Cheers to the weekend. Do you want to take a mini-vacation to Puerto Rico #tgif #puertorico I'm going to tell you how, without having to leave Maryland. Set your GPS for the Puerto Rican Distillery, located in Frederick, MD. Almost a year ago, Angel and Crystal Rivera, a father/daughter team open a craft rum distillery. They are warm wonderful people, they play the sounds and offer the hospitality of Puerto Rico. The rum is a traditional moonshine called Pitorro. The one sold at the distillery is 100 proof alcohol, so watch out it's strong. For $5, you can do a tasting to discover your favorite flavor of Pitorro. * They have 6 different flavors of Pitorro with 1 season flavor, 3 cocktails, coffee and merchandise. Check out their website for exact details. They usually host a Puerto Rican food vendor but you have to order ahead. So have you started planning your road trip? Eat and live deliciously, always.

I'm not sure how I found out about Puerto Rico Distillery (PRD), but probably from the 'gram. I was really excited and started following their progress and they ended up opening during the pandemic, so I couldn't visit as soon as I would have liked. However, I've now made it to their distillery twice and am a huge fan. Angel and his family produce high quality, delicious rum. When you do a tasting, you'll get background on pitorro (Puerto Rican moonshine) and the stories behind their products. Also, the proceeds from the tastings go to a different community organization each month. I enjoyed both of my tastings, one led by Angel and one led by his wife. Both are so friendly and very knowledgeable. They are also happy to answer any questions on Puerto Rico and visiting the island. You can taste both the single spirits and the cocktails. My favorite rum is the almond Clandestino, which is absolutely delicious. It's a sipping rum and I sipped it every night for a week after I bought it, so I had to hide it. I really enjoyed the El Morro cocktail, as it is passionfruit-based and quite strong. PRD makes getting their product fairly easy, at least in Maryland. They are at various farmers markets and offer delivery and curbside pick up, and you can buy both the single spirits and the cocktails. They are working on expanding into DC and Montgomery County; you can also buy their rum at the Coast Guard Exchange in Centreville. The tasting room is brightly decorated and quite welcoming. They also have a Puerto Rican food truck every other week. PRD does an excellent job with distancing and cleanliness protocols. If I lived closer, I would definitely visit more often. I cannot recommend this distillery highly enough. Whether you are visiting Frederick or the surrounding area or looking for some unique distilleries to check out, you'll be happy you visited PRD.

This is a great experience I only wish there were more tables and food! They sometimes get a catering company to come out but you have to place your order and pay 2-4 days in advance which is a tease for people that don't know ahead of time It is super cute and family run. It's a very clean distillery and prices are great for tastings. They make most of their money through sales of bottles so to support them I'd suggest you buy a bottle which the only problem will be picking a flavor

Some of the bottles available for purchase. Delicious.

We visited the tasting room at Puerto Rico Distillery in Frederick. The tasting flights were very reasonably priced. It took me a little while tor my palate toget used to the rum but once it hit it was amazing. They have a great selection of Puerto Rican Style infused rums that are mademon the premises. The owner was very nice and knowledgeable. Great products. We sent home with some coffee flavored rum and I may have to head back for the almond flavors.

While it's unfortunate to open a business during covid, the location was clean and i had an incredible experience. I loved that they took their time to explain and guide us through the menu and give some back story to the names of the drinks. We tried everything and it was amazing . The pours are small because of #rules but the drinks are mighty and full of flavor. Make sure to have a designated driver! I can't wait to see this business flourish further... maybe incorporate or collaborate with another small business for some munchies.

