    Apple Crumb. apple yum.

Peter Pan is almost always #1 or #2 on any guide to NYC donuts, beating out the gourmet and trendy places. They have an incredible assortment, decent prices, great service, street cred, and old school vibes. But I think they have more hype than flavor, based on my selection. I tried their famous yeast-risen Honey-Dipped donuts, which are fried, immediately impaled on long wooden dowels, and completely baptized in a warm honey-glaze bath, allegedly giving them a thin, shatteringly crisp sugar shell and an incredibly airy interior, but it felt like a supermarket donut. I liked the apple crumb, but the bavarian cream and honey dip were not worth two trains.

Likely this Peter Pan has been bought out. The jelly stick was listed on the sign but they had no idea what it was and said they don't make them. They were young, energetic, and a hard working bunch, Eastern European sounding . They are fierce in their added charges at the register- the likes of which I have never seen in the coffee shop/ donut world. First & Last visit. Too mich of a culture clash. How I was treated here would not fly or last One minute in North Shore Nassau -.But here in Brooklyn this is a bustling coffee & donut shop with all seats taken and a line for take out. Donuts & coffee both good - Good. Experience a no go. They were pre- occupied with added fees. it's all they mentioned with each donut picked. It went like this - "A dozen doughnuts please" and I began pointing at quite regular looking donuts (all in the same rows) or so I thought. " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( coconut creme) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( boston creme stick) hm ok " thats a dollar extra" ( french cruller white icing hm ok " thats a dollar extra" (french cruller chocolate icing) hm ok " Two small coffees also please " HM are those the small?? I kid you not they were TINY kid sized The cup size I have never seen before. They must special order them for samples or something. Ok so "They are wayyy too tiny so - medium please" Out came the typical small sized cup - Hmm so ok. Let's ring and go I'm thinking. Next the woman is struggling with a paper by the register trying to figure out the coat of this dozen donuts (plus five with her added $1's) - then more struggle and I said " it's a dozen plus $5" thats $29.50". "Oh no you don't have a dozen". Apparently the extra $5 disqualified my "dozen". I know what you're thinking but No- no special donuts from some other case - no coffee rolls etc - i'm a NY'er and know a donut from a special roll etc. You need to buy five more for a dozen. "Oh? No, I have a dozen and am paying you five up charges as you stated." Next thing she is ringing the donuts individually Plus the extra $5 Which makes NO sense. But gets her another added $5 or so. Why would they keep quoting me add ons to my dozen if no dozen existed once you added a Boston creme etc. She raced to the manager. The Brooklynites thought ne a mean old lady for saying you're overcharging me'. The manager flew over - a young man huffy and emphatic that the five very ordinary donuts that were $5 more converted my dozen to a different price per donut. Then they said something funny to me - "would you like me to take those out and give you regular donuts?". No. (See update for more) " No those are the ones I want " but you just over charged me - I'll take them. But you are overcharging me. Thank you. Holy mackerel - just glad to be on the way out WITH the donuts of course- I was not furious or anything- and the donuts were never at risk- I'd not walk out on the donuts - My advice is to be more transparent in pricing and not deem very basic donuts special donuts - making your customers feel ripped off.- Better just to charge more for the dozen. And.. like other shops put any supposed special donuts in a special donut area - like coffee rolls, big fritters etc. That's how it's Typically done. This is New York! You can't pull that here. This is a place where people pay $6 for a good cookie. They are not cheap. Don't be weird at the register. And those cups Come on - are you KIDding me - pun intended. I left holding on to my wallet a lot tighter. And that is not NYstyle. I felt like some war was on and was ready to start stacking change. I'm also half Italian! So for me - This was one weird cheapskate experience. So that's my review. --------------------Update - Follow up to reply ------------------------------- Hi Demetrios, Thank you for replying. I generally stay positive on reviews. Like I said it was the aggressive way I was treated that was the no go for me. What I left out of the review was worse! For instance - your counter person began reaching to open the box saying she was taking out donuts to replace them with others. She grabbed the box and actually began getting ready to fling donuts around. It was totally weird. Had she actually not stopped trying to untie when asked I would have not taken them. It weirded me out. You say you keep the business the same since 1993? Well where is the Jelly Stick? A New Yok classic. So much for keeping it the same. Its on the sign over the counter and you don't make them any more .. so It is Not the same as it once was. Got ya! jk. And no.. no no.. I am Never mean or rude... just willing to say something. Ok so the coffee.. if its really $1 I get it.. its a nice gesture to your customers... they had something like that in Montauk.. a tiny beer for $1 at a place called Liar's Saloon. So ok.... right on you. Update /3

This place reminded me of my local Donut shop where I grew up in Brooklyn. Always packed and bustling with people getting donuts to go and those sitting counter style. The staff move quickly so even if there's a line it moves super quick. The donuts were your basic donuts. There weren't anything special tasting about them other then they were super packed with sugar. I had an apple crumb and a cinnamon roll and both were great, but I wouldn't travel for this.

I stopped by around 11 AM on a Saturday morning, and despite it snowing like crazy outside, the shop was absolutely packed. I went specifically for their famous sour cream doughnut, but since they were already sold out (get there early!), I had to pivot. I ended up with an Old-Fashioned Glazed and a Sugar Raise doughnut. I usually favor a yeast doughnut, but the Old-Fashioned here might have just converted me. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside - a truly classic cake doughnut. The sugar doughnut was also fantastic, hitting that simple, nostalgic sweet spot. All in all, both options were a hit and I'll be back to try the sour cream donut. PS Don't forget cash!

Visited mid-morning on a weekday and although the inside was fairly full...there wasn't a line outside. There were only about 5 people on the line inside, which went very quickly. Lots of interesting and delicious baked goods. Prices were very fair compared to other similar donut shops. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Cash ONLY...so plan accordingly. Lots of metered street parking along Manhattan Aevenue.

