MTS put a granite top over my sink & work area. Horrible job. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible Horible. Dropped clue on my beautiful Amish made cabinet doors. Ruined. The coffee bar area has a curve in it and when the counter top was cut it was measured wrong, where it curves it the cut ends do not match. The main kitchen counter top by the sink has a cut in it, that was pieced together, and 1 side of the cut is higher the the other side, allowing dirt to collect in it. I complained. Some kids were sent to evaluate it & they said that was within normal standards. Great, that got them off the hook. I had gone thru Lowes. DO NOT GET COUNTER TOPS THRU LOWELOWES. Local cabinet shop outsourced my quartz fabrication and installation to this company. Came out and laser measured my vanity and shower. Laser folks. Laser. First delivery was so off couldn't install the shower pieces. They installed the vanity by beating it into place with mallets and scarring up the walls. Fast forward almost 2 months they return with new shower pieces, still wrong. Shower threshold is approximately 5/8 too short wall to wall. None of the joints are flat, fabrication reeks of poor workmanship, poor tooling, poor quality control. Now local cabinet shop is trying to "oh well I guess you should talk to the supplier bc we don't really know how this stuff is supposed to be fabricated blah blah blah". Of course, no one from McDermotts is calling me to follow up. Avoid at all costs. Pay more, use local, wait longer. It's worth it. read more

Worst countertop installation job that I've seen in my remodeling career. Terrible communication at the office, that delayed my job. First installation date , they had no calls and no show after I took time off from work. Finally get hold of scheduler, oops we forgot to tell you they can't make it today. Now I don't have a functional kitchen for the weekend! They show up Monday, and the epoxy seams look terrible, full of gaps.they destroyed my sink base cabinet too. Now I'm waiting for a promised replacement after a month. And now I have a bait and switch for my installation appointment after being told a certain time and I scheduled my work time based on that. We purchased quartz countertops from IKEA and they contract with McDermott as the fabricators and installers. This review is based on my interactions with McDermott only. Once our order was placed through IKEA, McDermott called a day or so later to setup the laser measure appointment. I missed the first call and got a voicemail. I promptly called back but I didn't hear the caller leave a name. So after calling several times I was finally able to connect with a project manager to schedule the time. They are very thorough explaining everything and provide a follow-up email to cover the details of the call. Two days prior to the measure they send a reminder email with all the details and 30 minutes prior to their arrival day of they call you. The person arrived and the measurements went as noted in the call/email. It didn't take very long and I was asked questions pertaining to the tops, plumbing, cabinets, etc. A template is created with all the information pertaining to the job. After the measurements and template are signed off on, it goes back to IKEA to adjust any pricing based on the accurate measurements. This part of the process was slightly frustrating but that would be in a separate review of IKEA. McDermott called again to schedule the installation of the countertops. Communication was a little easier this time with the name of the scheduler and a prompt same day return phone call. I was surprised how quickly they were able to come install the tops. Same mentioned previously they followed up with an email and information on what to expect for installation. Before the installation date I did have to call to confirm if we were responsible to level the cabinets once our old countertop was removed. We did the demo ourselves and they did inform me we were responsible for leveling. If they did it the project manager explained it could be expensive. Luckily we were able to handle that. The day of installation I received a call 15 minutes prior to their arrival. Upon the installers arrival they managed to back down our driveway and run into a tree, breaking a branch...not a great start. But the two guys came in and started on the work right away. They explained the process and took care of a couple things on the cabinet tops so the installation would go more smoothly. After everything was finished and sealed they went over care and maintenance of our tops. The whole process took about an hour and a half. Overall we are very pleased with the countertops! The timeframe from purchase to installation was relatively quick, a total of 7 weeks. Communication could have been slightly better in beginning and I wish the installers didn't break our tree but we got our new tops. read more

