As always, the parking here was easy, even though it has street parking. We arrived on a Thursday night, around 8 o'clock, and it was already starting to pick up. The bar was getting full, but there were still a few tables left to choose from. This is a dive, similar to Poe's Pub, so if that's not your scene, don't come here. That said, we really like the character of this place, even if it smells a little funky upstairs. It adds to the character and charm, or at least, that's what we tell ourselves. The same bartender as usual (still don't know his name) helped us. They do have a sour beer. It's not as fruity as I like, though, still passable. (Seriously, Patrick Henry's, y'all need to order some from Texas and Oklahoma sours for the real deal; Martin House Brewing Co. in Ft Worth does them so right). Anyway, we ordered the goat cheese bread appetizer (warm apple butter, goat cheese, and sunflower seeds = immense pleasure). For entrees, I grabbed the Hot Chicken Pizza (hot sauce and pickles!), and my partner went for the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. There was so much food that we had leftovers, as usual. They heated up well in the air fryer and were nearly as good. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. I will admit, it does look slightly seedy, but the food here is magnificent. The pizza was thin, crispy, and full of delicious flavor. I swear, the chefs here know what they are doing with their menu. It's simple, yet elegant. The appetizers are simple, yet they easily compete with The Brooklyn and Pinky's apps, for example, which are more affordable and in a more relaxed environment. Do yourself a favor and get the goat cheese. It sings. The customers here are chill and interesting, and the bartender is calm and cool; he never seems out of sorts, even when the bar is full with a line out the door. I wholeheartedly recommend Patrick Henry's. We have been here twice now, and the service and food have been excellent both times (Sept 2025, May 2026). read more

We took our staff out for a little holiday celebration. We started out at one place in Church Hill and had to leave before their actual opening. So our plan was to go to LPH to continue our festivities, but when we got there, they said they couldn't accommodate us because there was only one bartender and 20 of us. Someone in the group said, "Let's walk around the corner to Patrick Henry's." Surprisingly, I'd never been here. It turned out to be the perfect place for our group. We were directed downstairs to the pub area. The bartender was fantastic and never appeared to be overwhelmed. There was plenty of room for us in the pub room off from the bar. Everyone enjoyed their drinks and the coziness of the pub. I didn't get a chance to eat any food, but it smelled good and I will definitely come back to try it. read more

Hidden gem? I guess if you want to call it that - this place is authentically dive-bar Richmond. Essentially a remodeled old home turned pub with a nice historic feel. We sat at the bar and it was actually busier than expected - affordable drinks with a hometown feel. He let one of them finish a beer before refilling it, and then freshened up another locals Diet Coke. He ignored 3 other new people that walked in after me as well. Okay this place is easy to miss if you don't know it's there. The bar itself gives off hole in the wall vibes, you wouldn't know it's there unless you live nearby, since I had passed it several times before realizing it was a pub. The pub is pretty dark and it's not super fancy, so I think it's best for pick up orders for food since it's kind of dark inside, or going for a couple beers in the evening. The bar tender who is usually where is really nice. That said it was pretty good - I love their pickle and ranch pizza. It's very salty but so worth it if you're craving salty things like pickles! My wife and I just walked out of Patrick Henry Pub and took our business to Liberty Public House solely because of the shockingly rude treatment we received from the upstairs bartender -- a brunette woman currently working behind the upstairs bar (as of May 8th around 5:30 PM). We walked in and politely explained it was our first time there and we were just checking the place out. The space is a bit confusing with multiple levels and a patio, so I asked a simple, reasonable question: "Where's the patio?" Her response? "Where do you think it is?" Excuse me?! That's the kind of condescending tone and attitude you might expect from a DMV worker having a bad day -- not someone in the hospitality business. We were stunned. Never in my life have I been met with such hostility and sarcasm from someone whose literal job is to be welcoming and helpful. We were planning to stay for a couple drinks and some food -- likely spending around $80-$100. Instead, we left immediately and spent that money elsewhere. And trust me, we weren't the only people in there looking bewildered by her demeanor. If management cares at all about guest experience, they seriously need to reevaluate who they're putting behind the bar. That one interaction cost you not just a visit, but any future business from us -- and anyone we share this story with. There are too many great spots in Richmond to waste time being mistreated at this one. read more

We've only ever dined on the patio at Patrick Henry's, but it's such a lovely patio and it's dog friendly, so we love to come here with Frankie. The patio is accessible from a door in the fence on the 23rd St. side, but it sticks, so if they're open and you're coming through with dog in tow, it might need a little extra push. The service has always been super friendly and spot on. They have a part-time resident that might stop by if you're on the patio named Paddy, the very cute and friendly cat that lives there/in the area. The food is great. The classic burger is my favorite. We've had the pulled pork wontons (great), and the quesadilla (greater) for starters and recommend them both. Definitely a great neighborhood restaurant that you should absolutely try. read more

