Excellent little café, especially for a tiny town like Taylorsville. The coffee is excellent and the muffins superb. I always get a chocolate muffin, because, well, I'm deeply committed to my unhealthy relationship with chocolate. The Tea Cup has perfected the chocolate muffin. It's melty chocolate goodness in every bite (but be sure to lick the chocolate off your teeth before smiling or talking). I usually get a second muffin, as well, and usually go with a seasonal pick. Right now, there's an orange pineapple muffin that tastes like Summer. And what goes better with Summer than chocolate? They only take cash or checks. I'm a regular but still forgot to bring cash on one occasion. The super-friendly staff opened a tab for me and told me I could pay for my coffee and muffins on my next visit. Service doesn't get any better than that. I also ordered a cake from them once. It was beautiful and tasted like an Orange Dreamsicle. And was comparable in price to a cake from Kroger. I really can't say enough nice things about this place. If you're in Louisville, come to Taylorsville on a Saturday morning, eat at the Tea Cup, and check out the antique shops along Main Street, as well as the Farmer's Market. I tried the hot turkey sandwich. It was not very good. The turkey was cheap deli turkey and the bowl of gumbo looked like it was from a can. The whole place smelled like bleach and it made the environment uncomfortable. It's obvious they are not sure what they are doing. read more

This was a perfect place for us to grab a hearty lunch after spending a cold morning in the outdoors. It is located in downtown Taylorsville, just next to the courthouse. I would not have thought to go to this place if it hadn't been for Yelp. The interior is cozy and inviting, decorated with Americana like vintage coke bottles. We ordered at the counter and they brought the food out to us. Service was prompt and friendly. They had a good variety of hot and cold sandwiches, soups, pies, cookies, etc. I had the turkey and Swiss melt served on croissant but many sandwiches like the egg salad and BLT looked good too. My sandwich was excellent, it was served with potato salad (chips are the other option) and a pickle. I also ordered a bowl of chili which was very nicely flavored and stick to your ribs (it contained ground beef, beans, tomato, some noodles and was topped with cheese and onions). This was honest, straightforward, good, and tasty food. This place was a little gem and we will definitely be back here on our next outdoors outing! I will have to leave some room for dessert next time because those pies (coconut cream I think was one of them) at the counter looked delicious too. A few closing remarks: * they only accept cash or checks, plastic is no good. I see a Square or PayPal dongle in their future :). IMO the increase in sales would more than offset the fees. * they close at 2 pm. * you can ask for some Tabasco on the side if you order the chili. * the prices are reasonable but if I had to nitpick, I feel the sandwiches could have been just a tad bigger and I would have liked the croissants toasted to make them a little crispier on the outside. * sorry, our group was so caught up in conversation that I forgot to leave a tip!
