If I could give less than one star I would. They completely butchered my order, to the point it looks like someone ate out of it. I ordered a pound of shrimp and champagne kola and they decided to give me only 6 pieces of shrimp and the wrong drink. I called the store and the person on the phone couldn't care less, directly me to show up in person. Which I would've if I could, hence why I ordered online in the first place. They clearly were in a rush and wanted to leave work ASAP. Regardless, they should've just cancelled my order instead of scamming me. Now I have to wait forever and a day for support on Uber eats to reach out to me and give me the refund for this pathetic excuse for a food order. Will definitely not be supporting this business any further. This place place is absolutely terrible if I could give this place a zero I would. I'm totally disgusted and I am sure this place would be closed within the next two years. I put in an order thru "Too Good to Go" and was flabbergasted by what they gave me. I will not even taste it. Dry a@@ baked chicken, string beans, hard lumpy rice. They didn't even put gravy on the rice. Wouldn't even feed this to my dog. This is worse than prison food. This place is not even worth visiting in the future. First off.. walking in the staff isn't friendly at all. Nor helpful. They had a variety of food to choose from. Barely saw any seafood. Maybe two dishes with shrimp and a fish dish. Everything else was soul food. The portions that you are given for the price is insane. And then, if you want a small piece of cornbread they wanna charge you $1.75. Whaaatttt! I chose the candy yams and fried plantains. I also selected corn bread to try. I expected the fried catfish to be battered and crispy, however it was only fried on a pan and still soft. At least the fish was tender and the seasoning was flavorful. I enjoyed the shrimp more, as they were nicely crunchy and juicy, as well as a decent size. The fries were pretty soggy, but had great potoato-y taste to it. The candy yams were yummy, with plenty of warm cinnamon-y spices throughout. The yams were also cooked perfectly. I also liked the corn bread, and was given a corner piece, which I prefer. It tasted of corn, and was delightfully moist and crumbly. However, I was not happy with the fried plantains, because I expected tostones, but got maduros, which weren't even good. They were on the bland side and kind of limp. This is a great place for some soul/Caribbean food: when they say seafood and MORE, they mean it. Their menu pretty much has all of the essentials when it comes to entrees and sides which made it pretty exciting to order. The establishment is pretty small so it's not the best for busy days but it gets the job done. I ordered jerk chicken with Mac and cheese and rice and peas which comes up to around $15. The first thing that came to mind when I opened the tray was that this rice needed some sauce. I was hoping the chicken would be moist enough to resolve that concern, but it didn't carry enough juice to extend itself to more than one responsibility, which is understandable. As it was, the taste was pretty good. The jerk seasonings were potent but not overwhelming. The meat itself also had a nice texture: it made for a satisfying bite and it paired amazingly with the rice and peas. The rice and peas managed to hold its own without sauce, which is a bit impressive. It was able to hold whatever juice came from the chicken, so it made the meal everything it had to be. As far as the Mac and cheese goes, it certainly hit all the spots with flavor. The slight seasoning over the cheeses helped it to pair up really well with everything else in the meal. Overall, I think you can rely on Mother to open her arms up to you for some seafood and whatever else may be offered here. SOLID southern-ish cuisine. I'm rarely blown away or surprised by food outside of my family or household (good cooks, I'm fortunate) but this was GOOD. It's not as good as the real thing but for it to even be this good is nothing short of incredible. I ordered fish, Mac and yams. The fish wasn't that great and pretty bland actually, so I had to dock a star. However, the Mac and yams are BOMB. The Mac is done like southern Mac and has plenty of flavor. The yams are sweet and spiced (like with cinnamon and five spice? Nutmeg? Not sure) which adds a different take on candy yams but a GREAT one. The textures were perfect! Nothing was soggy or mushy or worse......over cooked! Lol it was perfectly cooked. I also had the corn bread which was a little dry.........let's just not talk about it. I ordered fried whiting with collard greens and rice and peas, but the whiting tasted like it was sitting out for hours. It was dry, flavorless and the pieces were tiny. The order took a lot longer to come out than I expected, but the shrimps were really jumbo and coated in this amazing well seasoned batter. I wasn't a fan of the rice but it was something new and interesting to try. One recommendation/super pro tip is to order the fries here. The portion size for the fries are HUGE and the fries are really delicious too. Besides the food, the atmosphere and service here is ok. The layout of this restaurant is where seating is around the kitchen, so you can always see what the workers are doing. The wait time from ordering food to food being served was longer than expected (20-30 mins), considering we were the only people sitting in the restaurant. Upon entry it looks like the restaurant could use some decoration, it's just bland. However this isn't designed for designed for dining and I was there for the food. I ordered a 10 piece fried jumbo shrimp with fries. I got mine spicy and with seasoned fries. The shrimp was very tasty and delicious well seasoned, it wasn't too spicy. The fries was well seasoned as well. It could have been a little bit more crispy for my tastes however. This appears to be black owned business. My advice is they need to be more engaging to the customer's. "Thank you for your business"and a "Hi" goes a long way. I doubt I'll be back, but that's only because this location isn't near me. The food was good, this is spot is fo if you happened to be in the area. We ordered crab legs, shrimp & corn with fries on the side. Now, my only complaint is how long the food took too arrive, over 1 1/2 hours. The food came in a warm tray & was still hot and seasoned sooooo well! You could see the seasoning just seeping into all the corners of the crab legs. There was a beautiful layer of sauce coating the bottom of the tray that allowed for each bite to be as juicy as the last. The sauce a bit spicy for my liking but I kept it pushing because it was worth it. Normally i wouldn't order fries for delivery BUT these fries were crunchy upon arrival which was great. Seasoned really well too. I can't wait to order again, but keeping in mind the extra long wait time. I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