I'm not a celiac, but the gluten-free cauliflower crust is top notch...good enough to order instead of the regular wheat crust. And toppings are yum. Upon walking in, the lighting was very dim and there were just a few people sitting/standing around the bar. We sat ourselves at a dining table. And was brought a menu by a guy behind the bar. During the entire dining experience this same guy took our orders, made our drinks, and brought the food out. I didn't catch his name but he appeared to be the only one there unless there was a cook in the back. He was so nice and provided us with great customer service. Honestly, I judged a book by its cover, and didn't expect to receive good customer service based on past experiences I've had in southern pubs. Would definitely recommend. I can't speak to what hanging out inside the Pub is like, but we really enjoyed having a beer and dining on the dog-friendly patio with our pup. The back patio is such a beautiful and tranquil little gem in downtown Richmond! We started with the PH Quesadilla, which was even better than expected. Who knew apple butter on a quesadilla could be so good? I had the fish and chips and my husband had a burger--both were very good. The pub cat, Paddy, even came to say, "Hello." After an afternoon of revolutioning against the British occupiers, what's better than popping over to the pub for a pint? I don't believe that this pub has any relation to the famous Patrick Henry and his "Give me liberty or give me death" speech that was delivered at the nearby church, but I'm not going to fault them on that. Sometimes we just like to hop in the car and go! Doesn't matter where to, just as long as it's an adventure. One of those adventures landed us here. And now we can't wait to go back! Finding a place for lunch this day was almost exhausting. Between Covid and the pouring rain we struggled to find a place that was Covid friendly without outdoor dining only. Enters Patrick Henry's! This place is in an old colonial home, and decorated as such. I loved the farmhouse tables and the fireplaces in almost every room. The church pews are my favorite! They're taking all the normal precautions, so if you're worried about safety or cleanliness this place is for you. Staff have masks, everything's being disinfected behind people, and the spacing of parties is better than any place I've been. The staff was great! Food came out quick, waiter was on top of any needs we had. I had the club, pretty simple, but that's what I was in the mood for. I also had the potatoes as a side. Those were awesome! They both were, but those potatoes hit the spot! My husband had fish n' chips and couldn't shut up about them. Our friend ordered a whole pizza to himself. It had the good pepperonis! To say the food was just good is an understatement. And the portions were huge! We all had leftovers that we ate later. Oh! And they have drinks with a great beer selection! I remember way back when this pub was Acappella Restaurant. Now it's a really cool cozy pub. The architecture is amazing, and you can just imagine the history this place holds. If these old walls could talk. I love the separate rooms, dining areas, the intimate bar, and the stairway leading to a larger dining hall. The fireplaces add to the rustic feel as do the low ceilings, rafters and doorways. The heavy wooden tables seem like they've been there for centuries! In a nook in Church Hill, this is a perfect spot for good food, drinks and nestling in for a great night out. My husband and I were taking a drive downtown, soaking in the scenery of Libbie Hill, when we passed this hideaway, and reminisced about its previous ownership and decided to stop in for a bite. Crouching thru the doorway, we stepped back in time. It was a little odd to see a tv mounted in the small Colonial dining room, but a March Madness game was on, so we adapted quickly! Our server greeted us promptly and was friendly. I ordered off the kids meal and she was like "no worries"! I really was in the mood for a grilled cheese and tater tots... and it was delish! My hubby ordered the Caprese sandwich with tomato/basil soup which was fantastic! I tried them both and I must say, the best tomato soup I've ever had! I'd go back just for that hot, thick, comforting, tasty soup! I'd love to go back and try more menu items and enjoy another wonderful evening! This pub rocks! read more

Very good service no to good food. I ordered a pineapple & avocado salad the avocado was mixed with some kind of spice that tasted as macormick straight from the bottle and it make it look terrible, the cabbage was rotten . I pulled both things of the salad and ate the rest, my friend ordered a hamburger he said it was good but the fries were a different case they were a little burned and tasted the same way. We wont be back but we tip the waitress well because the service was excellet. read more

I am so sad that a mistake is going to make my friend super sick. He cannot eat gluten and was give a regular pizza and will probably be traped in bed for a month in pain because of it and so covered with rash that he will look monstrous and not want to leave the room. Stopped in for a beer and some pizza with friends and I must say....very surprised by how good this pizza was. Maybe I wasn't expecting much because this is a pub and not a pizza place... but wow. I got the hot chicken pizza and it was awesome. One of, if not the best, pizzas I have had in Richmond. Chicken was crisp, the pickles snapped, cheese was just right, and crust was tasty and well cooked. Straight to flavor town I went. Would whole heartedly recommend. Will be back to try some of the other pizzas. Was also pretty good cold the next day, which is document-able criteria for me. read more
