Everything was absolutely delicious. My husband also got the roast beef + horseradish panini with the soup of the day which was lemon turkey, and those were absolutely delicious as well. 12/30/25 McKinley's Cafe made for a great lunch stop. I ordered the soup of the day, a bowl of clam chowder. It was fantastic: creamy, comforting, and not too fishy or salty. I also tried their popular Gouda & turkey panini, and it did not disappoint. This is a pay-before-you-sit spot, and the service was impressively fast. My food came out hot and delicious within about 10 minutes. The ambiance was casual and inviting, and the staff was very friendly. Overall, a great enjoyable experience, and I would definitely eat here again in the future. But also there's limited parking as it is street parallel parking near by here. McKinley's was OK. There are a few options nearby but this local sandwich spot is the most charming and busy. There was a steady stream of dine in and to go customers. We didn't wait long to order and then grab a table. Tried the Reuben, taco salad, and southwest salad. All the food was fine - a bit bland and wilted despite being made to order. The service was attentive but a few minor things were mixed up - like type of chips, etc. it has a very classic feel, and it cozy and relaxed. A decent option if you're in town. read more

It is now our normal to get off I64 to eat lunch at McKinley's every time we're on 64. SO WORTH IT!!! Great staff, always friendly and helpful. AMAZING food!!! The turkey gouda paining is my favorite. My husband loves their club and potato salad. Ask about the soup of the day. Often it's a soup I've never heard of but it is always delicious!!! Today's soup was sweet potato chorizo with corn bread croutons - Exceptional!!! I dont dare look at their bakery cabinet. Too many temptations for me but when I've given in, YUMMY and worth the calories! They offer coke products and fresh tea. The bathrooms are always clean, as is the cafe. We only wish they had more booths! The place gets crowded at lunch time, for good reason! If all that wasn't enough, the prices are good too! read more

Having just moved to Shelbyville i want to support local businesses. I tried Mckinley's Cafe for the first time today and it was wonderful. I had a combo of the turkey gouda sandwich with tomato basil soup. The sandwich was huge. Taking half for lunch tomorrow! The soup was delicious. I'm looking forward to returning soon. read more

I have never had anything I did not love here. The Santa Fe is my absolute favorite sandwich but the Italian is really good as well. Service is quick, I order carry out a lot and it is always ready on time. I love their desserts as well. The cheesecake is really delicious read more

McKinley's is a very solid deli/lunch spot. I had the Reuben Panini which was very good, I don't think I've ever had a pressed Reuben before. I also ordered a bag of Sun Chips, Garden Salsa, and a chocolate chip cookie. While I was sitting waiting for my order to be made I saw a Butter Pecan Toffee cookie in the case and decided at the last minute to do a cookie switch. The food prep didn't take long and the prices were reasonable so I plan on returning to McKinley's. read more

I was traveling from Bardstown, KY to Henry County, Kentucky for soccer. I knew I needed to eat at some point on this trip. When I hit Shelbyville I looked up sandwich/deli shops and McKinley's popped up. Instead of going to a chain like Jersey Mike's, I opted to go local and I'm glad I did. I got the 615 sandwich and pasta salad. The 615 has all the meats & veggies with a chipotle mayo. Very good sandwich. I only was able to eat 1/2 and I'll enjoy the other half later in the day. Staff was friendly & it wasn't ridiculously expensive either. They could probably up their prices if they really wanted too. I'm glad they don't. But quality food and sandwich. read more

This place is undoubtedly my favorite place for lunch in Shelbyville, Ky. It's tucked away in downtown Shelbyville on the main drag. You order at the counter when you enter. There are menus on the wall for both normal fare and catered food. We always change it up and try something new... everything is always on point. Their potato salad is a must-- definitely my favorite thing on the menu. Today we got paninis. I also opted for the chicken curry soup with rice as my side and it was heavenly. We had McKinley's Cafe catered for my fiancé and I's engagement party, and we were beyond thrilled with everything! They delivered everything because the party was so close to the cafe, and the man who delivered the food (I'm not sure if he was just an employee, manager, or owner) was so extremely nice! He made sure we had everything and even provided serving utensils for us and congratulated us on the engagement! We had the chef salad, pasta salad, the Benedictine, the McKinley, and the Shelby sandwiches, and the turkey apricot wraps. I'm telling you - everything was delicious! It was all so fresh and put together so nicely. I had to try one of everything of course. It was absolutely a hit at our party, and I'm sad I didn't think to get any pictures of everything! Spent last two days having lunch at McKinley's. This is a unique eatery for a couple of reasons; the owner is a chef and graduate of The Culinary Institute of America and was the guest chef at NY's James Beard House... quite prestigious. While traveling with our Real Estate agent we stopped here for lunch. It smelled like delicious soup and fresh bread when we walked in. the front counter was stocked with baked sweets of all kinds (I recommend the Peanut Butter Choc Chip mega cookie). I ordered a turkey sandwich with sun dried tomatoes on focacia. It was extremely salty, but delicious nonetheless. Although the cafe was packed, we found a table and received our food within 10min of ordering. I loved the raspberry tea- it's VERY sweet, so I mixed with unsweetened tea. A friend introduced me to this gem a few months back, and I've returned several times since. McKinley's is a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, so they've got a small menu and very few tables, but the food is so good every time. I've tried sandwiches, paninis, and salads here, and they are always great. What keeps me coming back is the atmosphere. The lady that brings your food out is so friendly and personable- she makes conversation with me and my baby every time we go in, and she is on top of bringing out food and clearing trash from tables. I had the Shelby sandwich. It was so delicious! Whipped cream cheese, turkey, lettuce, and cranberries...such a perfect blend of flavors. My husband had the artichoke and pepper Jack panini and loved it. We walked in as tourists from out of town. One friend got the pimento cheese sandwich on sourdough and tomato soup. She looked bothered that she was going to have to make 6 whole sandwiches... we've have always chose our cheese and had a great sandwich made before. I asked for spicy blueberry cheese sandwich and evidently that was not aloud because it wasn't on their premade/presliced sandwich menu, even though it's on their menu online.... (Mango Blues) When other customers came in she just looked at them and said it's going to be a substantial wait almost like she couldn't handle it or be bothered. My friends asked if they could have their grilled cheese made without the mayo and she literally said this is how they make them and that it's not a condiment it's a cooking agent. But they didn't want that and she didn't offer to make it without. Even though she had butter right there. She was very passive aggressive and rude. So instead of a nice order to start her day, my friends ended up walking out. Unfortunately, you can throw away our customer punch card as we will not be returning. Listen, if you hate your job and don't want the business, maybe it's time to move onto something else...

I knew a Meatloaf sandwich was going to be on the list so I went directly to the counter to pick one up, I also picked up a country ham sandwich and bottled water to eat in the front seat of my truck (there were no open seats available inside due to the local crowd occupying all the tables and seating), they were very busy. There was plenty of help, everybody was very helpful and friendly. The steam table had plenty of options for lunch or you can choose to have a deli sandwich made but the Meatloaf is piled high in a bun and it packs all the flavor you expect from a farmhouse kitchen table! I will be back soon and make this a regular lunch stop to try some of there other menu items when I am working in Shelbyville again!
