McKay and Julio did an amazing job designing and installing our irrigation system. Not only did they do great work, but they are extremely professional and took the time needed to come by to go over the intended use of the system, valve quantities, spacing and layout. I'm a landscape architect myself so it was important the irrigation components and layout didn't interrupt plant spacing and McKay worked with me to achieve the intended design without any issues. Vey responsive and came quickly to give a quote....However, they quoted me $1150 to replace two valves. Said it would take 6 hours and they would have to move my box. Even said that if someone quoted me $300 they didn't know what they were doing. Called another local company and sent him pictures. He came out the next weekend and charged me only $287!!! Like every house in the area, my yard had a drip irrigation system with black tubes and plastic emitters. They were annoyingly leaky and fragile, and I hated them with passion. When I renovated my yard 4 years ago, I wanted a different type of irrigation system that was more durable. But upon insistence of my landscape architect, I conceded and replaced it with the same type of irrigation. As predicted, it turned out to be another case of whack-a-mole, patching holes and replacing emitters every time there was a leak. Some plants got too much water, others not enough, and soon my plants started to perish. I hired several landscapers to problem shoot, but they didn't have the expertise that I required of them. They'd charge me $50 just to briefly look over the system, and leave without solving any of the issues. I was done dealing with shoddy patch up job, and I wanted to replace the irrigation yet again. I looked for someone who specialized in irrigation, and came across Sherman through yelp. Let me tell you, the 5 star reviews did not lie. I am a nerd, as is my husband, and Sherman is a nerd of the irrigation world (in a good way). He can talk 200 mph about hoses,valves, etc. and he's very knowledgeable as well as passionate about this stuff. He only does new installations of super durable Netafim tubes, which he claims to last +15 years if maintained properly. Aside from the durability, Netafim already has emitters integrated within the tubes. No more poking and patching up leaky holes! Julio, Sherman's right hand man, and the team worked quickly and efficiently. They finished the installation in about 2 days. They made sure that everything was done to my satisfaction, and offered to come back if something wasn't working. Two months after the installation, I accidentally sliced open a couple of tubes while digging. I thought to just simply replace the tubes myself, so I sent an Amazon link to confirm with Sherman that it was the correct type of tubing. Lo and behold, Sherman and Julio came back to replace the tubes themselves, although the fault was my own. They go above and beyond to please their customers, and I cannot recommend them enough. Netafim does cost a lot more than standard drip irrigation, but the time I saved from fixing cheap system is worth a lot more than that. read more

I cannot recommend them enough: friendly, great work, awesome communication (text Sherman with pretty much any question before, during, or after the work is being done, you're pretty much guaranteed an answer less than 10 minutes later). For example, 1 month after the installation, we had an unrelated plumbing issue, I texted Sherman at 6am, Julio was checking the system out at our place at 7:30am. Their irrigation system is commercial-grade drip-based, which is more water efficient than spray. They also work with somebody for lawn-related work, which simplified things a lot for our project: they were able to fully coordinate the work on their end. Sherman is super responsive, and there is constant communication when you work with Mckay. I needed to replace an old sprinkler system to prepare for a month-long trip to Japan and didn't have much time (about three weeks until the trip). Sherman went out of his way to squeeze us into their busy schedule, and sure enough, they completed it in time. As a result, I had a stress-free trip to Japan without worrying about our lawn or flowerpots drying up. When Sherman gives you a quote, he is very transparent and explains what will happen if you decide to work with him. They install a high-end sprinkler system that you can control using an App on your smartphone or a computer. His quote might be a bit steep compared to other companies/contractors; however, it is worth every penny! Excellent communication, top-notch system (I controlled the sprinkler system in California from Tokyo), which automatically adjusts the watering schedule according to the local weather, precipitation rate, temperature, and humidity. After my return from Japan, my lawn had a minor brown spot. I texted Sherman, and 3 seconds later, he called back, saying he would personally visit to fix the issue no matter what it may be. I was referred to Sherman McKay from the Urban Farmer Store. Originally it was to install underground Netafim for our grass. Sherman was prompt, polite, timely, and fair. Ultimately we decided not to go with the underground irrigation and did a full reinstall of above ground for our lawn (with more efficient sprayers) and realigned much of our drip. I contracted with Sherman in November to install new efficient drip irrigation to my front and back yards. I was sick of issues of weak connections breaking and consistently faulty nozzles and sprayer heads. Regularly calling a handyman or fumbling with trying to replace nozzles/sprayers myself was a constant theme. Several years ago, we had some palm trees removed from our yard and the removal guys accidentally damaged the irrigation system (it was kind of unavoidable as the trees had grown so much they were right on top of the tubes). Well, the awesome dude who had installed it for us had left the country and we were in a panic. Enter Sherman McKay. Speaking of awesome dudes. Sherman is pretty awesome. He is super responsive, friendly, knowledgeable, FAST, reasonable... basically, he works miracles. He fixed up the damaged sections, no muss, no fuss! I just had him back out the last couple days because the irrigation system's timer was no longer turning on one of the zones... he quickly identified the issue, bought the part, installed, tested, and we're back in business. If you want good food, do you go to an empty restaurant or one that people are lining up for? I live in the Forest Hill area of San Francisco and have met quite a few gardening professionals. I have to say, Sherman is the best I've met - ever. He is courteous, straightforward, knows exactly what he is doing, tells you what to expect and delivers quickly at a reasonable price. What else could you want? I called Sherman because our sprinkler system wasn't working. It took a few days for him to come by because - well he's taking care if his clients. In the meantime I had a couple other guys who were available right away come by and look at my system. None of them offered any solutions. They were able to tunnel the pvc lines from the controllers under the sidewalk. The work was professional and top notch. We were totally satisfied with the work and value of the project. These folks are amazing! I recently completed a sizable remodel and needed to expand my irrigation system around the driveway and in a a new courtyard area. As part of the remodel, I'd consulted with a landscape designer to expand the irrigation system and help with plantings. That idea fell flat when the designer had her own ideas and didn't want to hear about any of mine. When the remodel was complete, I contacted McKay Irrigation to expand my existing sprinkler system. Sherman McKay took the time to educate me about the types of systems that McKay builds (Netafim Techline CV). His partner, Julio, checked out the specifics of my job, and they were able to give me a verbal quote on the spot. By the time Sherman and Julio left, I'd decided to replace my entire system with a McKay Irrigation one. The system was installed under the direction of Julio, and was complete prior to the estimated installation time. Irrigation was installed in pots, raised beds, along the fence lines, a back lawn and my front yard. The team cleaned up everything (and there was a lot of digging!). I had this company come out to my home to give me a quote on a repair my remote was not working and I had a pipe that was leaking water under the concrete they quoted me a ridiculous price of 1100 and told me they would need to rewire my valves and a new remote and to cap off the pipe. After having a second opinion another guy came out from a local company charged me 30 bucks to cap the pipe and switched a couple of wires on the valves and the remote was working perfectly. I am very disappointed and would not ever do business with these guys again to me this is a very dishonest business and I want to let everyone know. Stay away from these frauds!!! read more