Here it is, the installation day, and they stood me up, again. Four hours past the install time, and I'm told they arbitrarily made the decision not to come to my job site. We ordered granite counter tops through Home Deoit and utilized McDermott for measuring two dual sink counter tops and frost off process was good. Had the sinks on-site and faucets for the measurement and all good. Got a call stating installers would be there from 1-2 on a Thursday. So had our old counter tops and sinks/faucets removed for them prior to their visit. The. We got a call at 8:30 that day saying they are running behind. New window 3-4. 4:30 came and no one arrived so called the company and oh truck broke down. So wasted time being at home vs work. So we asked when we're they planning on coming back and they couldn't tell us. Called Home Depot and the contact there got a hold of McDermott and got a new delivery the following day between 1-2 after noting we want it done asap. We had a plumber lined up and need to know. Well that Day came and we got a call stating they were behind so now 4-5. They did arrive finally and install went well. Counters looked great but left the sawing mess of the cabinet for us. Fine. Plumber came to install faucets and the counter tops were measured wrong and the sink underneath was flush against the faucet holes so now faucets we bought won't work because nothing to attach it to. And most faucets are the same. So Called the company and home depot and they said hmm. Let me talk to maintenance group. Our plumber in the mean time found back up plan with a faucet that may work which has a long enough base and bracket underneath to potentially make it work. McDermott said they could rip out and make new counters but we said no let's try to make it work with other faucets but those are an up charge and think they could pay for them for our inconvenience of no water in either bathroom for a week and half and running all over to find four of the same model faucet. We got an Email not even a Phone call that said are not at fault for the more expensive faucets and they said you can use a spacer to install your original faucets so McDermott will not cover new faucet costs. But they said they will pay for their plumber to come up and do the install with our original faucets using a spacer. Unreal frustrated and nothing but a nightmare. I asked if they will guarantee they won't come loose after a few years. Brand new counters and sinks and have to have an alternative because they don't know how to measure. Let's pray the new faucets work. Stay tuned. Our plumber coming back for trip #2 tonight. Do not use these incompetent people. read more

I ordered a countertop from McDermott through Home Depot. after a long wait, I was given a time window that the installer would come to measure. After I too the afternoon off work to be there, in the last half hour of that time window I was called and told that the installer could not make it. We set up a a new time. Took another afternoon off work, but did get it measured. three weeks later we set up an appointment for install. I took another afternoon off work to be there in the time window. In the last half hour of the time window (almost 5 pm), the installer called to tell me he had magically found a scratch on my top and that he couldn't install it. More than two more weeks of waiting for the new top to be fabricated we set up another appointment for the install. I took another afternoon off work. At 4:30 I had heard nothing from my installer so I called the shop. i was assured that they had talked to the installer and that he would be late, but that he was definitely coming. 15 minutes later the installer called to say that again, mysteriously, the countertop had a scratch in it. Do they not look at the tops before they load them? is there any quality control? Long story short, if your installer is running late and they're going to have to work past 5, they're going to magically find a scratch so they dont have to work late. read more

Recently I purchased corian counters with Home Depot. They used McDermott Top Shelf as contractors to install. I followed the prep list sent me by McDermott. The day of measurements I had my new sink with the template as a guide. This was never looked at by the guy taking measurements, nor the actual installers. The day the installers arrived they were here just over an hr. on a Wed. On Fri. I had another contractor here to install the new sink and faucet, and to reconnect the disposal, etc. During this process, he learned the sink cut out was not correct therefore the sink would not fit. He said he would correct the corner cutouts (cost me an additional $150.00) , so I told him to go ahead as I wanted my kitchen back in order. Did not plan on waiting til McDermott would set up another appt. to come out and correct. And of course, as this was happening I contacted McDermott and the gal told me this would affect my warranty and they would not offer a refund for the extra work. This was not the only issue, the fellow who did the caulking around the backsplash accomplished this in minutes. As you can see in the photos, the glue settled behind the backsplash causing it to pull away from the wall leaving a nice gap. So much for their quality in work. As they say, Buyer be Ware when it comes to this company. read more

The customer has been rough from the start. We ordered countertops through Home Depot and at the first measurement appointment which we waited a week for, they said we could not use the dual sink I bought as an under-mount sink even though it can be used as one. So they just left and said they would follow up to schedule a new appointment. No one followed up so I called, was told someone would call me back, no one did. So I called again to make an appointment and we have to wait a week and a half now for a measurement appointment. We already paid about $1600 for these countertops and I would expect someone to reach out to me and set something up ASAP instead of me following through on the process. read more