I've let to go inside because obviously Covid 19. So this review is on limited interaction with the people there and more importantly the products they offer. I ordered online for curbside pick up. And my phone goofed, but this didn't stop them from realizing it was me. It might have being my fantastic charisma, but the young female co owner popped her head out of the door and asked me to confirm my order. She went back in to pick up my order and brought them to my car. I have to say how happy that she was friendly and more than happy to have a quick chat. Even though the virus was around us. She asked me to let them know about my feelings about the flavor and quality of the run. After I mentioned that I'm very much a rum type of person. I'll be sure to do that... The rum? It's fantastic! I've tried runs from all over the Caribbean, America and South America. This has to be among the best tasting I've tried. I love Jamaican rum, but this goes beyond if you're doing the traditional. So full of flavor and yes it's strong. Very much a siping rum. The standard clandestine I've yet to try. I've bought it, but I've yet to taste it. As for the cocktails? Strong and full of flavor, a great idea of what the rum can be used for. Obviously one will choose their own cocktails in time. But they really do show off what their products can do. I'll be back. They've got a new customer in me.

When I found out there was a pitorro distillery in MD, I decided I had to go. It was a bit of a drive, but well worth it. The staff was so much fun. They tell you the history behind pitorro which I thought was great. I will be back for sure!

Awesome selection of Puerto Rican Rums. I went this past weekend and had a wonderful taste experience. They specialize in making Pitorro here in Va! My favorite was the traditional & the coffee flavors. They do not serve food, but the tasting is worth it. It's not a stay and drink long term type place. I'm from Springfield, Va and took the drive cause it was worth it. Came home with a few bottles to keep the tastings going! Lol

    Two tastings

Was really surprised at how great the pitorro (rum) was from start to finish. I believe we ended up trying all of them plus the seasonal chai blend. Honestly was the best tasting I think I've ever had at a distillery and I've probably done about 15 or 20 at this point. As a southerner with a sweet tooth, I was probably built to enjoy this stuff since it's made with molasses and brown sugar in a lot of them, but overall was extremely happy to be introduced to it. Staff was super friendly, informative, and attentive. The tasting was cheaply priced and the proceeds benefit a different nonprofit each month, what is not to like? We left with a bottle and two of the seasonals and will absolutely be coming back. Totally worth checking out!

    A Distillery.

Our friends went camping at Yogi Bear and it rained so we ventured out for a distillery and came across this amazing place for rum tasting . Angel the owner was amazing and very knowledgeable about the history of rum . Also has delicious cocktails to taste . All drinks were so good we bought 3 Rums coffee my favorite and Almond as well and 4 well Made , very cold cocktails they sell . To our surprise Angel invites a catering service who has prepared Puerto Rican food . Frozen Pastille s to sell and personal trays ready to eat . Call and ask ahead for food though already has orders placed for pic up .

Countryside and rolling hills on a windy road, what isn't awesome about that? Decent amount of beers available, I believe 13 in total. I don't do seltzers or any of that so I can't count those. The beers themselves were good. Tried a flight that included an IPA, cream ale, a sour, and a lager. I then tried the blueberry sour in 16oz which was my favorite. The food was excellent too. Burger, Mac and cheese, potato salad, and the biggest pretzel you've ever seen. All very good. The location itself wasn't bad either. Seating indoors with a few TVs, an upstairs over 21 only spot that has TVs, dart boards, and a foosball table. I always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in Frederick. The ambiance is like a dim light basement, a clean and moody aesthetic with bar seating and couch seating. It does get loud in there and I think that's because the sound of everyone's voice just bounces against too many hard surfaces. Nonetheless it's super cozy and my favorite spot!! The drinks are all fantastic. They make their own organic distilled liquor and on top of that they away have seasonal drink selections. I go there wanting the same drink but also try something new and it never disappoints! They craft their cocktails with love and care and really put effort into a delicious well rounded cocktail. This is my go to spot for gin, I'm not even a gin drinker but I am now because their gin is amazingly smooth. I can't say enough great things!

The inside is simple, with the occasional nod to ships at sea, which is easy to do if you have lots of barrels for aging spirits. There is a little bar where they make great cocktails rather quickly. They have spirit-forward as well as citrusy. Never had one I didn't like. The spirits (as of this writing, still available at some local liquor shops) are fantastic. My absolute favorite is the Lady Anne white rum. Some white rums are barely better than rbbing alcohol, but this has character and depth and makes a fantastic mojito. RIP Lost Ark!
