In a somewhat gritty, light-industrial warehouse-filled area, beneath the overhead tracks of the F Train's I stop, is not a lot of anything when it comes to grub. In fact I counted 2 places within a multi-block range... a corner deli with a myriad of fast food choices, and McDonald Ave. Diner, 2 doors down. (Note: there are two large food markets nearby, should you want to whip us something from scratch). I chose the latter place, McDonald Ave. Diner, hoping for something a tad more healthy/tasty. And it is a shiny/clean contrast to the well worn neighborhood. The menu is pretty typical diner fare - 2 pages of breakfast stuff, an assortment of sandwiches, heroes, burgers, noodle dishes, grilled items and pockets of Italian and Mediterranean favorites. With such as range, it's hard to know what they might specialize in. Likewise, it also makes one wonder if they might have too much variety. Example: they had a number of seafood dishes, but seeing how I was the only customer during a weekday lunch hour*, I kinda questioned the turnover of aquatic inventory. Price wise, it's fairly inexpensive, with most meals coming in under $10. And you get what you pay for. It's not bad... just very plain, basic, diner fare. Guy Fieri isn't going to be pulling up anytime soon to try the "previously frozen hamburger patty with lettuce on a plain white bun." As such, I would file this under the category: "not worth a journey, but OK if you're in need of some non-special diner grub." * oddly, I was the only person there at 1 p.m., but when leaving at 2, it suddenly filled with locals.

6am googled closest diner open and found this little gem. Staff was very professional and warm. She even offered me coffee twice with a shy smile. Decor is pretty new. I ordered a Spanish omelette which was yummy. Will definitely be back and make this a routine spot.

Definitely hits the spot. They also make Chimichangas that are delicious. The tres leches french toast is a nice treat as well. The service is great. They deliver on time or early. They're pancake and French toast selection for example. They also have other items you wouldn't normally see. For example I ordered the fried pork belly, with rice, and maduros. Best thing about this place is that it's relatively cheap and affordable. So it's hard to complain. My biggest complaint is the wait time. It feels like they prioritize delivery orders over anything. Took a while for my food to come. Speaking of, the fried pork belly was pretty good. The fat was delicious. The rice was fine and the maduros disappointing. I was t a fan of how they cooked it. I also got an ice chai latte and that was good too. Overall it's a good spot to have a cheap decent meal. Whether that is breakfast or lunch if you're in the area. Definitely worth ordering if you can get it. I'd eat here again but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

Update - Today we ordered for delivery the brunch burger and challah French toast with berries. The star of the show was definitely the French toast. Slightly overdone on the outside which provided a delightful and slight crunch and the inside had the traditional custardy texture. I believe we found a wonderful new brunch spot.

The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. My kids are happy with their chicken poppers and quesadilla while we enjoy the more adventurous stuff. The place is named after Jacques Cortelyou's famous 17th-century map of Manhattan, and somehow that history feels present without being gimmicky. It's just a really solid neighborhood spot that makes you appreciate Ditmas Park. Cortelyou Road has a lot to offer; The Castello Plan is a great option to grab a tasty bite while exploring the neighborhood. Extra point for a killer music selection the night we visited, featuring Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simple Minds, Eric Clapton, and more! ------------------------------- [1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/ditmas-park-halloween-house-brooklyn