I ordered new granite counter tops through Home Depot... they use McDermott Top Shop for the install. The counter tops haven't been installed yet.... But, so far communication has been absolutely horrible! They came to measure on 9/2, and I was told they will then contact me to schedule an install. I never heard back. I finally called them on 9/16, left a voicemail... no one called me back. Called again on 9/19... again left a voicemail... no one returned my call. I called again on 9/20, and finally spoke with someone. Then, I FINALLY got a call back from the scheduler.. she advised that the drawings needed to be approved by Home Depot and that they JUST sent them late afternoon on that day!!!! It took almost 3 WEEKS for them to send these drawings to Home Depot for approval... and only after I called SEVERAL times!?!?! I was told I should have my counter tops sometime in the beginning of OCTOBER.... now, it's looking like end of October, or early November! Absolutely ridiculous!!! Zero communication, and horrible customer service... I am not impressed at all. I sure hope these counters are absolutely flawless once installed! We used McDermott Top Shop by default, as they are the only countertop contractor utilized by Home Depot, when we ordered a new bathroom vanity. My initial contact with them was positive and informative. I was given information about install turnaround time and told when to call them to schedule the measurements and install. That is where the "good" customer service started and ended. When I contacted them, after install vanity date was scheduled, they did not stand by the information I was given (countertop install usually occurs 5-7 days after vanity install). Due to COVID, the vanity took about 14 weeks to arrive, McDermott when called to set up countertop install was 2-4 weeks out. Day came for the tech to do final measurements and (after I called to confirm appointment) was called an hour later to cancel appointment as tech was a no show for work. Person I spoke to McDermott was rude, unprofessional and did not care about what I was previously told. Measurement appointment was rescheduled and countertop installed. The measurement tech and installers were fabulous, professional and knowledgeable. I would consider using McDermott only if they retrained their customer service staff. I also asked Home Depot to consider offering more than one option for countertop contractor. read more

I debated going with four stars but after the hassle they get a solid three. We built a home and it appears McDermott's is the go to for granite. We made an appointment, picked our slab, and waited for our install date. I feel the prices are extremely reasonable and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the installation itself. They installed granite in both bathrooms and did a good job. Because we got those on their 'blow out' list we saved some money. I was worried about the seam in the kitchen but the gentleman installing it did a great job. Then... then came the island. There was a huge gray patch job that stuck out like a sore thumb. The more I looked, the worse it got. There were a total of 9 'fill' spots. It looked absolutely horrible!!! We ended up back there trying to pick a new slab using the same piece we initially chose from. MSI blamed McDermott's, they in turn blamed MSI for the poor fill job. Meanwhile I just wanted what we paid for. The entire slab was riddled with these gray spots. I told them I didn't want a new slab with the same issues. They ended up calling MSI and a rep came to view the piece. They offered us $250 to keep it or get a new island. That's a no brainer. We dealt with Julie throughout the process. I have no complaints, but her hands did seem tied and she didn't have answers to our questions. A lot of time was wasted with her going back and forth. The newly selected granite is perfect. What small Pitts the slab had were filled with clear, not duct tape gray. The two guys installing did a good job and I have no complaints. Had they not installed an island that looked like it had duct tape all over it, they would have gotten five stars. Overall, I'm extremely pleased that they fixed the slab, and did a good job installing. read more

By far the most disorganized company I've encountered. It took 3 weeks and some prodding (Home Depot) to speak to someone to set up an appointment. Funny thing was the person making the schedule couldn't make an apt???? This went on for 3 more weeks and finally set up an appointment to MEASURE (not install) a door. Three days before the appointment they called and needed to reschedule. DONE! DONE! AND DONE! Avoid this joke of a company- shame on Home Depot for contracting with them! read more

I went to Home Depot and purchased counter tops/ sink/faucet. Mc Dermott was the installer that was assigned to install. I had an existing dishwasher. When new tops were installed there was no hole for the air gap. I called, and a week later they sent someone out to drill it. I was told that the plumber who did the initial connections would be back to hook it up as I paid for the entire job to be done correctly. I have left 3 messages with them and no call back. I now have water leaking under my sink into my basement from the temporary connection. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I told them on my last message that I was going to leave a bad review and still no call back. If you buy from Home Depot, tell them that you dont want McDermott to do the work! read more

