I've been to this shop three times now, all for routine maintenance on two separate vehicles (two oil changes, brake fluid flush and a front brake job). I've interacted with multiple advisors and a mechanic and so far the experience has been excellent. Communication has been solid, their pricing is in line with other places, they use good quality parts and fluids, and they have an excellent warranty. I bought a McCabe's oil change coupon from their sales guy going door to door. When I actually got the oil change and used their coupon, McCabe's told me that the coupon didn't actually cover the full cost of the oil change. Too bad, so sorry. Really left a bad taste in my mouth. Later on, when the battery in my vehicle died, McCabe's quoted me a crazy amount to replace it. They acted like they were going to have to reset the computer in my vehicle and it was going to be a huge deal. Yeah right. I don't know if their a good mechanic because I didn't even get that far. Myles "greeted" me at the front desk and his attitude was so bad I walked out. I walked in the door and he immediately had an attitude and treated me like I was the biggest inconvenience he's ever experienced. Not to mention they tried to charge me $100+ just to look at my car when all I need is my battery checked. So beyond disappointed. The lady at the front desk was wonderful though. She was very nice when taking my call for the appointment. She had been moving a car I believe when I walked in which is why he ended up "helping" me. I was having issues with my brakes and feared I was going to need a full brake job. Turned out I didn't I just needed the front brakes replaced. They were honest, kind, provided a free loaner car and I also learned they do oil changes as well. The lady at the front desk was really nice and sweet. A mixed bag. The good: They stand behind their work and have AAA endorsement. They have kind and skilled mechanics. Everyone is friendly and they have free loaner vehicles (you just replace the gas you used). The bad: Not trying to diss them, as even the shop won't argue that they are not the lowest price you can find. I honestly think that, even with these luxuries accounted for, they charge too much. I found out I could have spent 1/3 to 1/2 as much at another reputable shop - a shop with zero glamour/luxury though. Conclusion: Nice if you have a good deal of financial wiggle room. I just had work done in my truck, they kept it overnight. Today when I picked up my truck I noticed several scratches on the drivers door that where not there yesterday. The guy who worked on the truck said there was already extensive damage to the body and walked away. The lady behind the counter had pictures of the truck and the drivers door and the scratches were not there. She said the owner would have to take care of it the next day. I got in my truck to drive off and she starts yelling at me and calls me a Dick. I would not recommend using the business, this is all after I had just spent over $2000.00 The pics are not good but the scratches are down to the metal. read more

Run...or drive very quickly the other direction. I went here twice. once for an oil change and they did NOT seal the filter properly and it ended up leaking oil all over my driveway. When I called and complained, I was met with a patronizing attitude from the manager. Visit #2 I paid $600 for them to fix my driver side window. Within three months (even though they SAY they put in a new motor they lied) the entire unit got bound up and my window was getting stuck in the rain, rolling it down at starbucks, etc. When I called and complained...again the manager was incredibly patronizing and informed me "I had NO warranty".... As a woman, I dislike being treated as though I am stupid and that is exactly how I was treated. I have since taken my truck to Titus Will Service and spent (oh yes, wait for it....ANOTHER $700) to have everything fixed that McCabes did not do... OH...and the kicker? Titus has given me a one year warranty AND the best part? they informed me that McCabes installed a USED PART...not new like what I paid for. Enormous waste of money and unethical group of mechanics I have ever had to deal with. UPDATE: 9/27/2013 I stand by my original review. 100% 1. Jiffy Lube has NEVER messed up an oil change to the point my truck leaks over a quart of oil all over my driveway. It was an ecological disaster. literally. What makes McCabes think it is okay that they do it? without offering to clean up the mess? What your manager told me to do was "throw some cat litter on it". Really? That much oil all over my driveway, should have warranted a small cleanup operation on your part. 2. I paid $600 for a "new" part that obviously failed after three months because it was used according to Titus. There is absolutely no reason why Titus would lie to me after I told them my previous issues with McCabes. McCabes also did NOT give ME a "two year warranty" according to what the owner response has been. That is an outright lie. Let me make this very clear. There is absolutely no way as a customer and a woman that I should have to pay AGAIN for the same part failing or be treated as poorly as I was treated. It is downright unethical. I do not have to call or justify anything to an owner who made it very clear to me back then that "your warranty just expired" and you would not warranty the part or service after only THREE MONTHS. I have never heard of such a thing then and I have never had it happen since. Titus fixed the motor and I have never had a problem since. Let me also make it very clear When you give bad service Mr. McCabe, expect a VERY honest report and review. I have never been back to your business, nor will I. Ever. While I don't typically spend a lot of time in the Tacoma area, I had been in town recently working for a few days and needed an oil change before I drove home. I was very fortunate to find McCabe's and thrilled they were able to get my 2014 Volt in before I had to return home. It is a rather large shop, to include a dedicated bay and lube technician available to perform the oil change. They were able to get my car in and out in less time than promised, and the price was very reasonable as I felt I received excellent value for the services received. In addition to the oil change, they checked all fluids and topped up the air in the tires, making for a safe trip home. The shop has been a successful family owed and operated business since 1972. Rick and his daughter Ashley run a tight ship, very clean and very well organized. If you are looking for an oil change (or other work), choose McCabe's over any of the budget shops such as Jiffy Lube or Valvoline. You will get great service from experienced technicians rather than the 'fast food' type service received from the budget shops. read more

