My wife had breakfast here last week, the experience was so great she came home and said "we HAVE to go back this Saturday". We arrived here around 9:15 a few minutes after a table of 17 had just been seated. We got a table immediately and within minutes had our coffee and water. Shortly thereafter after we placed our order. Because of the party of 17 it took a minute for our food to arrive but our waitress stopped by and explained the reason for the delay. This is the cutest small town diner. Everytime I drive by they are packed and you'll know why once you try it. It's true home cooking with flavor. I was looking for a breakfast taco but since that wasn't on the menu got the wrap. So delicious and big!!! Didn't love the pico that came on the side but the burrito honestly didn't need it. First visit with a group of neighbors. The parking is extremely limited. Food prices are in line with other small business restaurants. Most of us had American breakfast- 2 eggs, 2 bacon and English Muffin. Other ladies had oatmeal, quiche and pancake. Everyone was pleased with the food, coffee and service. Several of us took cinnamon rolls home. We were not rushed and other patrons seemed to be enjoying the restaurant and meal. read more

We went in for breakfast to go, but we knew we were in the right place. There was a 30 minute wait just for to go and the place is only open from about 8 AM to 12 PM so they must be doing something right we had biscuits and sausage gravy, which were delicious with fluffy biscuits and the eggs were just divine. Had a very disappointing experience today. After waiting 30 minutes to be seated (which is fine), we then waited about 40 minutes for an omelette and a Benedict. The omelette was hardly an omelette (eggs folded over a bunch of crumbled sausage) and the Benedict was overdone so we had to send it back and wait another 10-15 for it to be remade. It also seems we were charged for an orange juice refill that we did not ask for, the waitress just brought it on her own. So almost $50 and 1.5 hours later, not feeling very happy with our experience. read more

Sister brought me in when visiting salado. It was packed and when I tasted the coffee and food I could see why! Everyone was really nice and welcoming. For the past few years, his Lil place was one of our favorites. However, a visit about a month ago was the worse we had until today. We decided to give it another chance today. Ugh! We were seated right way, in a tiny table by the bathrooms. Location wasn't an issue... people SQUEEZING by us to get to the restroom was terrible! Love to give local business owners our attention but this was so disappointing. Got coffee & our waitress NEVER came back to top off. Waited 45 minutes for breakfast & at best lukewarm. Heard the table behind us say the same thing about their order. McKenna was our waitress & I always tip 20% or more but unfortunately she only got the 15% on the choices on the ipad... We stopped in here for breakfast on the way home from our Airbnb, and we were seated immediately upon entering the diner. I love the ambience it gives you the feel of real old world diner, with fresh baked cookies and pies to boot. The portions are large, although my BF had no problem, finishing his everything omelette. It was loaded with meat to the point it couldn't be contained by the egg. It was served up with a side of house made salsa. I had the quiche and what a good quiche it was. It was eggy and creamy...I can still taste it. I opted for the chai tea latte with coffee added (a nice twist on the original). All in all it was a great experience. They're only open for breakfast/brunch (closed on Mondays) so be sure to stop by early. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Salado. read more

Don't let the unassuming exterior deter you from trying McCain's. This is cutest little bakery and cafe in Salado. The service is friendly but not pushy. I am a reuben fanatic, and I think McCain's may have the best reuben I've ever had. The marbled rye was perfectly toasted and the proportions of meat, sauerkraut, and dressing were perfect. The bakery display offers a variety of goodies. I tried the oatmeal raisin cookie that was thick and chewy just the way I like them. I'm looking forward to trying their eggs Benedict next time I'm in town for breakfast. read more

But the traditional cafe breakfast was stellar. We ordered the light breakfast. Two eggs, bacon or sausage, and one piece of toast or a biscuit or a pancake. Our eggs... mine sunny side up; Anne's over easy, were each cooked to perfection. Bacon thick and good, sausage patty tasty. The biscuit was nothing to write home about, but the wheat toast was quite nice. Not your lame big bakery wheat bread. Real butter. Smucker's jams and jellys. What's not to like? The food looked appealing and was tasty, the service was great but as for getting your food... there's a bit of a wait, but it's a small kitchen and it will be worth your time. Pretty small restaurant with a country feel, I mean it is Salado Tx. The Eggs Benedict will be my next thing to try, the hash browns were cooked perfectly too. Biscuits looked fluffy, the Quiche looked Amazing by the way! They have pies, muffins, and a number of ways to order coffees. If pancakes are your thing, they have huge ones with a hint of vanilla and they too are prepared as they should be. We had zero problems or complaints with our breakfast experience. Stopped in for breakfast, based on the 4 stars for other reviews and a few friends recommendations we stopped in. Wouldn't recommend at all, save your money and go somewhere else. Service was not great at all, no one checked on us had to call the waitress over each time just to get things. Ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and hash browns and also ordered an everything omelet with extra ham, cold brew coffee and a soda. Biscuits with sausage gravy, gravy was good, biscuits almost cooked but needed a few more minutes, sausage was horrible and dry almost like it was the crusty bits left over in a pan. Hash browns were not crispy they were more soft mash potato with the slightest cook mark. Omelet the egg I swear was cooked in a microwave in a large oval plate and then the filling was placed inside and just folded over, absolutely horrible. The ham was literally lunch meat slice cut in half and fried on the cook top. The bread that came with the omelet was still soft like it had just come out of the package and they slapped it on the grill for two seconds a side and gave it to us. Restaurant itself is cute and has a nice atmosphere but the service of the staff and the food is not good. It's just a no for us and will not recommend. read more

I had the Guatemalan pancake,,,with walnuts baked in the batter with sliced banana on top dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
