We are in the midst of renovating bathrooms when we realized water was getting thru our beautiful french doors that lead to our backyard. I was hoping to repair them, but had a few companies come out (including McCann) and it appeared we need to fully replace them. McCann was the second company that came out and they sent Max. Max gave us a lot of good information on the best materials, sizing of the doors, etc. He recommended we go to the Pella showroom together to check out all the options, which was super helpful. Based on my experience with Max and Pella I was about to order doors thru them, but then got a quote that seemed quite high once they realized the doors would have to be a custom size and we would also have to customize for color (to match our other windows). I decided it was an expensive enough purchase that I should shop around some more and ended up going with another company. Overall, I found Max to be pretty responsive and knowledgeable when it came to doors/windows. While McCann didn't work for our needs this time they would be worth reaching out to for other window/door replacements in the future. read more

We had McCann replace windows in our house - approximately 25 windows and replaced them with vinyl windows. Two windows were large, fixed casing windows with "eyebrows" and a double door. Dealing with McCann is a mixed bag. First the good part. For the most part, the workmen were clean, polite and mostly competent. But the project theme was poor organization and poor communication. What was described as Day 1 of the install to me was McCann rep showing up at my door explaining that they would need to use my garage for storage ("just one interior wall" - which turned out to be the entire garage) O.K. They needed an area for staging but that would have been nice to know up-front so I could plan. That was it for day one - so nothing installed on first day of install. Day two, they unpacked stuff from their truck and demoed the existing windows and started installing the new. Kevin assured me this was their "A" team and things seemed to be moving along nicely for days 2 and 3. By day 4 it was clear something was amiss - in some rooms certain new windows were not installed even though all the other windows in the room had been installed. Curious - couldn't find the forman and had to make several calls to the office to make contact with someone who could find out because they didn't know. Finally tracked down the forman who said, he contacted the office and was waiting to find out about it. What was it? It was that they had not measured right, or may have ordered wrong - at any rate some windows weren't the right size and some parts were missing. But not to worry, they had a great relationship with the manufacturer and would put a rush on the order. Well custom windows are custom windows and what started in the first week of September would be finished in February. In the mean time I inspected the windows and door that they had installed. One broke on inspection and the door had parts missing and did not fit right... McCann had someone come and confirm all issues and to McCanns credit they made no bones about fixing the issues - don't worry we'll send our "A team" (which was a different "A team" than the first "A team". Also to McCann's credit they didn't ask for the last half of the payment until they had everything installed and fixed. Finally, I would say that the McCann people were all uniformally nice to deal with but there was not even one instance from the time I signed the contract until they finished the install that I didn't have to initiate the call to find out what was happening. In the final part of the install, I made them a project checklist to keep them organized which they unabashedly used (and I hope for the sake of other clients they incorporate such a thing into future projects) They got the install done and for the most part the windows are exactly what we expected but it was A LOT MORE WORK dealing with McCann that I would have liked. read more

From the initial consulatation to installation, McCann always kept me up to date and answered any questions. The installers (did a great job on a cold snowy day! DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND McCann just replaced three sliding glass doors in my home. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. The installation crew was friendly, on time and did excellent work. A supervisor stopped by at the beginning of the job, and the owner came by once the work was complete to inspect the job and get my feedback. Three things kept me from giving them five stars: I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to receive my doors, and that they would contact me to schedule installation. In reality, it was 13 weeks before they were installed, and I had to reach out to them to inquire about installation. After agreeing to the install date they proposed, I received no other communication. They showed up promptly on the agreed upon day, but a quick email confirming the date and letting me know the time would have been easy and much appreciated. They are a little more expensive than others. I think they were worth the price; it has been a good experience. But at a higher price, my expectations are a bit higher too. All minor complaints, but they're the difference between very good and great. read more