WOW!!! I'll say it again, backwards this time, WOW!!!! I am so grateful we found McCabe's when we did! They have saved us almost $1,000 between two of our cars that both started having issues about the same time. We took both vehicles for a brake check and air conditioning repair at presumably reputable places in Gig Harbor (Precision Tune and Les Schwab who previously always had a great experience with tires and oil changes so we thought it would be ok) the quote for the first vehicle was that front and back brakes needed replaced (20% on both) and at a quote of over $1000. They also said brakes on our other vehicle were just fine and didn't need replaced. $1,000 is a lot of money for brakes so we took it to McCabe's for a second opinion and the urging of my parents (also loyal McCabe's customers for years now) and I am SOOOOOO grateful we did! Turns out my front brakes were just fine at 70% and didn't need to be replaced. That's a far cry from the 20% Les Schwab stated. Only the rear brakes needed replacing and at about a third of the cost of the other quote! We were convinced then and there that this was our new "home" for auto repairs. The same day we picked up the first car the second car's check engine light goes on... awesome... we just got the air conditioner replaced a day or two before that at the Gig Harbor Precision Tune (it's been an expensive week for cars LOL) so we thought it was just something that got bumped etc. Turns out someone damaged the relay and there was a hole in it! A hole!!! OMG! I don't know a lot about cars but even I know you'd have to be doing something really stupid to have that happen. Now here is the kicker... we had McCabe's check the brakes of that vehicle too since they did feel a little soft to us. The brakes were at 1mm!!! OMG! If we hadn't found McCabe's when we did and trusted Les Schwab or Precision Tune we would have been grinding metal on metal in no time... unbelievable!! McCabe's not only "made it right" to quote Mike Holmes but at a super speedy and extremely reasonable price. They got us back on the road in no time and saved us hundreds of dollars in the process. They had every opportunity to rip us off multiple times and they didn't. Quality and integrity are definitely the hallmarks of this company. It shows in everything they do. The staff is fabulous and does such a wonderful job at explaining the what's and why's of the repairs. There is no question how they arrived at the final bill as every detail is broken out and accounted for. They even gave us an online coupon we didn't even know about! They have blessed us beyond words!!! We have a two year old and to think of all the driving we did thinking everything was ok just makes your head spin. They will quote you an overall price, but stand tall and make them to break the charges down in detail (they did not offer until I pressed) and you suddenly realize you will be paying much more than the market. These guys were AAA recommended. Took my Dodge in to have a sensor replaced that was causing my service light to come on. After a 4 hour wait, the mechanic came out and informed me that I had some really bad oil leaks that and he could fix it right away if I could wait. I park my car on an old whitish carpet in my garage and never saw any oil drops, so I said no thanks. Had my son-inlaw confirm my suspicion a couple of days later. These guys are FRAUDS. Since moving to this area I've used Mccabes for all of our car needs. We initially went to another car service (wont name it) only to be told our car needed serious tuneups and repairs with a cost north of a grand. This happened weeks before Christmas leaving us devastated and confused because we simply came in for an oil change and walked out with a bill that was more than our mortgage. I received a coupon in the mail for an oil change to McCabe's at the exact time I was needing one. I am new to Tacoma and payed $50 for an oil change at Jiffy Lube when I first moved here so a chance to catch a break and support a local business was not something I could turn down. The customer service was good, nothing too exciting, but also nothing I could complain about. I haven't had any leaking or any problems with the work that was done. I appreciate that after the full vehicle inspection, they explained the various issues they had found on my car but did not pressure me into getting the work done with them. I very much dislike when a business tries to take advantage of me with fear, manipulation, and pressure. I felt well informed and plan to contact them for a quote for repair. The cleanliness/comfort of the waiting room could use some work. And unlike most places, my oil change did not include vacuuming out my car. Overall, I am satisfied and would return. read more