This is the first review I have ever publicly posted online. I unfortunately feel the need to do so after the experience we had with McDermott Top Shop. The level of miscommunication this organization has between it's own staff is absolutely awful. I was overpromised what installers could do, to then find out the next week at an attempted install that what I was told that the McDermott installers could do, actually couldn't be done by them. My contractor and I had two phone communications with Jeff P. (Field Service Supervisor) on two different occasions. Both times promised things that weren't delivered on attempted install. After both the 1st and 2nd attempted installs, Jeff denied that he stated said work could be done by installers. He said this about two different matters on two different occasions. My contractor heard both conversations, and was extremely frustrated at the miscommunication between installation teams and the Jefferson office. Melissa S. Who was my project manager was impossible to get in contact with after the slab inspection at the Jefferson plant. During my process I had a total of 5 visits from McDermott to my site of installation. 2 to measure (One measure and one remeasure), and 3 for installation (2 failed attempts and installation). Even with all these visits, my "dream project" was a nightmare. I wasn't able to get any outlets in the backsplashes, even though I paid the fee for the cutouts. Therefore my countertops have zero outlets. The previous countertops had 2. Next up, McDermott was unable to provide cleating to the back wall of the countertop. The back wall is a concrete wall. When paying close to $5,000 for a project, I would expect this to be taken care of. I was told by Jeff that all cleating would be done by McDermott staff. They visited the site 2 times, and clearly were aware the wall was concrete. I ended up having to hire someone else to do that installation. McDermott expects to just throw your countertops on and walk out. I expected more for the price. My countertop ended up having a seam, when I was told it would be one solid piece. The seam piece is only 10 inches. When the measure tech came, he said it would be no problem being one piece. Alexa D. in the office made a scheduling error for installation, causing me to have to completely take the day off of work, when I specifically asked for a morning appointment.... they came at 3pm. Everything that happened for miscommunication was all internal for McDermott. After reading other reviews, I can see this has become a severe problem in recent months. One employee of McDermott that is absolutely outstanding is Robert M. (Sales and Marketing Manager) He is easy to talk with, and works hard to solve problems. After speaking with him about my issues with communication, things seemed to get better. Robert is the owner of an outstanding cabinetry company who I will be doing business with for my next project. If you need help, call Robert! My granite countertops look great. If only I had outlets, and no seam, they would have looked just how I wanted them to be. The project still wouldn't have been worth it regardless though due to all the miscommunication issues. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere when it comes to your countertops. My experience is one that shouldn't happen in any line of business, but especially not with the price tag you are paying with McDermott. If you want a project done right, without any stress, and for the employees of the company to work FOR you instead of AGAINST you.... McDermott is the exact opposite business model for you to hire for your project. Look elsewhere for your project. It is hurting Home Depot's reputation that they recommend this company. Not very happy . My granite is beautiful we purchased the antique Labrador the colors are superior. But the longer we had it the installation was beginning to open at the seams. And fall on one side of countertop. Called to have them look at it and was told they would charge me for the poor installation repair. NOTE: The installations from Top Shop only hold up to max 3 yrs. If I could have given this company -5 starts, I would have. The entire process from beginning to end has been awful. We purchased our countertops through Home Depot in Ankeny, IA and spent over $6500.00, which they require you pay up front. It took McDermott Top Shop 3 months to get out and measure for countertops. Then, 6 weeks later, they finally sent out a crew to install. This was 1 of 3 times we had to pay a plumber $220 to completely unhook our sink underneath and pull the faucet. In the process of pulling our countertop out of the truck, they knocked off a big chunk on the edge of the largest piece that goes around my sink. They said they would have to come out another time and replace the broken piece. Another month and they send out second crew with new piece of granite. This is 2 of the 3 times we had to pay a plumber to come out and unhook the sink underneath and pull the faucet for the 2nd time (all at a cost of another $220.00.) This time the piece they sent out was not beveled on the edge as ordered, so it did not match the entire rest of the countertops. The installers attempted to talk my husband into "keeping" the bad piece, even though it did not match the rest of the kitchen, or the other piece of counter it butted up next to. He promptly said, No! I called Top Shop, and they put me through to Javier, who supposedly takes the complaints. He assured me the third time they would make sure everything was as ordered and would include the "Chip Minimizer" that we had paid an extra $250 for. So, another 6 weeks go by and they send out two men to install the two large pieces of granite again. Guess what? When they pulled the granite out of the truck, the "Chip Minimizer" that I had paid the extra $250 for was not completed. They said they would have to take it back AGAIN and have that done if I wanted it. I promptly said, NO THANK YOU. Just install what you have. I promptly called Top Shop in Wisconsin, and they put me through to Amy (supervisor) to see how I am going to get my $250 back. So far no call back. We are eventually going to have our bathroom countertops installed, and will NOT be using Home Depot or McDermott Top Shop. Every time they come out, it is just a big hurried situation, and they don't care if it is done right. I highly recommend anyone that they do not hire this company for anything. Needed countertops to match a Corian countertop in the adjoining room and ordered from these folks. Very professional and clean installation. Critical when working in a finished home, rather than an empty home without all other finishes in place. Appreciated the contact to both set the appointment, confirm the appointment and then call again when they were 30 minutes away. Price was the best I could find for Corian. read more

