After a number of times visiting Destin, we finally tried MacGuires Irish Pub. The most noteworthy thing about the restaurant was the thousands of dollar bills hanging from the ceiling and attached to every flat surface available. It was startling to say the least. Our waitress was top-notch and extremely friendly and very attentive. She was very helpful and made sure we were well attended to. I had the chicken pot pie, which was good but I did not feel that it was worth almost $23. I mean after all, it's a chicken pot pie. It was not overly large nor did it have an abundance of chicken in it. My wife had the fish, shrimp and chips. The fish was thin and bland. The shrimp had been overcooked and was tough. The fries were as basic as any you could get at any restaurant anywhere. We both agreed her meal was the worst that we had had at Destin since we have been here. As far as food goes, the bright side was the black bread which we really enjoyed. But we only got one small loaf to split among four adults and we're not offered anymore. Total bill for four of us, and we ate at the lower end of the menu with water to drink and some iced tea was $136 out the door. We walked away feeling that we did not get our moneys worth. This place is a bit of a tourist trap. However, if you really want to see millions of dollar bills stapled to the walls and ceiling and eat mediocre "Irish food", this is the place for you. The complimentary buttery bread and boxty appetizer were the only things I actually enjoyed eating here. The bean soup only cost 18 cents, but was not very good. I also got the cockles and mussels but they weren't very good either. The others in my party were also unimpressed by their meals. The rack of ribs was huge, but the quality of the meat was bad and there was way too much sauce on them. The mixed drinks had barely any alcohol in them. The interior of the restaurant was cool to see but not worth having to eat the food. I had a frustrating experience at McGuire's in Destin. At the start of the meal, I clearly communicated that I have food allergies and even reviewed the gluten-free menu they provided. Despite this, I attempted to order literally four different times, and each time the waiter returned saying the kitchen could not accommodate the item. This is after having all my questions answered and told I was getting the food! What made the situation worse was that everyone else at the table received their meals while I was left without any food, even after giving plenty of notice about my dietary restrictions. It felt like there was no coordination or effort to ensure I could actually eat something. In the end, the only thing I had was a tea, and I still had to pay for it. The entire experience was frustrating and disappointing. If a restaurant offers a food-sensitive or gluten-free menu, there should be a reasonable expectation that they can follow through on it. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. I will not be returning. This business could improve by treating a customer with respect. read more

I had the Rueben, which has ruined any other Rueben sandwich I may have ordered in the future. The meat was as tender as the bread! The fries were also delicious. My husband had the Jameson pork chop plate. The salad was bigger than expected for a side. There were 2 big chops that were as tender and flavorful as you could ever want. It came with an Amazing applesauce and he had mashed potatoes as a side. He is claiming this as the best meal he's ever had. We were told we had to try McGuire's Irish Pub, and I'm so glad we did! When we arrived, we noticed they have hostess stands both inside and outside. One thing to keep in mind: indoor waiting space is limited, which could be challenging on a cold night. Thankfully, our wait was only about 20 minutes, and we were able to find a small spot to stand inside. Once seated, we were greeted by Macy, who was incredibly sweet and attentive throughout our visit. Since it was my first time there, I was fascinated to learn that the restaurant is covered in over $3.2 million worth of signed dollar bills. There's also décor on nearly every inch of the walls and ceilings, along with interesting historical details about how the restaurant was founded. There's truly something to look at everywhere you turn. We started with the Reuben egg rolls--stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, and served with Thousand Island dressing. They arrived hot and crispy, and they were absolutely delicious. We were also served some delicious bread with our appetizer. Beware: That bread is addictive!! After hearing Macy's recommendations, we ordered the Jameson Pork Chops and the New York Prime Strip. Both entrées came with two onion rings, and two sides (we chose side salads, mashed potatoes, and fries), and the Pork Chops also came with applesauce. The food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly. The cuts of meat were excellent--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The pork chops were enormous--large enough to share! They were coated in a flavorful whiskey glaze, and cutting into them was like slicing through butter. We ended up with leftovers because the portions were so generous. The only minor downside was my side salad, which had a bit too many carrots for my