Somehow…read moremanagement thought it would be ok to have someone use BLEACH IN ITS POWDER (A CAUSTIC CHEMICAL) to scrub the BLACK MOLD from the side of the pool INTO THE POOL WHILE PEOPLE WERE STILL SWIMMING INSIDE!!!! This was the last straw. So much poor management I've witnessed throughout my time, especially with the pool. The water is always milky and has an overpowering scent of chlorine which leads me to suspect the pH is very off and they don't properly check and maintain pool cleanliness. They had their cleaning people use strong chemicals to clean the pool deck and windows during open hours. Random times they would shut down the pool without any prior notice via email or postings or otherwise. Lockers rooms always stank. This is not the case at other gyms I've been to. The premier memberships options like the recovery room and towel service were subpar compared to other Onelife facilities. Many times the hydromassage beds were not working and the red light recovery room's ambient temperature was way too hot. They should be offering eye protection for the red light like other facilities instead of just having a sign that says 'use at your own risk.' Plus one of the coat racks in the red light room is chipped and has an exposed nail that had been that way since they opened it (for months now). Their towels are tiny and would only cover the body of a child and are super rough like they overstarched them. Not to mention there were times where the towels ran out and when I asked a staff member about it, they just said that I'll just have to wait. Didn't bother to check if the dryer has clean towels, which it did when I asked a manager.

However, the facility itself was in dire need of renovation. - pool: covered outdoor pool that works as indoor pool during colder months, but the condensation is much, you can't see anything. (See pic) - it is like a maze: hard to navigate easily and it reminds you of your public school set up - group classes itself were nice, but the AC AND the fans on the ceiling don't work, so imagine how hot it gets.. like 77 on my group class day. It was so uncomfortable. - if you need tennis or other courts: this is your best bet! They have so many tennis and other sport courts. So choose this location if you like tennis, squash etc. not a good fit for those who just wanna workout in group classes or swim in comfort. $90 a month plus $100 or so for initiation fee. 3. Indoor cafe available 4. Parking is a nightmare. Such a small lot for the number of people it serves. Those who live in McLean should just walk there. Then the walk itself will your workout!

When the manager, Bill, approached me, I tried to be reasonable. I introduced myself and attempted to deescalate the conversation. That is when he called me a child, said he could kick me out due to my conduct, and told me he would be watching me from now on. Separately, a woman at the front desk named Marina (who handles memberships) jumped into the conversation and brought up an unrelated prior incident where she claimed I had cursed at the front desk before, as if that was relevant to this situation. Both employees came across as aggressive in their tone, language, and body language. I've been coming to this gym for a while, and the other staff members have been great. My issue is not with the gym itself, but with how these two employees handled a minor situation in an unnecessarily confrontational way. I'm sure they'll try to find minor infractions and attempt to remove me unjustly.

The pool is also very nice especially since few gyms even have a pool let alone a steam room. One of my favorite aspects of this gym compared to others, is it isn't filled with personal trainers hogging up all of the equipment or asking "how many more sets do you got?" People do give this location a bad rap because of the bring your own lock situation but I personally love it. In the locker rooms, they have a leave your lock section where you can have your own locker each time you come visit which is so nice having extra clothes available. I have also dealt with way more issues with gyms having built-in lockers where they can easily get jammed, and you have to call the front desk on the phone. Is this the best Equinox location I have been to? No, but it still super nice. My one complaint is I do wish that the gym had a little bit more space available. At the end of the day, it's still a great gym, and I'll be back many times.