They were used to install patio doors for my home. The first time they came, the door was slanted, the original trim on the door had a nail sticking out that the installer just hammered down thinking I wouldn't see, the trim was reattached over metal brackets which caused it to crack, the caulking was very sloppy, and there was a draft coming in. Oh and the trim that was purchased for the job that did not get used was taken by the installer without asking. It took two more attempts to fix the issues. By the third, I was so fed up that I accepted the quality of work done. They do not send out a new installer to fix the issues. I would never recommend them to anyone which is why I'm sharing my story with you. read more

Our experience was bad from the start, starting with Home Depot who sub contracts this company out. Original quote from Depot was given to us on "the high side". NOT! We were told from Top Shop it was $1,100 more than depot told us, even AFTER we took out a small cupboard. After waiting a week for a call back, I called Top Shop to see what the cost, estimated timeframe for installation etc., they said it was emailed to depot the same day he came and measured...call depot. Home Depot....nope, we never got anything from him Ok..3 weeks later, installed granite countertops, but the guys cracked it in 2 spots, and fixed it. I said we could live with it if $$ was knocked off... sure...$250. NOPE! I want brand new then. They were going to send someone the following week, but their guys were going to do the plumbing. NOPE! We paid for a plumber, we wanted a plumber to come back. In that case, we were punished and had to wait 2 more weeks. We agreed to let Top Shop guys unhook plumbing, but want a plumber to reconnect. Guess what? The guys didn't even know how to turn the water off. Had to get an emergency plumber out. Soooo... our estimated finish date, as of July 9, was July 29. Finally finished September 12. It cost their company more than it would have if they would have settled on a decent discount for us. I'd never recommend this company. Now, it's on to the tiled backsplash read more

Took 2 weeks to fit me in their measurement schedule and another month to get an install appointment only to have them not actually installed due to a scratch in the middle of the main piece. Took another 1.5 weeks to remake it only to forget a piece back at the shop. Had to wait for someone to find it and then drive it to my home. Was told i would be compensated for wasting my time only to be told "you have your countertops don't you?" Ha yeah i paid for those and you to install it correctly the first time. We ordered what we hope will eventually be a beautiful recycled glass countertop through Home Depot, who subcontract to these guys. We don't have the countertop yet, but so far the experience with McDermott has been a total thorn in our sides that is seriously delaying our kitchen installation. When we paid, HD instructed us to call them to measure only when we had our cabinets installed, and that it should be a couple of weeks after that when they install them. So we called McDermott when we were instructed, and it took them nearly TWO WEEKS to come out and measure. Seriously, it should not take that long to fit in an hour, in order to move a multi-thousand dollar job along. Then two days after measuring, they called to say they do not have the materials for our counter, so the 1.5 weeks they originally told us it was supposed to take to fabricate our cabinets has turned into 3 weeks. What was going on during the TWO WEEKS they were not coming out to measure our cabinets but that they did already have our money? Who knows! Certainly not putting the materials for our job on order. Basically dealing with this company has put our kitchen a month behind schedule, during which time, we have no kitchen sink because we have no counter to attach it to, and I am extremely irritated about it. There must be a better way. Shop around, unless you enjoy doing your dishes in the bathtub. read more

Horrible customer service. Never again. They refuse to work with you to accommodate your schedule. Believe me I am home alot, but I had to try to change my schedule to accommodate them or they would delay another week. They did this with the measurements, the viewing and the install.
