Simply put, this place does not want your money nor do they even want your presence at their establishment. We had only 3 interactions with staff members in the entire 30 minutes that we were there trying (unsuccessfully) to order food and drink, and each interaction was worse than the previous one. First they were rude about us asking if we could have our dog on the patio (no, by the way). Then it was that we parked in employee only parking (not marked, by the way). Finally, we were at the restaurant for 30 minutes seated with menus but no one came to take our drink or food order even though they walked by time and time again and saw we hadn't been helped. We literally saw them take a food order at the table next to us and then deliver their food before we left. At the 30 minute mark one of the staff members came up and said, "you know you are supposed to order at the bar right?". No signs telling you where or how to order, no one suggesting we order at the bar when we are ready, no explanations, no apologies, no manners, no service. In short, it seems like it is all just a big game to see how much crap the servers can give people who aren't from around there before they call it quits and leave. What was going to be a nice dinner turned out to be an incredibly annoying ordeal, to the point that it led me to write this review which is the first negative one I've ever posted. In short, take my advice and those of many other more entertaining and descriptive fellow Yelp reviewers who caution you to stay clear of this establishment. read more

Stopped in because we had some time to hang and wanted to get to know FairPlay eateries better, summer 2019. We had a cozy little spot outside looking at the river with lots of hanging flowers baskets all around. The beer was cold and the strawberry jalapeño wings were exceptional. Buffalo chili not so much tho. Mine is way better. A second chance is probably in order. The other food that came out of the kitchen the burgers and salads looked great and people seem to be enjoying them. Lots of locals enjoy this waterhole. Stopped by after a morning of skiing en route to a weekend in Buena Vista. A Denver local, I've never had the opportunity to stop here, just wasn't on my travels. But I have zero complaints. This place is exactly what one would expect in a small town. Limited taps, but the IPA was perfection AND served in a chilled glass. Got a beef philly sandwich on French bread with side salad. Char on the peppers and meat was perfect. The bread looked a little light colored, but the taste and texture proved to be fabulous. Legit salad with mushrooms and broccoli slaw, not just iceberg. A great cowboy dive bar in a historic cowboy town. I love Fairplay, it is real Colorado. It's ranching country. Real Colorado, no sushi and big city nonsense, bison burgers, beef and local meat! The bison burger is perhaps the best bison burger I've had. Sourced from local bison and cooked perfectly, that is juicy. The specials are good, lasagna, meatloaf and really anything that is special is house made. The staff is great, Melissa is very friendly, knowledgeable and good at her job. She gave my brother and I some good happy spots to hit in Breckenridge. I normally stop her to and from Breck. It's worth it. I'm willing to bet that Fairplay hasn't changed a lot in the last 100 years, saved paved roads. And that's good in my book! read more

Worst bar in South Park. The service was terrible and to top it off the owner was rude and very disrespectful. I guess if you are not a regular you get treated poorly. I find this upsetting having just moved to the area. Avoid this place. Try the new brewery instead. read more

This is the place to be in Fairplay. Gets a little rowdy late at night. And really busy on the weekends. The food is really great bar food. Normally get fish and chips. As dining options are limited in fairplay, this spot is a regular as it is one of the few that doesn't have a weird schedule. The food is pretty good, it's bar food so don't come here expecting gourmet dining. The burgers are good, the Philly is good, I'd stay away from the ground beef burrito smothered in green chili sauce. Best part about eating here: TATER TOTS!!! I don't know why tater tots aren't served everywhere! This place has been packed every time I've been here, winter or summer so be warned about that. read more

I have read a lot of reviews about this place. Many people complain about the service if they are not locals. My husband and I went last Saturday night because we heard they had a great burger. It was true! They were a 1/2 pound of sheer heaven, which translates to beef for me and bison for my husband. We had to wait a little while, which was fine with us. We like to soak up the local flavor. The burgers were cooked to perfection. The buns were delicious and equal to the task of holding those big burgers, which is not an easy feat at that altitude. The lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle were all fresh and crisp. The fries were good, too. I wish they had a sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio by the glass, but the chardonnay was OK. Loved the local feel of this place and the town of Fairplay. Our server was prompt and warmed up to us. These ladies were extremely busy, but not grumpy in the least. Bottom line, don't expect to be treated like a local if you are not. If you want to soak up the local feel, this is the place. McCall's Park Bar - Amazing time? - American Near Me - Fairplay, Colorado

I don't think I have ever had this happen before so I just have to have a say about it. We went camping this weekend and had some visitors stop by. We went to Jefferson Lake in Jefferson,CO. For lunch on Saturday, we drove into Fairplay and had lunch at a place known as McCalls on the main drag just West of Hiway 285. I have been here before and the food was real good. This time, we took my brother and sister-in-law with us. It was a welcome change from camping food. So we head in and sit down and order beverages. The nice young lady is real good about the service and she comes by to take our order. I order a pastrami and Swiss on rye. Now here's the fun part. SHe brings out all the food and drops a Philly beef and swiss in front of me. I tell her, hey this isn't pastrami. No problem, I figure they made the wrong thing and I have no problem waiting a few minutes to get what I ordered. I don't get what I ordered as the young lady comes back and tried to tell me that the cook says it is pastrami, it's just brown because it's cut from the end of the whole piece.. Now look, I'm not some dope who doesn't know what pastrami is. I've got a degree in culinary arts and I am a native New Yorker. I know what the hell pastrami looks like, tastes like and smells like. This was not pastrami. I could also tell that the nice young lady knew this too. She was really having a hard time lying to me, but I suspect she was told to do so by either the owner or the moronic cook in back. I don't know how you could expect to slide Philly beef past someone as pastrami, but they sure tried. I will go back, but not before I tell as many people as I can about this. It's no problem to tell me "sorry we're out of pastrami" or anything but fucking lie to me. DO NOT GO HERE!!! A friend and I just ate here and it sucked....I can't go into enough detail about how horrible our "bartender" was. I've been a bartender/server for over 18 years an have never in my life received such horrible service. She was old and grumpy with teeth getting ready to fall out onto your food. Must be a side effect of the meth. You could tell she was on drugs or didn't have any which must explain why she was so pissed and unhappy. Food was below par and the beer that took her 10 minutes to pour was warm, yummy. Even on the verge on starvation I could not recommend this poor excuse for a restaurant/bar to even my worse enemy. Just so everyone knows this is my first negative review on yelp and usually I only give good reviews. I would not recommend this place at all! I've been there several times, trying to give it a few chances but finally realized that they are not worth the $ I work hard for....(Note...I am a good tipper)...The service is horrible unless they know you personally. The food is ok but lost my appetite when I saw a roach in the restroom. Most of the "bartenders" are bitter and I even witnessed one of the bartenders changing the music on the juke box after someone put money in it and chose a song, telling her bar front patrons that she had heard that song too much. Really? They ignore customers and hardly ever have a smile on their face. The worse part is, I've seen the owner there while his employees are providing this type of service. Hmmmm...makes one think. Mostly a locals hang out. Fun out back in the summer with a great view of the river and horse shoe tossers. Service can be hit or miss. Burgers are good and if you are the only ones ordering, you can get one in about 15 min. If there are more than 5 people ordering, it'll take more than an hour.
