Took the opportunity to take The Kid to lunch a few weeks back, and we decided to go to McAlister's Deli. In the spirit of full disclosure, The Kid works here a couple hours a week during school as part of a work studies program. That said, it has nothing to do with my review. I'd shied away from McAlister's for a long time, mainly because I thought it was too "Panera-ish" for my tastes. I'm a meat and potatoes kinda guy, not the foo-foo organic sprouts and field greens on a brioche bun sort. So, I had mistakenly lumped McAlister's into that slot, for reasons totally unknown to me. I do dumb stuff like that now and then. So, shortcut back to the topic... we arrived and placed our orders. The Kid went with the cheese pizza and chips, as is her usual when nachos and taco salads aren't available. For myself, I went with a sandwich with pastrami and corned beef. Can't recall the name, but that's the one, with a side of chips. The Kid had Dr Pepper (it's in her DNA, as with The Wife), and I decided to try the world famous McAlister's Sweet Tea. (Being a southern boy, iced tea is in MY DNA). The food arrived pretty quickly in spite of it being right in the middle of the lunch rush. The Kid's pizza looked suspiciously like a Red Baron personal pan pizza, but she liked it, so that works for me. At least it was priced appropriately for what it was. My sandwich was well done, with a generous amount of meat all around. Too many times I've seen sandwhich shops slap two wafer thin slips of meat and a half pound of lettuce on some bread and serve it, and that annoys the hell out of me. McAlister's did it right. Well toasted and decently sized, it was a good lunch-worthy sandwich. Gotta admit... I wasn't a fan of the sweet tea, it being a little overly sweet for my palate. But I can see where some folks would like it. And the people, every one of them, were great. Friendly and welcoming, from the GM, Katie (who stopped by to say hi to The Kid) down to the guy who brought our food. Now that I know the straight skinny, I plan on adding McAlister's to my lunchtime rotation options.

This location is always so fast when I do an online pickup. My orders are always ready in less than 10 mins. I hope they continue to be this fast. I ordered the Orange cranberry club. It has such a nice sweet sauce that balances the cheese and salt from the meat. I love it! It may look small when cut up like this, I promise you it's not. It's so plentiful. I always pair it with some chips and a half sweet/half unsweetened tea with lemon yum!! But this time, I ordered the mac and cheese so my toddler could enjoy it too. Definitely good Mac and cheese! Creamy and cheesy!!

Snowmagedon hit Owasso Oklahoma. Everything was closed except for McAlister's! This is a deli style restaurant where you order food, then find a seat and wait for someone to bring it to your table. The man taking our order said they were lucky to be open as other locations weren't able to. The dining room has tables marked unavailable in order to allow social distancing and masks are required. Once seated we only waited about 10 minutes for our food. We both got the choose two. Half a sandwich and a cup of soup. The sandwich was decent and had adequate toppings. The tortilla soup was the highlight. It was a perfect temperature and had a little bit of spice. This is restaurant is a great choice when you want something fast but not necessarily fast food.

There is a large selection of sub sandwiches to choose from. You can choose between 1/4 , 1/2 or full size sandwich. I usually choose the medium size. They put lots of meat on vegetables with a dill pickle spear. On this visit my wife ordered a medium prime steak sandwich with a bag of chips, I ordered the medium Firehouse hero with chips. My wife said her sandwich had a good flavor. But the meat was to tough to chew. I tried a piece of her steak and had to agree. My Hero sandwich was the good quality I am accustomed to from this establishment. While we were eating a employee came out to restock the chip counters. We were shocked to witness this person actually crushing the bags of chips in order to get as many as possible in the rack. I would have give 5 stars except for the tough meat and the crushed chips

It's a sad day when you experience too much ranch ( absolutely disgusting had to spit it out) after that I opened to find there was pretty much nothing on my sandwich. Sucks but whatever last time I'm tipping on a pick up order and I won't be going back here anytime soon. Also no pickle:/

So disappointing....I honestly cannot believe they sent a product out like this. I paid nearly $40 for these 3 sandwiches and this is what I received?!! As you can see by the photos, there is virtually no lettuce between the 3 sandwiches, one had none on it at all. The tomato was almost non existent as well...sliced (if it was present) so thin you couldn't taste it. And, when we unwrapped, the "sandwiches" (I have a hard time calling these sandwiches because they looked like whole bagels) there was so little on the sandwiches you couldn't tell they were sandwiches. AND none of the items were labeled so that we knew what they were supposed to be without unwrapping them. The thing that REALLY bugs me, besides feeling totally ripped off...is that this order was for 2:45 in the afternoon...not a busy time. Whoever put this order together was not busy, they just didn't care. The quality at this Owasso, OK location has really gone downhill, this is not the first time I have had issues here.

Sadly, in recent years, since the corporate buyout happened, Reasor's has steadily gone downhill. Their meat department seems to be hit the hardest. Rarely can you find decent cuts of meat, and the quality seems to have taken a hit. Their Red Bud farms products are prices much higher than other alternatives and the product isn't any better. Shelves are often only partially stocked, and their produce options have dwindled as well. Being the only real option in Owasso, the entire community is sort of hamstrung between shopping at one of the two locations, or making a trip to Tulsa. I've started spreading things out a bit and offloading a lot of purchases at the new Costco, simply because the meat is better and less expensive. For a really nice quality meat purchase, I'll go to the local BB Meats butcher shop, and if I really want fresh quality produce, I'll hit up Sprouts. I hate that I have to do this because my time is fairly valuable to me, and I hate having to make shopping that much more intrusive on my schedule, but it is what it is. I really wish some other grocery outlet could come in and undercut/oversell Reasor's because I think they've gotten VERY complacent over the last several years. Some new competition would be good for the community overall. I'm leaving this a 3 star review, only because I can't do 2.5 stars, and 2 is just a little low.

If you take the time to cultivate relationships, it can make your experience an even better one. Since I work from home, sometimes I'll do the shopping over lunch, so over the years I've gotten to know several of the front end clerks fairly well, like Sheila and Suzy. We always share a laugh while they're ringing me up. Try and get that at WalMart. Also, Armando in the butcher shop always had a good story to tell, and can always answer any questions I have about cuts of meat and such. We've even been known to trade recipes, so how cool is that? Product selection is always plentiful and quality is usually good. I do have some issues with some of their meat products, specifically pork and chicken, as they seem to spoil pretty quickly if you don't use them within a couple of days. I've bought similar meats at other places and it always seems the shelf life is noticeably longer than Reasor's. Also, another thing that I seriously detest is the addition of the self checkout lanes at the expense of both attended lanes and the express lanes. It really irritates me to see elderly people who only need to purchase a few items being forced to wait in long lines while a Reasor's employee stands by the self check gadgets twiddling his thumbs. I get it, I understand it, but it looks bad. And it just seems one step closer to WalMart. I always appreciated that Reasor's delivered an overall better experience than WM, but a few things of late leave me wondering.
