If the Drive Thru line is really long and your child is hungry, DON'T walk in as a customer!! If you choose NOT to use the Kiosk to order, you're going to be ignored whether they're busy or not!! It's as if you DON'T have a choice , you have to use the Kiosk to order !! That's not right!! After standing at the counter for almost 25 minutes, I was asked," did you use the kiosk to order?" I replied," no I didn't and I don't want to , it takes too long!" Then, I waited again!! When she finally reached the counter and register, she just looked at me , didn't say a thing, nodded her head as if to say," ok, order!‍ I ordered 3 things and she messed up my order!! Why?? Because she had a stink attitude and didn't care enough to listen to my order!! Why? All because I didn't use the Kiosk?!! Her manager came forward to fix my order and refund my debit card. She was nice and tried to explain that they're busy and trying to hire. I understood but still, am I not a customer? Am I only a customer if I go through the drive thru or use the kiosk? The saddest thing is , my little 7 year old said," if I was working at McDonalds , I would say, Yes ma'am , what would you like to order?" I couldn't believe she said that!! Seriously?? Who trained her to speak so kindly ? Who trained her to treat customers like they truly matter? My little girl also said," the other lady was nice but the one with the long eye lashes , had a " baddie " attitude!! " So, my take on this bad experience is, Every customer matters , whether you're using the kiosk or not!! We shouldn't feel forced to use the kiosk or feel like , you just wait until we are good and ready to help you!! It's tradition that whenever we travel someplace new, we'll check out the McDonalds menu, to see if there's something unique or weird. As expected, you can get Spam or Portuguese sausage on several items, on both the breakfast and regular menu, if you're into that sort of thing. Just be warned: the lobby was never open during our entire trip, and the drive through line was not only atrociously long, but atrociously slow as well. Not worth it, even for the novelty. read more

In early November, I had to fly into the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport in the wee hours of the morning, as I had to do a job at a local credit union - the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union to be exact. What does one do when you land on the Big Island @ 6:30 AM??? Yo, I'm hungry and need my morning cup of Joe!!! What do I do??? McD's to the rescue gangies!!!! Lucky for me, there are at least (3) McDonald's restaurants located within the Kailua-Kona area on the Big Island. One McDonald's restaurant is located inside of the Kailua-Kona Walmart store. There is another fairly new McDonald's restaurant that is located in the Kona Commons Shopping Center area. And finally, probably the oldest McDonald's restaurant that's been here for ages, as I've been going to this location for many years when I used to commute to the Big Island for work. This particular McDonald's is tucked away in a business/ hotel area, as it's just a 2 long blocks down the road from the Kona Seaside Hotel. The McDonald's restaurant is located on Kuakini Street, which runs one block parallel to Hualalai Road. What the significant of this? Well, the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union is on Hualalai Road (where I needed to go for work), so this particular McD's was very convenient for me, as it was just a block away from where I needed to go. Currently, since we're in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, this McDonald's restaurant is only open for "drive thru" business. They are currently closed for any "dine-in" business..........(just an FYI, if you didn't know this). I'm sure things will change one day, once we get ahold of this pandemic. Placing my food order was easy, as there were no lines in the drive thru. After placing my order for my morning cup of Joe, I saw that McD's was advertising a new product, as they recently started to sell pastries - Apple Fritter, Cinnamon Danish, & a Blueberry Muffin. Something new sounded interesting to me, so I proceeded to order a Apple Fritter to go with my morning cup of Joe. I got in & out of the drive thru line quickly...........no hassles at all! Drove one block down the road to my work site, and proceeded to drink my large cup of morning brew, and eat my overly sweet Apple Fritter in the parking lot of the credit union, since I was waiting for the credit union to open. What can I say about the grub??? For you folks that don't know this...........McD's runs a promotion for any soft drink, or coffee (any size) for just $1.00 (in Hawaii). Can we say DEALAGES Yo???!!! The coffee from McD's is not Philz, Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, or even Peet's Coffee caliber, but I must say McD's makes a pretty decent cup coffee in my honest opinion, and the price can't be beat (especially if you're on a budget). Of course when you go to a McD's, the convenience of their locations, as well as their business hours can't be beat either, as it seems like their always open for business! Glad this particular McD's was convenient for me, and I would easily come back here should I ever need something fast if I'm working in the area. read more

really like McDonalds. I like their specials and they're extremely crunchy fries they're nice and soft on the inside. I like their generous amounts of sauce for their nuggets. But one thing I totally can't understand is why can't these people count to 10? I mean really it's only a 10 piece nuggets and more often than not the count is low. If you are simply bad counters than the number should sometimes be hi, right? But it's never hi it's always correct or short. At least that's my experience. Here's another one. I've got nine pieces in one box and 10 in the other. Am I going to drive back just to get one more piece? Of course not. Coming from CA, we were excited to try the spam and rice with scrambled eggs breakfast that they serve all day.. Mc D's in Kona did not disappoint! There was however, a homeless man who entered the establishment who did not order anything but just sat there for a few minutes and then left. He did forget his shower shoes or "slippahs." I give 5 stars for this Kuakini location. I ordered online via their app, waited at their designated pickup zone and waited 6 mins to get my order. Yesterday, I went into McD and ordered the same items via their Kiosk and found that their are extra free deals via their app but not on their Kiosk. For Online orders, I waited the same amount of time for Kiosk orders so it does not make a difference how you order. This place is almost identical to the McD outside the US such as Japan, Hong Kong and Shanghai with their Kiosks. I never thought I would ever rate a McDonald's. My experience at fast food restaurants is usually the typical result of you pay for what u get. For the past year this place has been seriously a changed place. When I request for fresh fries they never hesitate to accommodate my order. The wait time is always worth it because u know they are making it fresh and yes the fries are still hot and the hash brown in the mornings are crispy and not soaking with oil. I appreciate the service because the employees are always kind and courteous especially when I make a special request. They messed up our order, after repeating it 2-3x. They also put tomatoes on a crispy chicken sandwich. Normally it has pickles, they apparently missed the memo. Not today at the McDonalds in Kona. My message to the owner of the franchise, customer service is vital. Increase your efforts on keeping your bathrooms clean. Yes, we are all nervous about COVID, but with good cleaning practices, good hygiene we need to carry on with our daily lives. Putting a sign on the restrooms say, "Restroom closed" is not a solution. I was able to relieve myself a half hour later at my place; however, I have concerns for Seniors and children. Your stores solution of, "walk over to the gas station" is an inappropriate response. My husband and I stopped in at this McDonald's for an early breakfast. Their dining room was open as well as drive through. We had never ordered on the kiosk before. A very kind staff member, Rosemary helped us. She went above and beyond with great service and friendly attitude. Another team member, Jerry, was also very helpful and kind. Reminds me of a ghetto version of McDonald's. The cashier talks to you in English-Hawaiian slang so you have a hatd time hearing her. They are strict with refills here like you must dine-in in order to get refills but this place gets crowded during the weekends so it gets hard to enforce those rules. Restaurant and restrooms need to be cleaned. It seems like they dont really clean it. Food is straightforward, cant say much. read more
