Saw the great reviews so I tried a Reuben sandwich with the tomato and cucumber salad and a pickle spear. The corned beef serving was reasonable. I had ordered extra Swiss cheese, and it looked like there there was only 1/32 inch of cheese on the sandwich. There was about 3/8 inch of sour kraut on the sandwich, which is ridiculous. The cucumber tomato salad was 80% large half rings of red onion. It really should be called onion salad. My pickle spear was old, to the point where the seed part was dried and completely shriveled up...borderline a food safety issue. The very courteous and nice front counter lady asked me if evething was fantastic. I said I was disappointed and she grapped the "Manager". He said "Well, you ate it all". I said, I am not asking for anything from your corporation. I just won't be back, and he said: "We don't get any complaints about our reuben." Then, he just walked away. The nice lady who took my order brought me a cookie, which was good. I guess the McAllisters Manager figures he has enough college customers that he doesn't need my Boomer business, or my friends, or company's. read more

With sandwiches being one of my favorite foods I was super excited to finally try this place. From the outside looking in this place looked really good so I figured why not give it a shot! As you can see in the pictures I posted, my bbq sandwich was primarily made of bread and had barely any meat. If I wanted to eat a bread sandwich, I would have just gone to Fry's and gotten a loaf of bread for dinner. As for the Mac & Cheese that's featured in my pictures, it looked and tasted a few days old not to mention was served cold. My boyfriends sandwich had dressing oozing out of all corners of which he ended up just eating what he could out of the sandwich. The service was also extremely slow. They had maybe 2-3 people working and a total of 8-10 people in the restaurant and the food took forever. The staff was nice, but had no sense of urgency. If you're looking for a sandwich place, drive a few miles and go to Cheebah Hut. It's the same price and knocks this place out of the water. Sad to say I won't be headed back. read more

Stumbled upon this little gem when I was scrolling through door dash with my neighbor one day. Everything is so fresh and delicious, I was so surprised. I always get the spicy turkey melt, it hits the spot every time. I also recommend their cinnamon cheesecake, potato soup, & the blueberry lemonade. Everything on the menu is so good! Disappointed to say the least! I Ordered the pick 2 with a 1/2 McCallister's Club sandwich no lettuce, with extra cheese, a 1/2 Spud with only cheese and a pickle as well as a cup tort soup. Cost was over $30. Way too high priced for what you get. A severe case of price gouging in my opinion. They put a ton of spinach lettuce on the sandwich (the only thing I asked them not to put on), zero bacon, and the bread was toasted but cold and soggy and no pickle as requested. They charged me $1.00 for extra cheese and didn't even get what's normally on the sandwich. No one was in the restaurant at 3:00 pm on a Tuesday and not even busy. No reason whatsoever that they couldn't have paid more attention to my order and the modifications on the ticket. That's why it only took less than 5 minutes to complete the order, because they left too much out and added what wasn't supposed to be added. For the price, I expected a lot more from this place. Bacon at this place is amazing. I would recommend any sandwich with bacon. I didn't try the Spud but it looked tasty. Not the best option if you want more of meat though. The 2 halfs for 8.99 is a good offer, although watch out for the premium sandwiches because that will cost you 1.5 extra. All in all really fresh and tasty. read more

