Insists on a working phone in the elevator before they will come service my unit, meaning a $40/month charge. They claim it is a legal requirement, but it isn't for single family homes. Also it's $520 for the first hour of service! read more

McKinley installed a new Elevator in a newly built house in 2020. The elevator is used 1-2 times a week. In January 2026 the elevator dropped 1-2" below the lower floor level and stopped working. A technician came released the elevator, changed 2 batteries (I'm not sure why) and told me that the sensor on the lower level had to be slightly adjusted so the controller would identify the elevator when it reached the ground level. 4 months later (mid May) the same problem happened again. I contacted McKinley and learned that the technician's report mentions only replacing the 2 batteries and DOES NOT mention "adjusting the sensor" to solve the problem the call was supposed to address. McKinley's manager, David, refused to send a technician to finally solve the problem without additional pay. He stated that their service warranty is ONLY 30 days. The fact the technician did not report fixing the original problem did not matter to David. This is the worst service I've ever received!!!! (especially from the company that SOLD and INSTALLED my elevator). read more

I have a Waupaca hydraulic elevator that these folks installed 10 years ago. It has worked well, and I have no complaints about the installation. However, twice now, I have had a problem pop up soon after a routine service. This could be a coincidence, but I have my doubts. Recently, post-service, the elevator does not respond intermittently. I have left 5 or 6 messages for S. Moon of the company, but he will not return my calls. This is unacceptable; not the kind of company I want servicing our residential elevator. read more

About ten years ago they installed a wheelchair lift. Within two years we had problems with the door. They rarely answer my calls for service. You will only ever get an answering service. When I can get them to come, they fix nothing but charge me for a service call that would supposedly be followed up by the actual repairs when the parts arrive. And that second part never ever happens. They are the worst possible elevator company I could have chosen. I'm not sure they are even still in business based on responses to my calls. Deplorable. Do NOT hire them. read more

If I could, I would give no star. Our original stair lift stopped working, so we were calling around to get an estimate for a new unit. Scheduled with Vince (sales guy) on a Saturday morning. He said he could only do 9am because he had to go to a baseball game. He showed up on time - maybe even a bit early. Fast talker, not sincere, did not want to spend time to give me more detailed information about what they can offer. This would have been a $13K sales job. Yet all he seemed to want was to get out of there. I could sense his eagerness to want to leave - must be his baseball game calling! So I asked him to send me a quote. If I could give no star I would. I wanted the chair for my post operation use. I contacted and made a payment in August -my operation was October. Vince measured the stair way but the chair makes you hit your knee on the banister on the way up or down. If the chair was moved one inch it would fit fine. The installers demanded final payment although the chair was not installed properly nor did the remotes work At the top of the stairway the chair parks in the middle of the hallway instead of parking out of the way. I wrote to the better business bureau trying to get the install corrected, they dropped the ball on it. Vince doesn't phone. Instead he emails so the install was delayed until after the operation was over and I was healed. That was disappointing. The elevator is nice but the install isn't right. This company really needs better reps and service. How many people need an elevator in their two story houses so they can age in place in the Bay Area ? There is a huge market for this product but they can't bother to have decent reps! Ridiculous. So far I have received no phone calls nor response to my plea for service. Walk away from this company-it only gets worse. Now a couple months after the install was finally completed --and it breaks down and $270 before the repair guy walks in the door to repair plus more if it takes longer. It was installed in March, final fix was May, it's now July and it is out of warranty? Just don't use these guys or you are stuck with them forever and after $14,000 to install I have to keep paying. Even the repair guys think it sucks and Vince doesn't work there now, he is in concord? So beware of him in that area. It is such a pain with this company. Their real headquarters is so. Cal so beware. They talk a good game but don't be fooled. Like so many stupid companies, they think one guy can measure and another installs. That never works. Have the installer measure, he knows what pitfalls to avoid. It's true with drapes or blinds and these chairlifts. No gizmo can measure like an experienced installer. Just avoid this company. It has been an awful experience. But they just don't care. They figure they have the market cornered and you need them. Better to more to a single floor house read more

Disappointed in their service practice. We purchased a stair lift chair to allow a family member who is disabled to go upstairs. The sales person was pleasant, and generally helpful. The installers were very nice, clean and prompt. The unit is pretty good, though for $10K + you'd expect at least that. The unit is very sturdy tho the design could be better (key needs to be left in the unit so it is easy to bend it, the seat only swivels at the top of the stairs, not the bottom). It started every once in awhile not responding when the switch was pushed, tried a new remote battery, recharged the big battery, etc. It stopped 3 times just before the landing and it was a little troublesome getting the disabled person off the seat mid-air. When we called to see about having it serviced we were told the labor was only covered for 3 months (we called at 4 months tho it had been acting up randomly for a couple months) AND the labor was almost $400 for the first hour PLUS one hour of travel time PLUS $40 every 15 minutes or so after the first hour. Hopefully you will never need one of these, but if you do, be sure to ask about the labor, and what the charge is. Parts are covered for a year--so why not labor??? read more

McKinley Elevator Signed us up for a maintenance program that would include fast service if the elevator quit working. The fee was $300.00. The first service went fine. 30 days later the elevator quit working. My wife is injured and needs the elevator. Their response was it would take them a few days to come out and fix the elevator. We called their operation in Southern California trying to get quicker service. They explained that their were only a couple of employees in northern California and they are not able to provide service quickly. They then called us and said our elevator was too old to fix and they were canceling the contract. We called a company in San Francisco. They came out quickly and fixed the elevator. McKinley seems to be making money off of service contracts, but not fixing elevators of people in need. read more

I am really frustrated with this company. Their service is horrible. I have to make many calls and emails. They just don't bother to return your calls or emails. I literally have to beg them to come to finish the work because I am out of elevator for nearly a year and still it's not finished. I just don't know how long I have to wait till they finish the work. read more

Had a horrible experience with McKinley Elevators until the install. We dealt with a salesman named Vince McNeil who barely gave us the time of day when trying to purchase our elevator. He always acted like he was in a hurry and rarely returned phone calls or emails. Once the elevator was ordered he dropped us like a hot potato and we never heard from him again. We had to contact the owner from there on out to get any info regarding the status of our elevator. Much to our disappointment, the production and installs we're back logged by several months. Then came a shining light at the end of the tunnel... Alex Cicognia and Michael Paris, came to install my elevator and changed my perception of the company. From the minute these two walked through my door, I have been nothing but pleased and impressed. They showed up on time, worked incredibly hard, put in long hours, did nice, clean work, problem-solved, and showed nothing but good work ethic. Nice to end on a good note. read more