A shop that deep fries their donuts. Thank god! I can never understand Manhattan's love for doughy baked donuts. It's like biting into a dense loaf. But I digress. Peter Pan is worth the visit. I've tried a few of their offerings in the past, like their black and white cookie (delicious), Boston cream (tasty!), marble glazed (delightful), and maple glazed (one of my favorites). In my recent visit, I tried their apple fritter, which I liked, and their cinnamon donut, which wasn't my preferred flavor but was good anyway. I came during Thanksgiving weekend, so there was no line, and I was able to snag a seat at the counter. The staff was friendly, and it was easy to catch their attention and get the check. I've been here a few times, so I think it goes without saying that I will be back here again!

Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 9 Value: 9 Overall: 9 I still remember my first time visiting this donut shop around a dozen years ago after foodie friends from Brooklyn brought over a box of their goodies to my house a month earlier. Ever since then, I always stopped by Peter Pan whenever nearby. First of all, what a beautiful old school shop that really takes you back in time. Such a fun place for a family to take their kids and sit along the funky counter area for a sweet treat. The lines are always long, but it moves quickly and the servers are friendly/helpful. The feeling when you walk into the shop is exactly the wholesome image you would imagine back in the 1960's. Visiting with a few friends over this past weekend brought back some great memories. Though the donuts are no longer $1 each (last time I was here it was $2, now a bit more), the quality is thankfully still exactly the same. My favorites are the Old Fashion, Classic Cruller, Original Glazed, and Boston Cream. Still haven't tried the popular Red Velvet. Next time!

Very small, crowded. Dining-in means someone is likely standing right behind you in line for their to-go order. Very crowded and the line is chaotic. CASH ONLY. This is inconvenient as most people pay with card or tap-to-pay. There's no work-around here. I ordered a chocolate croissant which was mid and tasted pre-packaged. I also ordered the red velvet old fashioned munchkins which were amazing! I wish they would have asked if I wanted my order warmed. They didn't. Donuts are served cold. The flavor was good though. I would go back for the red velvet. I was told to try the blueberry. Maybe next time.

TikTok made me do it! While scrolling on Tiktok, I came across a video for Peter Pan Donut and Pastry shop. It just so happens that we were planning on a day trip to NYC a few weeks later so we decided to fit it into our itinerary. AND BOY I AM SO GLAD WE DID! We planned to visit the donut shop in the afternoon since they were open until 7pm. When we arrived, we did have to step out to grab some cash since it is a cash only restaurant. When we came back we grabbed some donuts! The bakery has a very retro vibe and gives off being from the 50s still since that's the year that it opened! Since it was the afternoon, a lot of the donuts that we wanted to try were sold out so I would recommend going earlier in the day (before noon) for the best experience. We ended up getting the honey dipped glaze, white cream coconut, apple crumb, toasted coconut, and the blueberry buttermilk. All of the donuts were so delicious! You can tell that they are handmade and obviously why they sell out so fast! We loved the texture of the blueberry buttermilk, the cream inside of the white cream coconut, and the apples inside of the apple crumb! We are so glad we stopped by to grab some donuts! it was so hard to not eat them all on the way home! My Fiancée thought she remembered the bakery in a movie because of the uniforms the staff wears looked so familiar and she remembered it was in the Spiderman movie! So that was awesome to be able to connect the bakery to the movie since its one of her favorites! Definitely go grab a sweet treat in NYC if you're in the area! you wont be disappointed!

Old school donut, pastry and bagel shop. A long time neighborhood staple. Great place to grab some sweets and always full staffed and service with a smile.

The origins of the sour cream donut are murky, but the two places I've had the pleasure of finding this treat - Detroit and Greenpoint - both have strong historical ties to Poland. Perhaps there is some linkage with the Polish recipe for paczki, a fritter of similar composition. I found the version at Dutch Girl Donuts on 7 Mile Road a bit more subtle in terms of the glazing flavor, but Peter Pan's is still very good - and most of all, I'm thankful that sour cream is still on the menu in the first place.

I REALLY wanted to love this place because all the vibes were there: high top counters packed with locals drinking black coffee, joint was cash only, and shelves packed with all the classic donuts. Went around 10AM on a Wednesday and all the options still looked available with only 3-4 people ahead of me in line. Unfortunately, the donuts themselves were a let down. I opted for a classic glazed (their version is with honey I believe) and a french cruller. The most important thing I'm looking for in a donut is the texture - super fluffy and so soft that it's pillowy. These did not live up to those hopes; both were just a bit stodgy, though they didn't feel stale. Flavor was just okay, pretty much just sugar front and center, but nothing to write home about.

    Bavarian Cream Donut
    Christine L.

Absolutely incredible old-school donut spot with my favorite yeast donuts in the city. The Bavarian Cream donut was fluffy with tons of decadent custard and powdered sugar- my perfect donut! Also tried the maple and blueberry cake donuts which were both good as well- great w coffee. Not too bad of a line, and it moves quickly. Cash only though so be prepared! Some seating inside but mostly a grab and go type spot.

When's the best time to come when they're still piping hot?

We got an Iced Americano, a Mortadella Scallion Pancake Sandwich, and a cocktail called Lovers Quarrel. The drinks were honestly pretty good and very much needed for the weather. The cocktail had this airy tart taste that perfectly matched the vibe of the drink. The sandwich itself was good, however it was extremely oily. The actual taste of the sandwich reminded me a lot more of Indian Omelets than Scallion Pancakes, but regardless, was still tasty, just wish it had less oil. They typically bring the drinks and food over to your table if you decide to sit at a table, which makes it a lot more convenient.
