time. Also that salmon was huge it was easily meant for two and their food is made to order fresh. So don't come hungry. My order took about 30 minutes or so to be ready.

So my sister was having a baby last week at the hospital a couple of blocks away. I was starving so I yelped the closest place and this place came up under suggestions. I have no idea why. I also don't know what reviews I read but honey. Do not eat here. I mean I really thought I won. But I was gravely mistaken. The servers were having a joke when I walked in and didn't switch off that button inside their head that says hey we have a customer. I hate it when a place makes you feel like an intruder like I'm happy to be here y'all got food I'm hungry! I just had to look past that bc I had already ordered over the phone. When I dined in they looked at me like good luck shorty. It was not the cleanest of places but I chose the solitary high bar table to sit at that was by the front door over eating in my car. Like 5 minutes in the smell of garbage coming from the street turned my stomach. The mac and cheese didn't have enough cheese was it the scraps from the bottom of the pan? It was hard and not cheesy (sadness). The yams was aight. And the chicken wings were from yesterday maybe this morning. The food was a 1/5. And the kitchen which you could see right behind the servers was a hot mess. I wished I had gotten Chinese food (instantly) but yeah maybe I'll save someone's tastebuds when they read this bc no.

Was craving seafood and southern food and S&M was the best choice. My husband and son call their food the happy food. Lol well, the food came and that's exactly what it was HAPPY FOOD!!! So, I order crab legs, scallops, bbq chicken that came with Mac and cheese and candy yam's. I also got a side order of collard greens and potato salad. Oh boy this was like an early thanksgiving feast. If you are in the Brooklyn area check them out. You can order for delivery or pick up your order. CHECK THEM OUT!!!

Jerk Chicken and 2 sides (Rice and Peas with Mac and Cheese)
    Yves A.

This is a great place for some soul/Caribbean food: when they say seafood and MORE, they mean it. Their menu pretty much has all of the essentials when it comes to entrees and sides which made it pretty exciting to order. The establishment is pretty small so it's not the best for busy days but it gets the job done. I ordered jerk chicken with Mac and cheese and rice and peas which comes up to around $15. The first thing that came to mind when I opened the tray was that this rice needed some sauce. I was hoping the chicken would be moist enough to resolve that concern, but it didn't carry enough juice to extend itself to more than one responsibility, which is understandable. As it was, the taste was pretty good. The jerk seasonings were potent but not overwhelming. The meat itself also had a nice texture: it made for a satisfying bite and it paired amazingly with the rice and peas. The rice and peas managed to hold its own without sauce, which is a bit impressive. It was able to hold whatever juice came from the chicken, so it made the meal everything it had to be. As far as the Mac and cheese goes, it certainly hit all the spots with flavor. The slight seasoning over the cheeses helped it to pair up really well with everything else in the meal. Overall, I think you can rely on Mother to open her arms up to you for some seafood and whatever else may be offered here. If you could chew maternal affection, I'm sure it would taste like what I had here.

It was sort of an odd time so the spacious restaurant wasn't very busy. We studied the menu for too long and after much deliberation, here's what we ordered, in order of spice level: - Oxtail ($35): Not spicy, super flavorful, "Trimmed and sliced chunks of oxtail seasoned freely with fresh spices and simmered to tender perfection." - Curry goat ($29): Mildly spicy, "Goat meat marinated and cooked in curry spices and herbs makes this an exotic dish." - Jerk chicken ($20): Apparently incredibly spicy so I steered clear of it, "A Jamaican delight. Spicy, delicious chicken baked with this unique combination of spices from the island." The dishes I could handle were excellent, with no drop of sauce left unmopped. On the sides front, the rice and beans, roti, steamed vegetables, and plantains were all tasty. The entree sizes were hearty. Our server seemed like a cool dude: easygoing with a sense of humor. It was kind of chilly in the restaurant, not sure if we were in a warmth dead zone or what. The bathroom was frog-themed which was a cute touch!

Very island spiced and cooked well - Goat was also really strong - Reasonable prices - service with personality What's to jeer - they were out of the jerk chicken unfortunately which I really wanted to try - place is pretty low key and not swimming with ambience

For something that expensive, there should absolutely be some indication of portion size, or at minimum the waiter should mention it when ordering. Avocado toast also isn't exactly something you can box up and save for later, so a lot of it just went to waste. Honestly, the menu feels arrogantly overpriced, what avocado toast dish is pushing $30? The only thing that seemed reasonably priced was the $35 bottomless brunch. Overall, the pricing felt excessive and the lack of transparency made the experience frustrating.

I'm Dominican so I know oxtail pretty well and have made it myself. Thankfully, this place absolutely delivered. The oxtail was perfectly slow-braised, tender, and falling right off the bone -- exactly how it should be. Absolutely amazing. Of course I had the rice and peas, plus some veggies. A few of the veggies were slightly overcooked, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The drinks looked incredible, but I went with the rum punch and loved it. It was a little sweet, but super flavorful, strong, and definitely worth ordering again. For dessert, I had the Hennessy cheesecake, which was rich, decadent, and unbelievably delicious. There were three of us dining, and we all left completely satisfied -- with take-home containers because the portions are VERY generous. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that our server seemed to focus most of her attention on my friend. She is Jamaican, and because I look like a white American woman, I felt a little overlooked at times, even when I had several requests myself. We also had to look for her a couple of times while she was sitting with a group nearby. That said, everyone overall was very nice and welcoming.
