It truly has everything and is completely beautiful. There is tons of parking and it usually isn't too busy. They have yurts, tent camping, and drive in camping. All gorgeous spots. There are 3-4 amazing river access spots. The river has deep spots, shallow, fast, and slow, making it perfect for any speed of swimmer to hang out. There are usually people in floaties and on paddle boards enjoying the area. The view from the suspension bridge that connects the two sections of the park is stunning. It reminds me how much beauty Washington has and gets me choked up just thinking about it. There are endless cool trails to explore, all leading to fun little adventures and scenic views. This is the perfect park to just spend a day getting lost in nature, swimming, having a picnic, or having a leisurely campout.

There is a sign that you must have some feet in between groups. You'll get to the trail which is at your right. Watch out for bears with cubs. It is a nice trail with pepples at the beginning. Not a good idea for strollers but still can have a great time at the lawn. Easy parking near the baseball field. Good way to spend family time on a weekend.

A Seattle Gem with Breathtaking Views!…read more Discovery Park is hands down one of the most beautiful spots in Seattle. My husband grew up in Magnolia, so he took me here for a hike last weekend, and I was completely blown away. We explored the south side and walked the Loop Trail. The path is well-maintained and offers stunning panoramic views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. It's hard to believe you're still within the city limits! It's the largest park in the city, so there is plenty of space to enjoy nature. Whether you want a serious hike or just a peaceful stroll to see the water, this is the place to go. Don't forget your camera--the scenery is post-card perfect!

From an urban park perspective, the only other experience that comes close for me is when I moved to the Old Town Manchester neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia, and had Belle Isle in my backyard, which offers access to hiking, large flat rocks for sunbathing, and whitewater rafting on Class II, III, and IV rapids on the James River right in the middle of downtown. Okay, back to Discovery Park. I spent an entire day exploring the park. I started by ordering a carryout lunch at Damoori Kitchen, which is now closed according to Yelp. I then walked to Discovery Park and hiked the 4.4-mile Discovery Park and Lighthouse Loop. A map for that trail can be accessed using a trail app. The loop trail took me through several ecosystems such as coastal meadows, tidal beaches, forest groves, sand dunes, and vast stretches of thickets with wild berries. Once I finished hiking the loop, I walked back to Damoori Kitchen and caught a rideshare back to downtown Seattle. Highlights from my Discovery Park adventure included eating lunch at the tidal beach, exploring sea cliffs, seeing jaw-dropping views of Mount Rainier, hiking past the West Point Lighthouse, and experiencing the sights, sounds, flora, and fauna of the park's majestic landscape.

On the park's property are also several sponsored YMCA activities, but those were closed during my visit. The parking lot at the NW corner is reasonably sized. We easily found parking. We later found another lot on the SE corner, but it was blocked. Entering the park, we see a picnic area adjacent to the sports court. The sports court is a single space usable for basketball and tennis. Walking further, we find the dock to the lake. The water is murky with a few ducks. There weren't any motor boats on the lake, which made the lake feel serene. The lack of water movement also yielded some fantastic reflection photos. During the later hours, we saw several men setting up their equipment to fish. A sizable playground is great for the kids. A short trail walk led to a second picnic area. The trail is a short loop walk with basic trees and wild growth. The walk is very well maintained and paved, even if not spectacular. The only "hazards" are tiny, speedy humans on bikes/trikes and yippee dogs claiming their territory. They added some excitement to a short stroll.

Parking can get tight especially in the summer so I usually park in the lot closer to the Safeway as there's plenty spaces there. There's bbq spaces, as well as a playground, so there's something for everyone. Always some kind of lovely scenery whether you go in Winter or Summer which is nice.

When I visited, there were cyclists, roller skaters, people flying kites, numerous dog-walkers and even a pair out walking their pet goats!? Totally amazing atmosphere. On clear days, there are great views of Seattle and surrounding mountains. On lucky days, you can spot orca whales! Keep an eye out especially during the fall and winter, or if you're particularly committed, there are several social media groups dedicated to posting about whale sightings. You might just want to bring along a pair of binoculars whenever you visit...just in case. There's street parking that's a close stroll to the beach, and one public washroom that I could find.

It was sunny. And there was beach volleyball happening. Vendors setting up to sell fruit cups and horchatas and other crunchy treats. Alki Beach Park is a true beach destination! Public bathrooms, public showers to rinse off sand, and plenty of room to camp out if you want. I came to see the lowest tides on this day. In fact, Alki Beach Park was the first beach I frequented when I first moved to WA. Today's visit was truly magical though. The low tide revealed smaller pools and seaweed. Clambs squirted water out of their exposed holes. I saw a crow get squirted in the face! I am not a sunbather but if you are, this is your spot. I recommend NOT sunbathing, but you do you boo. I do recommend coming here. Great views of downtown Seattle too. Parking goes far along the waterfront. Loads of police were patrolling too. Be careful and enjoy nature! SYOY!