liking, throwing off the lettuce-to-veggie ratio. The ranch dressing also wasn't quite as flavorful as I expected. Even on a cold night, the restaurant was packed--so I can only imagine how busy it gets in warmer weather. Be aware that they don't take reservations, so plan accordingly. This place seems quite popular around here; besides Irish cuisine, they also have Japanese food and pizza in the same mall under their name. They also have a shop with various branded products and a huge wine selection. We waited about 15/20 minutes to be shown to our seats. The interior decor is quite rustic, with $1 bills everywhere - walls, ceiling, etc. So, if you don't mind probably getting dust falling on you, you can enjoy the drinks and food. We opted for: - Irish Boxtys $13.99 (tasty with sour cream, simple flavor) - Irish potato skin $14.99 (nothing special, the cheese flavor was very strong) - Authentic Irish lamb stew $19.99 (this one was very tasty, the lamb was super tender and the broth very well seasoned). Just obsessed and there is no way around it. McGuire's is an icon and true staple locally. When you come in, they give you a loaf of brown bread because of food and honey with a little dish of butter. Their bread is so damp delicious. I don't normally eat bread at restaurants but this one I just really enjoy. So do my husband and including my dog! They have the best happy hour around. Most recently, my niece had the beer burger, which was outstanding. I got a chicken salad salad, which was pretty good. I will probably order something else next time, but I'm a sucker for chicken salad. My husband has had the corned beef and the Reuben and deeply enjoyed it. We've been here a number of times. We always get good service. That's a tentative. We generally sit in the bar area because it's just fun and lively. And we've all installed a few dollars now to commemorate our experience. My daughter and I came here twice on our vacation and were not disappointed. The decor is entertaining, and quirky. They have live entertainment nightly. There are $1 bills stapled everywhere- layered on the walls and ceiling. It is quite something to see what 3 million 1 dollar bills look like. The service was very good. Our servers on both occasions were accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly. Right when we sat down we were served with a complementary mini loaf of homemade black bread, drizzled with honey butter, served warm, with a side of Irish butter. The bread was hearty, had a light flavor, and was delicious. On our first visit we tried the Combo Snack Plate ($23.99). It was huge! It came with plenty of items-- easily enough for three or four people to share: an onion ring tower, Irish boxtys, chicken thighs, Irish potato skins, Ruben eggrolls, 2 kinds of fried cheese, Apple pies, Carrots, Celery, and Baby tomatoes. I liked the Ruben eggrolls and the chicken. The chicken was tender and the Ruben eggrolls were served with Thousand Island sauce. My daughter liked the chicken, Apple pies, and Irish boxtys. I tried their Irish Red Ale beer ($5.00) brewed in house, it had a smooth malt flavor. Our final bill was $41.23. On our second visit we tried the Peanut butter and Bacon Burger ($19.99), a Crock of French Onion Soup ($6.99), and the Monday Special Margarita ($3.00). The burger was ¾ of a pound and cooked perfectly- medium rare, and it had a good chargrilled flavor. Our server suggested that we try the Irish Bourbon Glaze with the burger which was good, and it did go well with the burger. However, my only complaint is that our server failed to mention that the little 4 oz ramekin of glaze was an upcharge of $4.99. I am not sure we would have added it if we knew the cost. Our final bill was $38.58. The prices can be a little high but it is a great value for the dollar. We were very impressed with this restaurant. Overall we had a great experience at McGuires and will visit again if we are ever in the area. Also, If you like to look at photos of the food when checking reviews, note that most of the uploaded photos don't do the food here very much justice. The restaurant lighting makes it difficult to get good images on a phone. Don't let that discourage you. The place is well worth trying. read more

My wife and I were in Destin for vacation and decided to visit McQuire's Irish Pub once again. We had not tried it for a while and decided to give it a try. Parking is a major pain in the tush, but the food is worth it. We started it Irish boxtys which are coated and fried mash potato bites with various dipping sauces. I lie awake at night thinking of those things and missing them. She had a glass of wine and I tried an Irish Wake. Do not drink too many of those things as they are sneaky. We decided to split the 16oz NY Strip steak (see photo) because it it too much food. That is one tasty piece of Prime steak. It is well worth the trip to Florida just for it. It comes with bread and salad. I opted for fries as well. Our server was very professional and knew her stuff. All of our needs were quickly and quietly taken care of. The restaurant is a little dark and a little loud, but it is very fun. Check out all of the dollar bills stapled everywhere. We had the most amazing server, Charlie! She really made my first time experience fun as her energy, friendly and made us laugh!
