Delicious town favorite. Comfort food at its best. Can get busy on weekend mornings but worth it in my opinion.

This rendition had zucchini, ricotta cheese, mushrooms and tomatoes. Topped with avocado Not wild about this one. Not much cheese so it eats kinda dry. Felt the veggies were under done. Great food, I love when people use seasoning and a little garlic to enhance dishes. I can see why people say it's the best breakfast spot in town. The cottage was adorable. The staff was also very attentive and sweet, we will def come back here soon. Only draw back was that it was so crowded it was hard to get around the restaurant without bumping into someone. Almost 3 stars because the food isn't bad. But then again it isn't that good that I'll wait two hours for it. Between the always being on an hour long wait, slow service and average food, I just can't get behind this place. Every time we eat here it's that same story. Waited almost an hour for our food with empty tables scattered all over. Last nail in the coffin is that some of the prices are just outrageous. $19 for avocado toast?! $65for two people to have breakfast?! Get real. read more

We waited for an hour to eat here because of the reviews however we just had a terrible experience! Food was okay--but as soon as we were finished eating, we were sitting at our table, finishing up our drinks and chatting and our server asked us, not even 3 minutes after clearing the table, if we could leave because they needed the table for another party. We were still finishing our drinks! This was absolutely absurd and so rude. We will NEVER be returning. It doesn't matter how long your wait list is, you shouldn't treat a current PAYING customer like that! While in Bend for a one night business trip I was tempted to either a) eat the crappy hotel breakfast or b) settle for ordinary IHOP type fare. Then I discovered McKay Cottage. Cute, quaint atmosphere in a lovingly cared for old home is just the start. Gracious hosts and kind servers combined with decent coffee and a wonderfully varied menu. Being new to Bend, we asked around for a good breakfast spot, everyone said Mckays. Hands down the best food in Bend! The Cali Benny was to die for, we practically licked our plates clean. Went for Sunday breakfast. There was a wait but they offer coffee and water for free while you wait. You can also order specialty drinks while waiting. The stuffed French toast was delicious. Orange juice was fresh squeezed. Would definitely say this is worth the wait for breakfast here. read more

Plan on getting their early and plan on waiting because it's first come, first served, and it seems like this place is all of Bend comes for breakfast once you walk on to the little cottage you will be smitten! Cozy, friendly staff, excellent food. Four in our party, plus a baby and we were quickly seated inside (on a weekday morning). They kindly moved us to a table with a little more room to accommodate the baby's car seat when we asked. The portions are a good size so we split our meals. The Croissant-Style French Toast with added bananas and strawberries was fresh and filling. The Mt. Bachelor Omelette with cottage potatoes was excellent. We got sides of bacon because their bacon is perfect...thick and meaty. Coffee is hot and strong with pitchers left on the table so you keep refilling your cup. Huge portions, a little pricey. This is one of those places where it's really hard to choose between a sweet or a savory breakfast. We came here three years ago and it was awesome. We're in Bend this weekend and had to make it a point to get to McKay's. It is even better than we remember. They were able to accommodate us with the dog and they provided a bowl of water for her. We had a scone with a latte then I had the All American with ham, the ham was really good. The staff is unbelievably nice and attentive. We got there pretty early but still gad a 25 minute wait. By the time we left, the wait must've been 30 - 45 minutes. read more

We mentioned we were first timers and she brought us the ABSOLUTELY MOST DELICIOUS cinnamon roll we have ever had. OMG could have seriously just ordered a few of those and been satisfied. Super friendly staff, very organized setup for how busy they can get. It was a bit of a wait, but they had a water and coffee station in the waiting area. Portions are huge, so come hungry. I'm giving this place a 4, because the food was good, but not amazing. We ordered the biscuit and gravy and ricotta lemon pancakes with a side of bacon. Biscuits were burnt on the outside, so I only ate the inside. The overall experience of the staff and setup got my vote. read more

