After being out in the area my Dad started grumbling about how he was hungry. When Dad wants something to eat, you find some place to eat. I wasn't in the mood for going to a sit down restaurant, so fast food it was. Yes, before I get further into this review, this is the infamous McDonald's that so many people wrote (and it appears to be that they are still doing so) bad reviews. So if you see a review with reference to pest control or cleanliness of the restaurant, bypass them. Most of those reviews are from people that are from out of state, probably never been to Pennsylvania, and most certainly have never been to Altoona. Not a dis, just a fact. When we got here, I have to say that the parking lot was really confusing. Even though this sits on the main drag through the area, it abuts a residential neighborhood. I was trying to circle around the lot to head back to the front (it is one-way) I didn't think you could because only looked like the drive thru was the only lane. Not to worry, there is a road, more of the size of an alley, that you can make your way back up around. This location has indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to dine inside. Ordering wise, I chose the kiosk, tapped away at the screen, got a table number and then headed to find a seat. Dining room was decently clean even though it was busy with people. Another note on the dining area, there is a lot of space taken up for things that shouldn't be there. There is one small alcove that has two tables, but not for customers, they have a bunch of stuff there for people to apply to work there, and possible they do job interviews there. Then there is the area towards the bathrooms, large enough to accommodate several people and great enough if you want to be antisocial. However, this area was kind of off limits. You know, the area where said incident took place. The staff seem to have taken up roots here. At the end of my meal I did head back here to use the restroom and almost every table had something on it. Laptops, paperwork, general nonsense items. That way no one could sit in this area. I understand, but if it is a busy and full dining room, customers should come first. As far as the food, the order was almost correct. The prepared items were definitely right, but when our food was brought to the table there were no drinks. When we brought that up the employee asked if we ordered from the kiosk. Obviously we did, why else were you delivering the food to the table, with the table number on it? Also, that shouldn't matter if we ordered at the kiosk or not, either fill the cups in the back and at the least give us our cups. When I did go fill our cups after finally getting them, that was a hassle. We both wanted sweet tea, but the two containers were both nearly empty. It was like I was standing there waiting for the tea to be freshly brewed. For the remainder of the meal, nothing special, it's McDonald's. I still am not the biggest fan, but will make do. I am also fairly sure this location does not warrant the low, fake reviews it currently has. read more

I'm annoyed. I ordered food online to pick it up and the place was packed which was expected for lunchtime. I walked in and was waiting patiently when workers came from the back and went to go get a drink break. These workers weren't paying attention, and they smelt awful. I understand not everyone can afford deodorant but when you get hired at a job, hygiene is an important topic they discuss. I ignored it and continued to wait for my food when a kid with special needs came from behind the counter to get a drink. He stood there biting his fingers in front of the fountain drink machine he looked back and continued to bite his fingers in front of it. I was pissed as I too was waiting to get my drink which wouldn't be a big deal if I hadn't already waited for a total of 35 minutes. He didn't wash his hands at all either which is disgusting. I too work in food and at a restaurant and I understand they were busy but fast food is intended to be quick. I could've sat down at a restaurant and got my food out quicker. Not to mention all the workers always have a terrible attitude. I am an incredibly empathetic person and can understand how stressful it is but I am extremely disappointed in that establishment. read more

Came here last week and was disappointed. While I'm not a fan of McDonald's to begin with, some of their restaurants are decent. Not this one. The food here was very greasy and underperforming. The Big Mac I got was so sloppy and cheap, and the fries were basically drenched in oil. Shamrock shake was nothing to write home about either, the quality getting worse each year Additionally, the service was very sub par. Rude staff, looked like they were ready to quit on the spot. Definitely not the kind of service I got at other McDonalds establishments. Fortunately, they did let some staff go who were upsetting customers. The ambiance was also not the greatest. They recently had a rat problem at this building, but it seems like they've taken care of it. However, the floors are still extremely sticky, bathrooms are a mess, and there's so many stains everywhere. Despite having low hopes for this McDonalds, I was still left disappointed. The email I sent Corporate... I'm writing to report an unacceptable experience at your Altoona location on 407 E. Plank Rd. on August 24th, roughly between 6:15 and 6:30 PM. The service was chaotic, with long waits and order mix-ups. When my order was finally addressed, an employee named Matt asked to see my receipt, which was on my phone. When I declined to let him take my phone to the prep area, he rudely refused to assist me further and directed me to another employee. He also tried to tell me I placed it as drive-thru, which I told him I did not, and he later retracted his statement. He refused to give me his name, which I later confirmed through other means to be Matt. Two other black male associates also refused to provide their names and instructed others not to help me. I told them I would just describe them to corporate, to which one said "good luck with that." One of these black associates also sarcastically told me "bye" as I was going to fill my drink. When I told him not to speak to me, he continued to do so. As I was leaving, a white female employee with long brown hair, wearing a yellow shirt and black hat, yelled "bye, bitch" at me in front of my children and customers. I'm assuming it was since I had told the other associate not to speak to me when he said bye. The manager on duty made no effort to address or control the situation. Everyone seemed miserable, lazy, and not interested in serving customers. It should be embarrassing to McDonald's that when the customer is unhappy, their associates make them even unhappier. This experience was entirely unacceptable. I urge McDonald's to investigate this incident and ensure it doesn't happen again. I would appreciate a follow-up on this matter. I will not be returning to any location until this has been addressed. I will also post about this experience online, so others know to avoid the associates at this location. -Fin- If you visit this location, be ready to deal with some disgusting people. All the bad reviews must have made a difference because we had a great experience. There was someone on the floor cleaning at all times, and someone came around our table to make sure everything was good. We got quarter pounders which my husband said was made really well. Do not advertise that this store is open 24/7, when it's not. This is the second time I attempted ordering through DoorDash and being informed that there aren't enough employees to take orders. On tuesday 10/22/24 I got in the drive through line at around 4pm, sometime around 4:15, there were 3 cars ahead of me, I reached the speaker. At 4:25 I gave up waiting for someone to take my order, after 4 or 5 cars in the other lane had their order taken. When I got up to the first window and indicated that I had been unable to order the blonde man at the window said "yeah it's one of those days, you can drive around and order inside". I was already running late so decided if I was going to get food I would have to do that. The inside was chaos, employees yelling at each other, the counter employee talking to a friend ignoring the lobby entirely. Sometime around 4:35ish I was finally able to get my food at move on. I understand it is difficult to get employees, however, this location has gone steadily down hill. If I could give a negative star on this location, I truly would. The reason is as follows. Even though the woman that took the payment for our food was nice and polite, her hygiene was less than desirable. I understand that somethings cannot be controlled, in her case, though it was a very large blister on her lips in which she touched after taking my husband's credit card and then handed it back to us with the same hand she touched the blister with. That not only is disgusting but it is a transmission of a contagious infection. - See herpes simplex virus for more details. This resturant should not be allowed to let workers who have open sores on their mouths, to work in the food industry or at least, untill the sore is completly gone . Was traveling in the area and wife wanted breakfast for dinner so I did a map search for McDonalds. This one popped up, joked with my wife it had a 1 star Yelp rating. I've never seen a McDonalds that came close to one star. Well, now I have! Touch screens are disgustingly dirty and sticky. I told the staff and they said that they have someone come in to clean and they probably don't have the right chemicals to clean the screen. Let's see....some warm water and a damp cloth, wipe until clean? The fries were cold and limp(insert joke here), my Big Mac had the pickles on the side. My wife's Diet Coke was un-carbonated. Picked up a to-go order so didn't notify them of the poor food quality. Floor was sticky,also...that's just gross but matches the kiosk screens for texture.
