The most perfectly curated store. A ton of local brands including snacks and full blown meals. We stopped in today for the rotating sandwich they have on Saturday's and our tastebuds couldn't have been happier. A perfectly toasted bun and the lobster insides were perfectly doused with sauce. Service was quick and friendly. The only caveat is it is all a bit pricey. I do feel like I was getting quality but a $30 lobster roll that is a bit small left me wanting more! Definitely worth stoping in and checking out. Looking forward to trying the next Saturday sandwiches. read more

I'm feeling very conflicted that the tuna is treated with carbon monoxide. And I think a lot of it. There was no smell what so ever. Which is odd. And the color looked super unnntural. The only ingredient is tuna and carbon monoxide. After much search online it says this is done on CHEAP fish. Which this store is anything but that. Well I thought that. I've always thought so highly of this place. Especially with the price point . So kinda feel conflicted and disappointed. And I am wondering why there are no ingredients on the sea weed salad. It looks to be dyed green which I definitely don't want to be eating. Is it legal to not have ingredients? Just looking for some clarity honestly. I used to live across the street from the original McCall's, and as much as I enjoy my current home, I miss the direct access to some of the best meat and fish in the city. If I lived in Santa Monica and ran my errands on Montana, I'd be a regular at this McCall's. I stopped by on my way home from a friend's house in the neighborhood, to pick up supplies for a Sunday night dinner at home. The store was attractive and comfortable, just a lovely place to shop. The meat and seafood are the main attractions here, and they were fun and easy to browse, arranged neatly in their display cases. The walls were lined with gourmet grocery items, and there were refrigerated sections with cured meat and cheese and fresh produce. I was hoping to find duck breasts, but the only ones available were frozen, not ideal for dinner that night. I decided to go with steak instead, and there were so many options I asked the guy helping me to recommend one. I ended up getting two wagyu New York strip steaks, which were only a little more expensive than the non-wagyu. I also picked up some cheese and broccolini to round out our meal. Everything was delicious. I've gotten a lot of meat and fish at McCall's over the years, and the quality has never faltered. My only complaint is that there isn't a location right next to my house. read more

It's almost like it's a requirement to be rude if you work here. The few times I've been to this location, I walk in & am never greeted, just awkwardly stared at. Today the same thing happened. I get to the meat counter & there are 3 people behind the counter (there is no one else being helped at this point) & no one acknowledges me for almost 5 mins. Even when, just very nonchalant. Mind you, I actually walked in around 9am earlier today when they were closed but the door was open so I was unaware. I was shopping for over 5 mins then a guy yells we're closed & doesn't bother to acknowledge that they left the door unlocked so that's kind of on them. The service in general is so off putting. Even though the products are good, it makes you not want to go back. If I'm paying a premium, at least be nice. read more

I stumbled upon this place on a recent Sunday and think I'm in love with the meat here! The store is small, but has a great selection of dry goods and produce alongside their amazing meats. The whole place has a cool vibe and everything on display is fresh and clearly of high quality. I ended up grabbing two different sausages and was blown away by how good both were. The cheeseburger sausage was extremely memorable and the spicy italian was one of the best links I've had since moving to LA from the east coast. Would like to see the options for cuts expand even more to include Porterhouses, tri-tip but the quality of their current selection is excellent. The second stepping foot inside McCall's I was warmly greeting & welcomed by all the wide-smiles behind the counters. The first thing that caught my eye & immediate attention was the display of bright & beautiful fresh fish in the counter. Wow. If only I didn't already have dinner plans...I would've certainly bought a piece of salmon. Then as I walked over to the other side of the store, I saw their display of meats & steaks. While I was looking, a guy was being helped with an order for his dinner party that evening - bone-in ribeye for 8 people and the guy behind the counter suggested how much would satisfy Eight is Enough (tv sitcom pun intended) I read all the favorable & glowing Yelp reviews and whole-heartedly agree the neighborhood is/was indeed in need of a place like this. I just went to McCall's for chef Laura McClain's "Veggie Takeover" that's happening every Monday. I got the tofu "bacon buddy" roll-up on a toasted almond flour tortilla with the harissa dipping sauce. The combination was DELICIOUS!! I don't eat meat or wheat and the flavor of the tofu was like brisket, and it was divine!! What's crazy is the spanakopita roll-up was equally fantastic! (Bonus--it was also gluten-free and dairy-free!) Also got fantastic chocolate chocolate chip cookies and df gf black sesame cookies. There were tons of sauces, condiments, and different types of lentils in jars, for takeaway. This shop made me wish I live nearby! For the incredible food and for effortless entertaining--it would be my go-to place for dinner party food. read more

I recently purchased McCall's burger blend, pork chop and bacon and all three items were amazing. Best bacon and pork chop I have ever cooked at home and I am not a gourmet cook. Burger blend had a good balance of tasty flavor, but was not so fatty and did not shrink in half, if at all. I also tried their Italian sausage and it was outstanding.
