They do things differently there…read more If you happen to be in this very busy part of central Albany, perhaps getting an amazing Gyro from My Gyro Station, or a Falafel/Shawarma Pita sandwich from Mamoun's, you will instantly notice the massive, dominant, haunting, imposing structure across the street, just the way you see it in the rainy picture I posted. The Armory, for me, is the most spectacular sight in Albany. Partly because of the way it looks and dominates the area with its sheer size, but partly because it's in an area full of shops and people and traffic, and really stands out from all the typical downtown hustle and bustle, rather than being tucked away somewhere. It's right on a major intersection. It give Albany a lot of character and is well worth checking out. Definitely a 5-star attraction. And if you fall in love with a French girl here (probably from Montreal), then that's very Amoury.

What a magical place, depicted in several films (A League of Their Own), it's a beautiful park that lets you watch league games for free walk-ups. A must visit for any baseball fan & just down Main Street from the historical Hall of Fame. Batter up!

I went here for the NY Energy Summit. The Renaissance, where I stayed, was next door. The amenities…read morewere good, and the layout was easy to navigate. The Summit comprised two conference halls -- one for doing work and conversing and the other for the panel discussions. There is a second floor that is a much larger conference hall with high ceilings and cool blue lighting. We had lunch on the one full day of the conference. Parking if you are driving is available across the street and can be accessed either from the street or through a skyway that is connected with the Capital Center.

Big E live blog:…read more -Rainy weekday afternoon crowd levels are robust. -Don't miss the Rhode Island Clam Chowder from Blount's in the Rhode Island building. -Of course I was curious about the long line for the Maine baked potato ($8, cash only). Quite an elaborate snack. -I'm slowing down my food pace so I don't fall asleep before the Sister Hazel show at 8. -Fried butter is fine if you want to say you had fried butter but you can skip it. -Smoked salmon in the Maine building was great. More surprising is that I also enjoyed the "Big Sexy" combo at Broccoli Bar. -I like the efficiency Farm-A-Rama, sort of a greatest hits collection that has some animals like goats and alpacas, giant pumpkins and local apples on sale for 50 cents each. -Sister Hazel did a fine job on their one major hit and also tore it up with a couple of cover tunes. You have to like a festival that books Chubby Checker (Friday at 2) and Queensryche (Sunday at 8).
