When the Ike's by ASU first opened, I was a pretty picky eater. Shortly after graduating from high school, I became less picky about my eating habits. When I started at ASU back in 2014, I discovered Ike's as I was exploring Mill Avenue. Since then, Ike's has been among my favorite places for sandwiches. Although it is no longer on the menu, my favorite sandwich is the Steph Curry One, which features turkey, provolone cheese, and yellow BBQ sauce. I found out that even if something is not on the menu, they can still make it for you if you remember the combination. Some other sandwiches I like are the Hunter Pence and the Steve Nash. The service is friendly, and they are more than happy to offer suggestions on what sandwich to choose, as they have an excellent selection of sandwiches. I also like the atmosphere. It is nice and colorful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your food. Ike's is also a great place to go if you need to eat on the run. Once, I had to take my sandwich to go. Upon ordering it, they had it ready with plenty of time to spare. I also like that they have a rewards program. My friend recommended Ike's to me as I was looking to get a sandwich to go and it was exactly what I was looking for! It's a little tricky to find and not a ton of parking nearby, but I was able to find free street parking close by. I got the Jim Rome sandwich which has turkey, avocado, red pesto, and cheddar on wheat bread for about $13. The sandwich was pretty large and very delicious! They give you a caramel apple lollipop in the bag with it which is a fun touch. The restaurant is a casual, go up to the counter to order style and my food was ready in about 5 minutes. Just finished my first Ike's sandwich. Their version of a Reuben and it was amazing. It's summer so few students but the place was full of casual professionals on lunch break and my wait to order was less than a minute. The girl at the counter was beyond good customer service. Helped with the bread to choose and when I said everything she immediately asked about jalapeños sensing my appearance might require the question. It did. I laughed. I've been to this location several times now, and each time the staff is friendly and works quickly. At other locations, I've had to wait quite a while sometimes, but never here! I always order my trusty No. 111, the Ménage a trois, and it never fails me. The BEST sandwich I've ever ordered, and I will keep coming back here to this location and this chain for as long as I can! We were hungry at the Tempe Festival of the Arts and didn't feel like paying an arm and a leg for a grilled cheese sandwich or wait in the serpentine lines of other food trucks so we figured paying half an arm and a leg (Or maybe just one leg) would be better :p. The board menu seems a bit limited compared to other locations but I'm sure you can request anything they have on their online menus. Each location has their own special sandwich and for this one it is The Sun Devil which makes sense since we're in the downtown Tempe/ASU area. It is fried chicken in a "Sun Devil sauce" with 'merican cheese. I got it on Dutch crunch bread because I went Dutch on this sandwich with the toddler and who doesn't love a good crunchy bread? There is a decent amount of seating inside and 3 tables for patio seating right outside the shop. Forks Up for the Sun Devil Sandwich because no forks are needed for this handheld hoagie! I was devilishly hungry and dug in with gusto. It was good! The Sun Devil sauce is inspired by a Buffalo type sauce but a little more creamy, sweeter, and not as spicy as Buffalo sauce. The chicken was tender but not super crispy. If you bring a kiddo there is one high chair available but I had to wipe it down myself since it didn't seem like anyone else had ever done so. Service was friendly. It took a little longer than anticipated for all our sandwiches to be made but they were apologetic about it. Also, you know you are in the ASU area when your sandwich is handed to you by a guy in a fashionably shredded up Ike's shirt and Playboy Bunny shorts. P.S. My boss just called me to say Lunch had not arrived yet. I got EZ cater to call Ikes to see where my order is and was told that they "Forgot" my order. Ike's Love and Sandwiches, located adjacent to the world-renown Arizona State University Ceramics Research Center and Brickyard Gallery, was a disappointment to me and my dining companion but I'll admit I probably have higher standards than the typical Ike's customer -- college students looking for a cheap and quick infusion of calories. I had read good things about Ike's on Yelp and the menu seemed full of innovative and tasty combinations of freshly-made and award-winning sandwiches made to order and served hot. Unfortunately.. the execution failed to live up to the promise. My dining companion and I stopped in for a late lunch looking for a quick and tasty meal while trying to avoid the sports bars on Mills Avenue on a recent Sunday. We decided to split two sandwiches to sample a wider variety of the menu - the award-winning Elvis Keith ($13), with chicken, wasabi mayo, and teriyaki sauce and the special Howie Eat It ($13) inspired by TV personality Howie Mandel, with tuna, Godfather Sauce (garlic dijon horseradish sauce), and Dirty Sauce (garlic aioli). Despite the restaurant being almost empty when we arrived, we had to wait 15-20 minutes for our two sandwiches.. and, while it might have been poor choices on our part, our sandwiches were totally indistinguishable from each other in terms of taste or consistency despite the very different ingredients.