I took my car in to be diagnosed for some front end issues. Dropping it off was nice enough- the gentleman who took me in was friendly. I dropped off around 11 and they called me around 1 or so that it was ready. He explained that it was my front rotors. I went to pick it up and again, the gentleman who took my money seemed nice enough. I walked out to my car to find it unlocked- no biggie I guess it's in their lot. Then I got in my car and the seat is positioned for whoever test drove it. Annoying since I just paid $110 to have a diagnosis. In my car, all you have to do is push a button to put the seat back where it started- which of course I can do also- no biggie. Then next day I went to the store and opened the trunk to put my purchase in and I was shocked to discover that a tornado went through my trunk!!! It took a moment for me to realize that McCabes had done it- and I knew immediately why. I have wheel locks and they needed the key but rather than call me to help them find it, they tore up my trunk trying to get to my spare and couldn't be bothered to put it back together properly. At that point I called to voice my unhappiness. The worst part is that now I don't even know if they checked out my car completely as they didn't find the key for the wheels. I don't mind paying for some good service but as far as I'm concerned all they did was drive my car and look underneath it. I could have done that myself. Unbelievable!!!!!! read more

This place is a total ripoff. They overcharge for their services, and where other automotive repair shops do not even charge to find out what's wrong with your vehicle in the first place, McCabe's charges $122 just to run a diagnostic on your vehicle, and that's WITH a AAA discount! They say they charge a premium because of their warranty and use of OEM parts, but that's a bunch of malarkey. Other shops back their services with the exact same warranty, but charge a fraction of what McCabes charges, and do not charge to do an initial inspection on your vehicle. In addition, McCabe's service advisor told me that AAA would not tow my vehicle to a different shop, which is absolutely untrue! Stay away from McCabes - not sure why they have a good reputation! read more

They do an outstanding job on my Honda Civic and Chevy Silverado, and they have never tried to over sell me or do any repairs that aren't necessary at the time. So I took my car into the shop cause I wanted a Company I could trust to bring my cars, had my brake light stuck on took a couple hours to find my tow button was stuck, i was happy they found that, wasn't happy when i asked for a estimate on my air conditioner making a loud noise was 700 for a/c and tow button, and when i go to pay they tell me there could be something else wrong with it that costs double apparently someone else had the same problem as me and don't be surprised if my car is the same, with in an hour it is still making the same noise, um what did I just pay for? Then they estimate my same problem at 1100 dollars more! What did you actually fix? I felt so used leaving there readng some reviews on here I'm not surprised! read more

I have had good work done here in the past. However today Mccabe's irritable mechanic informed me they charge $60 to replace an air filter. I never asked him to check my air filter. The technician pulled out the filter which probably took 5 min then wanted to charge approximately $50 labor to change it. Then he insisted that he would have to take my battery out to change a bulb for my headlight. I have seen others take approximately 1 minute to reach in to change it for $20. Now I have to put in a code and re-program my radio. It seems I am putting more effort to take my car in, wait two hours for an oil change and headlamp, fix all the collateral damage,then they are. They certainly did not like being challenged on their high labor costs and all they could say is they need to stay in business. There seems to be a happy medium between my interests and theirs unfortunately they do not seem to think so. And did I mention they are not open weekends? Will find another garage. read more

I took my Jeep into McCabes to find out that I needed a whole new engine. As you can imagine, I was in disbelief and knew the cost would kill me. They walked me through the whole process with true care. I knew that the mechanic Rick would suggest what was best for me and my truck and had incredible input.