That then makes one of the stretching areas unusable. They also have swim team after work and school hours so you are sharing a pool with toms of young kids. It's dirty in bathrooms, the sinks are always dirty, all bathroom floors are wet, and showers are covered in hair. Disgusting! their cleaning people pass over issues rather than handling. Not to mention the fact weights are always missing and we have basketball courts making it so loud your noise cancelling headphones still won't block it out. You also can't get through to equipment unless you cross behind the courts so hopefully you can catch a ball. Also pretty sure the AC doesn't work at all. The one good part is the GM there is always kind but their upper management seriously needs to fix these issues or just close the gym at this point. It's embarrassing

Upon signing up for the 7 day pass, I received a text from Amir. Luckily, he was flexible and let me come at the end of March. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Isaac, who was extremely friendly and informative. We went through the entire walk through, and on my 2nd visit, he went over the prices. The only thing I didn't like is that they take down all the information from our Driver's License even if it's just a trial. Since this is considered a boutique gym, the classes are the main focus and driver for memberships. They get crazy busy and packed, but are only held at certain times of the day..and not Friday evenings. The classes include (but with different names): yoga, boxing, cycling and CS4. I was only able take one class--Ride with Lauren--and WOW it was fun and vibrant! I came back another day for leg day to try out the equipment. I was very fascinated by the TechnoGym equipment--beautiful, unique machines and all in pristine condition. There were SO MANY options for upper, lower, cardio, etc. Additionally, there is a separate cross fit area, where they hold classes and it is open to members. There is a recovery section, which includes compression sleeves, cryotherapy and massage chairs, which are convenient but I believe separate from the monthly gym membership. Also, there is a spa, whcih is definitely 3rd party and not included in the monthly membership. There is 2 hour parking available in the garage, which is validated at the front desk.

Abdi would refuse to watch the pool when I needed a break and then he would lie about not have to do that. I also strongly suspected Abdi was selling drugs out of the back of the club. I saw a lot of people with similar names to him on the Fairfax County Court Website but no idea of the actual guy. Otherwise McLean racquet and health club is okay. Good racquet club and workout rooms. Pool is kind of small.

Ok, let's start with the good. It's not much, but it is something: the primary thing this club has…read moregoing for it is its location. It is very centrally located to McLean. I also found the staff to be perfectly adequate during the months I was a member. Never dealt with any rudeness or unwillingness to help. I have heard in my time there that people have had issue with the owner, but I never interacted with him so I wouldn't know. The issue is really the quality of the facilities. It is a very, very old club and they have not done anything to update it. You'll see in a lot of reviews that people complain its impossible to get a court. I can confirm this. The courts are always full and it is a real pain to get one. I didn't use the pool a ton, but it seemed to not be too crowded. They have kickboards and floaters. But there are always kids in the pool, either taking private lessons or there with their parents learning to swim. If that's not the vibe you want, this isn't the place for you. Personally, I wouldn't' bring my kids here either, because of the locker rooms, but more on that below. On the surface, the restaurant, etc. seem fine. But stick around and you'll start seeing some real problems. The locker rooms are really disgusting. I hate to say it but they are. The shower curtains are moldy, the mats on the floor are stained and moldy, and the water pressure is nonexistent. The towels are, no joke, the size of hand towels and so thin that I wouldn't use them to wipe my floor, let alone give to club members. The soap and shampoo is cheap quality, and the dispensers are moldering and gross. There are hardly any benches to sit on. It is a very cramped and small locker room, with cramped and small showers. There's also the issue that this is a family club, so if you don't want kids gawking at you while you change, it's not the place for you. I have kids of my own, so I get it. But it's pretty uncomfortable to have little kids as old as 10 or 11 in a tiny locker room if you're trying to change into workout clothes. There is a stench in the locker room, too. It really smells like dirty socks. The toilets were always dirty--I don't think they send anyone in to clean them. The issue ends up being that this club isn't cheap. Basic membership is about $200 a month, but with family members and court service, the price climbs quickly. And its absolutely not worth it at that price. Not even close. I'd recommend that they: --Actually stock good towels and toiletries --Create a separate changing section for famlies --Stock towels that don't look like filthy rags --replace their showerheads --replace their shower curtains --replace the floor mats --get a few air purifiers in the locker room to get rid of the stench --create a better system for getting a court --hire some more regular cleaners All in all, this gym is worth maybe $40 a month, tops. Almost $200 is a shameless ripoff. Trust me, whether you need a tennis court, a gym, yoga classes--whatever it might be, this is not the place to get it.