It's rare I go to a place and get so impressed that the m making a plan to go back. This place does everything right. From a clean appearance. To treating you properly. When we told the girl it was our first time her response was oh good that's my favorite customer. Then she went on to help us order. We both loved our food. Mine was a club sandwich which has to be one of the best I ever had. The bread was toasted perfectly. It tasted as if who ever made the sandwich did it with percussion with love. And they checked in the food not set it and forget it. And the. Came back again to bring refills. Everything was perfect. Personally I'm not a sandwich guy but this was good enough to change that. I ordered a catering order on-line. When I went to pick it up I was a disappointed in the amount of food for the price. I mentioned it to the staff, who informed the manager. I came here on a Sunday night, and the cashiers were talking among themselves while I was waiting at the counter ready to order. The black guy with an afro needs a haircut or wear a hair net. And the whole place stinks of garbage. The owner needs to take control of the place and make sure employees are serving the employees. Don't order to go. Don't order extra bacon. Don't order baked potatoes. The potato was yellow and waxy on the inside and not white and fluffy. I removed two servings of meat from my potato order ( price is not less for doing this) and added extra bacon (there is a charge for that) and bacon plus extra bacon apparently equals one teaspoon. We stopped in here to grab lunch and were happily surprised at what a variety they had on the menu. So much so, it took us a while to decide. Love that they have a pick two, so we could at least pick more than one menu item. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly as we tried to decide what to order. My family moved here from Indy a few years ago and this was our favorite casual restaurant. I was so happy when they opened up at ASU, as its only 15 min from my house. The best tea around (and I love tea)! They have a great selection of food, from sandwiches, soups, potatoes and salads. Portions are generous and entrees always taste fresh and flavorful! I love a fresh salad, and they have fantastic ones! Their grilled chicken salad is probably my favorite, with the savory sherry shallot dressing. Plus, one of the best things going for this place is the staff. Every single staff member is awesome. So friendly. Just a tip, download the app to get rewards like a free tea. They used to have tea punch cards and stuff, but now you have to download the app to get things like that (I do like the punchcards better, with a family of 4, the punchcards got us rewards faster). read more

Wife is from Texas and she Loves this place, she was so excited to go to the one they had opened in Tempe. After placing our order we waited for about 20 min the manager comes by and says he is filling an order for 40 sandwiches and it will be awhile before we would get our order. I walked back over to the register and explained they should of said that before we placed our order so we could decide to wait or leave. Manager seemed more concerned with completing the 40 sandwiches than the customers in the store . Another group was also upset and they got up and left. They kept taking order for customers and were not relaying this information as I was trying to get my refund to leave. I was not the only customer that left this afternoon. We really enjoyed it all! We had so many things: a grilled cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, tortilla soup, one of the black angus potatoes, broccoli cheese soup, a salad, tortilla soup, and the chicken salad on a croissant. It was all super good. The broccoli cheese was the cheesiest soup ever. The gravy was a little on the peppery side for an 8 year old...but we loved it. Great tasting sandwiches and spuds. First time we ate there it was clean food was great but since then it's been downhill. When you spend that much on a sandwich you think it would be right but they managed to mess it up. We also ordered chips and queso and they gave us a handful of chips and the smallest amount of queso. For the price the taste is there but it's not worth it when you get that small of servings and we've had the chips and queso before so we know what it's supposed to look like. McAlister's has not been unknown to me, as there was one and Biloxi, Mississippi where I lived before moving here to the valley. It was a constant lunch spot for us. The meat was wonderful and the iced tea delicious. When I saw that they had moved here to Tempe I was very excited, but it took quite some time before we decided to stop for a meal. The menu has grown extensively. I finally decided upon half a sandwich and half a shareable. I had roast beef on a baguette and nachos. When I took my first bite of roast beef, I remembered exactly why McAlister's had been such a fond place for eating. The meat is tender and delicious. Not the kind of roast beef that falls apart because it's been chopped and formed or stringy and tough like in so many places I get sandwiches. The nachos were plentiful and extremely good with chili, cheese sauce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and a plethora of black olives! Unlike many places I get nachos, there was enough topping for most of the chips. The jalapenos were a bit on the warm side for me, but crunchy and flavorful. My son got Caesar salad and french onion soup. The salad was crispy and tasty but the soup had an odd flavor to it, like some herb I am not accustomed the tasting in French onion soup, but he liked it. The staff in the deli are cheerful and helpful. For high-quality meat, make McAlister's a spot to choose often. read more

This deli is pretty good. We had their horseradish roast beef and cheddar sandwich and the southwest spicy chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese as the side. The service and the food are both 4/5 stars. The Mac and cheese was surprisingly good and the sandwiches filing. We will be back but it's not our new favorite place. read more
