I have a registered online account with the service department. Been using this dealer for 25 years and the maintenance is fine. HOWEVER, recently, the online service account is WORTHLESS. Try to get an appointment. Sign-in--to my account. Everything looks fine. It's me!! , then I try to schedule service...I get "please sign in to your account"....over and over again. No problem, Just call. "Everyone is busy" leave your number, we'll call you back.. NOT. I'll be buying a new car soon but as much as Like Toyota, I'm looking at other dealerships. read more

Driving north on I-81 in separate cars with my daughter early on an August Saturday evening her car (a RAV4) suddenly lost all power over the course of less than five minutes and we ended up on the interstate shoulder as darkness fell. A bad situation all around, as we stood at at the guardrail for an hour. Had the car towed to McDonough's Toyota 40 miles north in Staunton. Filled out a service request, dropped it in the overnight box, and then drove a further two hours home to the DC area exhausted by the experience at the end of an 18-hour day. I didn't know what to expect from the McDonough service department, as I'm not a big fan of dealership service departments and not from Staunton. I ended up delighted, however. Stephanie was kind and helpful when she called me on Monday morning, the diagnosis and repair (new alternator and battery, unfortunately, which I'd assumed) was completed quickly, and we picked up the car on Tuesday. All the ladies we dealt with on the service desk were a pleasure to speak with, completely professional, and they returned my calls quickly after I left messages. The estimate was accurate and the cost reasonable for the work done. I hope I'm never in this position again; however, I'm glad we took to the car to McDonough. All's well that ends well. read more

I can whole heartedly say that I don't encounter service this incredible very often at all. I was traveling from NY to NC with a motorcycle and two cats in tow when a notification appeared telling me to check the hybrid system, stop in a safe place immediately and contact a dealer. I called Triple A for a tow and they could not help me. I called 3 Toyota dealers and they couldn't either. A mechanic from an independent shop told me that I hadn't called all Toyotas and told me to check McDonough. I called and explained my situation and they said that they could take care of me if I could get there. I wasnt sure I would make of but as I drove into the lot, Blaire met me and began right away telling me what they planned to do to help me. I dropped the trailer in the lot. Since my cats were not in carriers I left my car running at the service window which they kept an eye on while their shuttle driver took me to buy carriers for the cats to wait in. I waited in the lobby for about 30 mins and another staff member gave me a diagnosis from the mechanic. About an hour or so later, the repairs were made, reasonably priced and I was out of the door. I was relieved and blown away by the service and care provided. I wish I could only use this dealership going forward. This was an experience that reminded me of the things that are right with today's world. read more

This is a critique for Toyota not the dealership, I just.paid $1164 for a new headlight on my 2017 Toyota Prius. This is unacceptable- the whole assembly had to be replaced rather then just the bulb . What is Toyota thinking?. It was bad enough with my 2007 Prius it cost me over $100.00 then because you had to remove the front bumper to replace the bulbs. I did this 4 times on that car. This is my last Prius. read more

I was buying a used vehicle and had a contract written up pending my approval for independent financing . I was all ready to complete the transaction when the vehicle was sold from under me. No phone call to me to tell me this happened , or that it was pending to happen , or tell me how I could hold it since I was looking first . All they care about is the bottom line .. who gets them the money the fastest . Worst customer service ever . I am a long time resident of the area and will never recommend Toyota again. I just dropped my car off at McDonough for service. Unfortunately this is a re-do as I'm still having a problem with my tire pressure light. Over the years we have bought three new cars from McDonough and always felt good about the experience. The service side has been less enjoyable but I suppose some of that is to be expected. read more

I had routine service done on my truck. One of the volume controls did not work on my audio system. The tech attempted to update the software in the system. The audio system froze up and would not get out of update mode. I was told that the whole unit had to be replaced at a cost of $730 to me. They did not accept responsibility nor apologize. They did not offer to make it right. They would order a new unit at my cost. I am going elsewhere to get a new radio. I will be out hundreds of dollars for their mistake. read more

I like Toyotas but I plan to sell mine because this is the only Toyota nearby. I have consistently had bad service from McDonough over the year because of their incompetent personnel. They left me to wait for over an hour and a half for a state inspection and then let me discover that the inspection had failed because of a faulty cable only when I got out to the car. There was no offer to fix it. Nor did I get any any assistance at all when I went back inside. I guess no one wants to do anything after 4:30. I now have rejection sticker and am told by McDonough I can get it corrected when I come back with the truck fixed, which I am sure will take McDonough another afternoon. read more