We had old windows that had been neglected by the previous owners to the point where the sills had rotted and windows could barely open as they were exposed to the elements. Due to supply chain issue, the windows took a while to get here but I was kept informed the entire time. The installers were super professional and you could tell they took pride in their job. We had 9 windows and a sliding patio door replaced in 2019. From the estimate provided in person by Kevin (owner), to the timely and professional installation, everything was extremely pleasant throughout the process. Everyone who was involved were professional, and courteous, Windows were received on time, installed professionally and on time. The installers cleaned up the job site, despite the pouring rain! Fast forward to the deep freeze of February 2021 when we noticed a significant draft coming in from the bottom of one of the new windows. I contacted McCann and without hesitation, they sent a service technician to look into the issue. The tech was actually one of the installers who remembered our install. Despite the below zero temperatures, he immediately began working outside to determine the source of the draft. He went above and beyond to rectify the issue. Worst experience! Rude! I definitely do NOT recommend this company. My husband made the appointment with Kevin (who by the way showed up 15min late). Upon arrival to my home we sat down at my dining room table where Kevin proceeded to interrogate me on what part of the process this is for me in my new window search. After telling him that my husband is performing a lot of the research, he then told me that he is wasting HIS time and would not give me a quote on new windows nor would he tell me about any of his products he had to offer. I told him that my husband and I would consult with each other on the consultation and his response was that he did not want to ARGUE with me. There was no arguing going on. The meeting lasted no longer than 15 minutes. There was no time to even start arguing. He ended the conversation with, 'I would like to do business with you, if you make another appointment to talk with your husband...' I couldn't wait for Kevin McCann to leave my home and never come back. If any of my friends or family ask about window companies I will be telling them about my bad experience. I recommend to others to read the other yelp reviews (especially the not recommended reviews) to really know how this company operates and communicates with others. Terrible customer service. Back in 2010, I wrote a (5-star) review after a window install and 3-years later, these windows still look as good as they did on their installation day. Excellent installation of an excellent product. It is a competitive world out there and things change... when we needed to have upper floor exterior replaced in our bedroom (think BIG window), we bid out the job. And again, we went with McCann. Product: Very happy with the originally purchased triple-pane Pella windows with built-in shades, We wanted the same in dual opening French Doors. This appeared, AND TURNED OUT TO BE, a fantastic, solid product. It looks like we hoped it would. The expertise offered during the selection phase made wading through the numerous options as easy as it could possibly be. Labor: Everyone has been easy to work with, no high pressure sales pitches or scare tactics. Throughout the process, everyone (product selection, estimate, installation) showed up on time. The room was cleared as much as could be (big water bed in the room). I watched while the install took place (looking for tips/techniques) and am ecstatic with the quality of work done (e.g. some wood rot was found, dealt with). We had used McCann to install some replacement windows a few years ago, and we were pleased with the results, so we decided to use them again to instal a large patio door. We are very pleased with the door now that it's installed. The reason I'm not awarding a higher rating has everything to do with communication. When we first contacted McCann, I had to leave a message for my guy, Kevin, to call back. He never did. i had to call a second time, which wasn't good. He apologized, explaining that they just got a new person and she wasn't yet properly trained, or something to that effect. We decided that, despite this initial bump, we'd still allow them to bid for the job. They were fairly expensive, but we knew they would do a good job, and they handle Pella products, which we've been happy with, so we went ahead and awarded them the job. The next communication problem occurred in arranging the time for them to install the door. On the day we chose to do the installation, I thought I made it clear that we wouldn't be around until after 1:30. We received a written notice shortly thereafter confirming the date and time, except the time they mentioned was between 11 and 1, or thereabouts. Then, on the day of installation, they showed up at 9am. It was only because our plans for that day had changed, (unbeknownst to them), that we happened to be home then, and so we were able to let them in. Otherwise, they would have made the trip for nothing, and we would have had to reschedule on another day. I weigh good communication very heavily when I'm rating a company. McCann really needs to work on theirs, so that it will measure up to the quality of the product and the work itself. read more

I contacted McCann this fall because I wanted a local business. I had three quotes and picked McCann. We have an old two story Evanston home that had beautiful but old and leaky original windows on the house. We were covered with old thick vines (and some birds) they had to deal with too. We picked the fancy Pella windows for the first floor and a notch cheaper for the second floor to save a bit of money. The installers arrived early and, like a military team, worked at a 100 miles an hour right out of the gate. They replaced all 28 windows and a door on the first day of what was to be a 3 day project. The weather was a bit rainy and muddy so it was not the best conditions. They came the morning of the second day to put on some shutters and do a little extra clean up - the place was spotless inside and out. I was very impressed. No third day needed. They covered the inside of the windows while working so there was no mess inside. My garden is against the house and the installers where very respectful of the plants and items on the deck. The windows look great and we are very happy with the service received. They did what seems to be a very clean and tight job - our house was drafty inside and we can tell the house is sealed up tight to wind and it's even much quieter inside too. Great job McCann!