What I love about Bend, Oregon and living in a small town, is running into friends, neighbors and people you have done business with for years. It really seems that every other time my wife and I are out and about we run into somebody we know. How cool! Well, we were at McKay Cottage Restaurant for breakfast this Saturday and ran into a friend and his wife that own a great Dodge and Chevy service center here in town (they solve all my vehicle maintenance needs). You know what they say, 'great minds think alike.' McKay Cottage is one of Bend's breakfast gems which for the most part is busy every time we come, but they always offer complementary coffee while you wait, and they have a heated front porch to keep you toasty until your number is called. The restaurant is a neat craftsman style house that was converted into a great indoor, outdoor bakery and restaurant. Very quaint! But the food, this is where the fun begins! I had the special this morning "Hash Benedict" pork belly, bacon, sweet potato, huckleberry and cornbread cut into little chunks fried with two poached eggs topped with hollandaise sauce. Wow! Now we're talking. My wife had the "Smith Rock Benny" applewood smoked bacon, fresh spinach, tomatoes and roasted red peppers with poached eggs on grilled focaccia topped with hollandaise. Nice! McKay Cottage has won an award every year either from The Source Weekly or Gusto magazine since 2007. Great job. I could not recommend McKay Cottage enough. Can you tell that I had a good vacation or what? So my mother in law took me here while our husbands were doing business. It is one of her favorite places and she knows I love old houses turned into restaurants like this, so she took me here! I am used to cold and that morning we went, it wasn't as cold but it was still around feeeezzzing! We waited, and waited and waited, and as I write this I keep eyeing that 5th star but I will keep it there. But we did wait "outsdide" on the porch for at least an hour! Which I must say.... is almost worth at least minus half a star! Though they did have heating lamps if you were lucky enough to squeeze under one, and they kept the complimentary coffee pots filled that they provided OUT there! Everyone that kept coming out the door (like I said...for almost an hour! No kidding!) Kept saying it was worth it! So we get in there and it is quaint and packed! My mom in law and I split an omelette and each got a differnt pastry so we could split those too! I was surprised cuz she is a very healthy eater but she was letting go for one last hurrah as well so we had fun trying each other's choices and great conversation. I will have to figure out how to post the pics I took for all of these reviews I am posting today. As for the hour wait... and if it was worth it... The omelette was good but not hot... and the rolls could have been warmer... (Not sure what it is about wanting hot food ~ but it's my pet peeve lately!) Anyway, I am glad she shared this place with me. The staff was friendly and the food service was fast (it had to be... they still had a porchful of hungry people waiting there!) I loved it and I would go back! If anyone gives this place less than three stars I'd have to read their other reviews and see if they are just hard to please cuzzz I am glad I got to experience this place. And even with the wait and the semi cold food... it was a 5 star experience and a memory maker with my sweet mother in law. read more

Sweet Baby Jesus that breakfast was a blessing to my life! I'm not talking catholic Jesus I'm talking straight up non-denominational, water into wine, knows how to party Jesus. The vail has been lifted and McKay's has showed me that light!!! In the beginning, there was hot coffee and warm scones. And it was good! The "Marvin's Garden Special" was more like the garden of Eden, and these lips tasted that forbidden fruit! By the time you finish your plate, you will be singing hallelujah with the passion of a southern baptist choir! Worth the wait!! We waited a bit (maybe 20 minutes) but it was well worth it! While it was a bit loud in the restaurant, the server did his best to be honed into what we were saying and was extremely kind and knowledgeable about the menu items. I ordered the special of the day, a huckleberry scone (included with the special) and a hot chai, and my fiancé ordered the Baja scramble. The chai was hot, spicy and delicious! The scone came to the table toasty enough to melt the butter. It was dry as predicted since it's a scone but the flavors were sweet, fruity, creamy and slightly rich- amazing! My meal had eggs, hollandaise (the best I've EVER had) chicken sausage, asparagus, potatoes and some other veggies- it was amazing! I don't recall all that was in my fiancé's scramble but the crispy tortilla, mixed with the hollandaise and spicy chicken made the dish perfect. I can't believe I haven't reviewed McKay Cottage! It's by far my absolute favorite eatery in Bend. My husband and I used to live in Bend and on special occasions would splurge on a very hearty McKay Cottage brunch. We'd order melon mimosa, marionberry scones, and a full breakfast. The food is amazing to say the least. When I was a meat eater, I frequently ordered the biscuits and gravy. They are so perfect! Now that I skip meat, I love their pancakes. My husband loves their omelettes. He's yet to have one he doesn't rave about. Now that I no longer live in Bend, any time I pass through or visit I make it a point to eat at McKay Cottage. read more