I drive 70 miles to get my cars serviced here because they treat you like family, they don't try to pull any of that sneaky stuff like other untrusted dealers do. Accidentally put diseal in my car on the 1st day of a long road trip. Had it drained, but had check engine and hybrid malfunction lights on. Was able to get to the dealership. I don't know whether it's the whole car shortage thing or not but my experience with the dealership was terrible. We put a $1000 deposit down on an order. Today's "orders" aren't special orders like they were in the past. waited two months and inquired where we were on the time of delivery and was told to call back in two weeks so that meant we weren't getting a vehicle any time soon. I had called ONCE before and it was like I was being a nuisance for asking. We had to have a vehicle so we asked to cancel the order and refund our 1K. It was like we had asked for a free car. There is such a demand for new vehicles that this particular one would have sold the day it arrived. Don't know what I am missing here. The sales manager - no name mentioned - was a complete jerk. Instead of being understanding of our situation he not so politely informed us he would refund our money but WOULD NEVER do business with us again. So be it as you aren't the only dealership in the area. You need to sell cars but I don't have to buy from you. read more

I wasn't exactly looking for a vehicle at the time but happened to drive by their used lot and saw a dodge challenger I really liked. I spoke with the salesman and he said it wasn't sold and gave me his lowest price. I told him I banked somewhere and that I would go there get a loan and return. Apparently they work with a different bank send strongly urged me not to use my bank that I have been with for years. I went to the bank and got a loan despite that and called them to let them know I wanted to purchase it and had the check. I told them I had to work in the morning but I would be there by 12. They called me at 10 that morning and said they had sold it the day before. They have done the same thing to my cousin and the same thing to my wife's cousin. The salesman called me back the next day and said he was really sorry and said he would look for another car the same miles and price. I let it go and said sure, but to be truthful after my experience if that's the way they conduct business I wouldn't buy a car from them unless they were the last dealership on earth! Not to mention I left this review on another site and they took it down saying they haven't had a challenger on their site in over a year which is also a lie as I bought a Camaro the next day with the loan which was 3 months ago. Not only will they sell a car out from underneath of you they will also lie about it and call you a liar! Anyone would be crazy to buy anything from this awful car dealership!!! read more

My wife and I purchased a new Prius from Gary at McDonough Toyota. We had a great buying experience without any high pressure sales tactics. They were very honest and upfront throughout the whole process. We got a really good deal on the new car and they were more than fair with their appraisal of our trade in. I told Gary I was in a bit of a hurry and he was able to expedite all the paperwork. That was for sure the best experience I have had at a dealership. I would recommend this dealership to anyone. We went to the sales side of this shop because it looked like our Prius was on its last legs (turns out it was a faulty repair done by McDonough's service mechanics :( ). When we opened the door and walked inside, we could see there were a lot of members of the sales team standing around, but there was not a single woman or person of color. All white men. The guy we worked with for a few minutes, got us a truck to test drive, and he was nice enough guy, very polite, good sense of humor and he knew most of the answers he had about the trucks. But in this day and age we prefer to spend that amount of money at a store that represents the diversity of our community, and on this day, this place did not. read more

First time I ever wrote a review on yelp, but I felt that I had to. My sister whom is deaf, went into this dealership to buy a car to replace her 10 year old car. Being deaf, she does not have the communication skills that most people have. She told me the following. 1. She was not allowed to walk the lot and see the cars. Becky told her this. 2. She told them she had a Rav 4 and wanted another similar car. 3. She told Becky she wanted a red car. 4. They kept her waiting for 4 hours before they told her they had a car for her. 5. They sold her a car that was too large, she could not reach the pedals unless the steering wheel was against her stomach (totally unsafe), and the car was NOT RED. 6. Once again, being deaf she did not have the skills to respond. 7. When she got the car home, she noticed that there were two dents in the roof. Thus they took advantage of her handicaps. Since then she had to sell this car and finally get another one from a dealer in another city that helped her find what she wanted. BTW, she lost about 3,000 on the trade in because of the roof damage. I wonder if I will ever get a response to this message. read more

