Ingredients for an awesome wedding: 1. Bride 2. Groom 3. Friends and family 4. Photographer and videographer When hubby and I were engaged, we had to start thinking about our wedding vendors. I went to school for research and hubby loves to learn different facts on different subjects, so we can be a pretty dynamic duo when it comes to getting sh*t done. We went to a bridal expo (yes, we. His parents even came with us. We kind of stuck out among all of the soon-to-brides with their bridesmaids' entourage), we scoured all over yelp and weddingwire, and we asked recently-wedded friends. Hubby was the one who found out about MCJ Impressions. We had originally wanted to find a photographer that would be near Walnut, as hubby had older relatives that might have trouble travelling, and we wanted to make sure to get good family photos. However, after some deliberation, his family ended up staying at a hotel near the Aquarium. Anyways, he found MCJ Impressions through Yelp. He emailed them and was given a same-day response. We like people who respond to our questions quickly. :) So, definitely a plus. They wanted to meet up, and was very flexible with their schedule. Another plus. They were on time (we were actually late because of traffic :/ ) and were ready to go when we met them, brochures at hand, samples of their work, laptop out and about, and a contract, if we decided to go that route. So, they were prepared, which is definitely another plus. We agreed right then and there and signed the contract, put in a deposit, and was in good contact with them for the next 9 months, getting ready for the wedding. Whenever we had questions or wanted to deposit some more funds to them to pay off our balance, there were absolutely no issues. The day before the wedding, I was able to email them our separate hotel rooms. The day of the wedding, they were able to park, come up to our room, and start the bride and groom getting ready shots. After we were done with those, went downstairs and did the first look shots, portrait shots, and family shots. Then, we all drove separate cars to get to the Aquarium, took some more couple shots there when the Aquarium was closed, got ready for the ceremony, got ceremony shots, got reception shots, and got the dinner shots. Overall, very smooth, as they had requested and were given a schedule weeks in advance. We got our pictures 7 weeks later. Not bad when considering it was the holiday season and I wasn't going to have them work during Christmas and New Year's. The digital gallery with our pictures were absolutely beautiful. We could do a mass download with no issues, and we ended up creating a Dropbox folder to share with our friends. Our actual physical disc will be sent to us later. Was it a good experience? Yes. Did we get all of the pictures we wanted in the short 8-hour timeframe that we had? Our wedding planner was technically me, myself, and I, with a few friends helping out when I couldn't do it. Consequently, even though we planned out a schedule of when and where to take certain pictures, we were still tight on time, even with all of the time buffers of 30 minutes to an hour that I had put in place. Definitely let them know your shot requests! Even though we provided a shot list, we didn't have time to get through it all. I was particularly sad we didn't get an accessory shot, but was thankful that our videographer (who was referred by MCJ Impressions!) came in early and got at least video of it. In retrospect, I think we should have chosen the 10-hour time frame instead of 8-hours. There are just so many shots you want to take and remember! I would definitely recommend these girls. They were absolutely wonderful to work with, they worked their way around the scenes so that I didn't always know where they were (and they consequently got beautiful shots!), and they are passionate about what they do. Their pictures speak volumes, and, if we have to have another private photo shoot, MCJ is on our list. I'm thinking about maybe a family picture shot down the line with the hubby's family, or just the hubby, me, and our future adopted puppy. :) read more

We hate it but Jennifer kept us laughing and made us SUPER comfortable. My video came in the most adorable box, I had expected it to just come in a sleeve. My wife and I were recently married in Temecula, CA at a beautiful winery on 10/10/2014. I had set out to find the perfect videographer to capture our special day months prior. This was quite a daunting task, because my wife went to film school and has very cinematic and discerning taste. I thought that this job was going to be impossible to get the quality my wife wanted and still fit within our budget. When i found MCJ Impressions, I was completely blown away but the quality on their website. The videos were flawless, cinematic and really special. When my wife saw their videos - she got butterflies. They have such an artistic eye and capture very sweet, tender moments. I was completely stunned that they fit within our budget. I thought that there had to be some catch. Upon meeting the girls at MCJ to discuss our big day - we were again blown away. They were the sweetest of people. They listened to what was important to us and what we needed to capture on film. They were on top of every followup email and phone call leading up to the big day. For our big day - MCJ again were absolutely amazing. They did a great job coordinating with our photographer and wedding planner to make sure everything had a great flow and no area was missed. They were also out of the way of all important parts (just capturing the moment - and never intruding). I actually stepped on one girl on the dance floor by accident - sorry! We hired MCJ Impressions to be our photographers for our wedding in October 2014, but life has been busy since then so I've been a little slow at writing reviews of our wedding vendors. I planned our wedding from NY and relied a lot on reviews to vet out potential vendors, so I wanted to be sure to share our own feedback. MCJ's sample photos looked great and their prices were reasonable. Since we live in NY, we didn't meet them until about 2 days before our wedding when they met us briefly at church during our rehearsal. In hindsight, I wish I had a little bit more time with these ladies to discuss what was important to us in terms of the photos as I'm sure some stuff were lost in translation over email. Overall, they were able to capture some great shots of my husband and I on our wedding day and we enjoyed spending the day with them. The package we got was for 2 photographers for 9 hours which I thought provided plenty of opportunities to capture photos throughout the day. BUT I feel as though they were a little unprepared on our wedding day, which led to some missed moments. For one, they spent some time during our shoots looking for the right spot for photos (such as where to do the first look at the hotel or where to do the bridal party shots at the reception venue). I think if they had spent some time before the wedding familiarizing themselves with these venues, they wouldn't have wasted time doing that as we were trying to do the photos. There are also some moments from our wedding day that my family and I thought were missing from the photos, even some photos missing from the shot list I provided for the formal portraits after the ceremony (ex. of missing photos: our mothers lighting the candles at the beginning of the church ceremony, a photo of just me and my parents, etc.). Also, I would have loved to see more shots of our guests during the wedding (either having fun candidly or posed together in group shots). We were hoping to see the other moments taking place during our wedding that my husband and I would not have seen. They were there to cover the main activities such as when we were greeting guests from table to table, the bouquet toss, etc. but there were times in between those moments when I would just be mingling with guests and wanted a photo with them, but our photographers were nowhere to be found. In looking at our photos, I have to say that their strength as photographers is probably more in posed shots rather than capturing candid moments. There were a few photos that I asked if it would be possible to fix the cropping (ex: in a few photos of the groom with the groomsmen one of the groomsmen was partially cut off the frame, there were no full-body portraits of the bridesmaids standing close together, etc.), but unfortunately these photos could not be edited as they said the photos were actually taken this way in accordance with their style when taking photos. Fair enough - and I've definitely learn since then to advice engaged couples to make sure they review sample photos closely to make sure they agree with their photographer's style. Though I wish they were able to provide more, MCJ Impressions was able to deliver some lovely photos at a reasonable price. read more