I was treated like a criminal at this dealership by the finance manager who was rude, disrespectful and tried to rip me off by charging me more interest 4.99% on a loan than Toyota Financial was going to charge me at 2.99%. He yelled at me, told me to get out, told me he did not want my business because I accused the dealership of bait and switch. They advertised a long bed 4X4 Tacoma in Voodoo Blue on their website the day before. I arrive first thing in the morning to look at the advertised vehicle, but I was told that vehicle was sold four months ago, but they continued to advertise the truck. A clear case of bait and switch. When I went to purchase a warranty for my truck, again finance tried to rip me off by charging me $700 more than a neighboring Toyota dealer for an inferior warranty than the one I purchased. I called Mr. McDonough to complain. He acted like he could care less, never offered any compensation, not even a free dinner for this corrupt actions of his finance manager. Worst car buying experience of my life. Avoid this dealership at all costs, but if you must venture into this rip off dealership, see the salesman named Richard, he was marvelous, impeccable and extremely courteous. read more

Had gone to several dealerships that would advertise a certain online price and then when everything was all said and done would add an additional 3k onto the online price in bs fees. I found this car online and when everything was said and done, I not only got it for the exact advertised online price but got 4 new tires included as well! Jimmy was awesome to work with! He did not pressure me as many previous dealers had done. He made the experience very enjoyable and I would absolutely recommend him and McDonough Toyota! read more

My family had a good experience. We were undecided on when/if we should get a new car and what model we wanted, though we knew we wanted a Toyota. We went in multiple times, each time taking our elementary school aged daughter--and everyone was nice to her, which is a major plus for us. Everyone was friendly and I never felt like I was being pressured, or disrespected in any way even though I was indecisive at first to say the least. Our salesman (Jeff) was very patient and not pushy at all. He gave us all of our options--I think I test drove half the cars on the lot! :) He gave us time to decide what we wanted and, as a result, I am VERY happy with our purchase. If anyone in the Staunton area is in the market for a Toyota, I would definitely send them to Jeff! read more

made a deal here after going to steven toyota where they did not offer me anything off besides the $500 rebate and online price reduction off msrp, suggesting i should be "color blind," since they saved me money. only when i told them i was headed elsewhere did steven toyota try to "steal the deal," by reducing the price drastically. though i had verbally commited to mcdonough, but not signed a contract, McDonaugh reduced price further to be the same as steven's final final offer AND, they offered lifetime engine warranty. there $199 doc fee is reasonable. steven's $499 doc fee is not reasonable. one word of advice, bring your best online or otherwise written offer from another dealership on the exact optioned car or truck you want so they can "beat it" by $100! they seemed to doubt that i had a deal that low from Stevens is all. ill update review when i take delivery of car. i would buy any new toyota from these guys over stevens any day! they seem to treat their salespeople pretty fairly too in that they give a guy full commission credit even if he's absent the deal is wrapped up. ps id pass on gap and every other extra in the finance room. UPDATE: toyota tacoma is a great truck, but wish I waited for 0% apr. i bought at 1.9 and was assured that they never have specials on tacomas. they do: just be patient. read more

I purchased a used 2004 Toyota Tacoma truck here. I found out today that the frame is completely rusted and the extended warranty for this defect has expired. Note--this warranty was in effect when I purchased the truck. I am very disappointed that no one mentioned this very common defect (google it) on this particular truck. I am one year past the extended warranty and the truck is worthless. I will be lucky to sell for parts--it will not pass inspection and is unsafe to drive. When my mechanic told me this, I immediately looked at another Toyota truck. Now that I know that is was a longstanding issue that wasn't communicated to me and I have no recourse, I will not buy this brand or use this dealership again. The McDonough website indicates their philosophy 'is all about customer satisfaction" and being a "trusted advisor." Definitely not a trusted advisor when I purchased this vehicle. read more

I recently purchased my new 2015 RAV4 XLE from McDonough Toyota. I dealt with Harry Brown who was great throughout the process. There was absolutely no pressure. The entire experience was a pleasure from start to finish which is not something I would normally say about buying a new car. I had done my home work beforehand and researched both the McDonough deal and those offered by other dealerships. McDonough's was the best. The offer I received for my trade in was right on the KBB trade in value and the discount from MSRP for my new RAV4 was incredible. The dealer processing fee was the lowest of all the dealerships I compared. McDonough gave me the best deal on my new RAV and I know they have a great service department from my prior experience with the dealership. I recommend McDonough Toyota to anyone looking to be treated well as they shop for a new vehicle. read more
