I absolutely love McLendon. Very close to my residence, awesome selection, really friendly staff. My only gripe would be that the inside is very compact and filled to the brim. Not like that is their problem, just how the building was built. Whenever I need a spare part or odd piece McLendon is more likely to have it in stock than Home Depot or Lowes. I was looking for a door handle for my RV. I called a bunch of auto part stores, Including The grange who every body said they have everything I need, but no one had the correct one. And the wrong ones were $45.00-$90.00! I called up and was transferred a few times and the guy who ended up with me said he believed he had what I was looking for and would put his hands on it if I wanted. I said PLEASE.... he came back and said he had several different ones and if I brought the old one down he could have a look at it but said since I was having such a hard time I may have an odd ball. So I go down there (they are busy on Saturday!) I show it to the guy and he walks me back and pulls it off the shelf! I am so happy I buy 2 and they were only $12.95 ea.!!! LOCAL hardware company, which beats the pants off many of those big box hardware stores. Prices are sometimes a little higher, especially for building supplies, but it's worth it to support good, local commerce. Always helpful and friendly and I've used them for gardening/yard advice in the past. They refused to make copies using my 2 blank transponder keys I bought over the Internet for $12.99 and insisted I had to use theirs for $70 each and that other locksmiths wouldn't take mine either. Their bogus explanation was that keys online were inferior quality and would wear down their equipment. I went to Reliable Lock and Safe, Inc. in Tacoma and they had no problem using them for no extra charge. You tried to cheat me out of $140. I don't care if it is a common and accepted practice in the industry, it is still dishonest and I would have to assume that it is a reflection of how you practice business as a whole. Never had a issue with McClendon and always made sure to go get hardware for my grandparents there. Today my husband and I were there grabbing a door knob, a piece of wood and some wax and stain. Well I go to check out this younger girl with brown hair ( first check stand at about 12:45) says as loud as she could if they tagged the wood I had. I said no I did not know that was suppose to be done. She so rudely goes well you do need to get it tagged. I said ok and who puts it on? I was inquiring if she could help us, I dont work there no one was back there I stated. she ignored me. My husband said forget it and went to put it back. She turns to me and goes its really expensive like 14.99 a foot. I said ok... Like I cant afford to buy wood because I am off work today with my hair in a pony tail and sweats on... That left a bad taste. We were excited to find the wood he would use for projects there but I will never be back to buy from you guys again. I dont know who that girl at the store is or why she has such a bad attitude and annoyed look but people like her really ruin a good expierence. I can take someone not friendly but I work hard and in customer service and the way she treated me was beyond rude and not helpful. I will spend our money else where. Hopefully this is something you will look into. I dont complain normally but this girl is beyond rude and needs to be retrained on being respectful and customer oriented. Even before I went up to be rang up she was giving me a dirty look. I will not be purchasing anymore hardware for my rental or my grandparents home when things need to be fixed. I love helping local businesses but will be sure to go elsewhere. I may have been running errands and not looking my best but I also would suspect on my day off it should not matter as a paying customer. I am still beyond mad and hurt actually. If something needs to be tagged instead of screaming about it or whatever with a bad attitude maybe in a nicer tone and getting someone to help would be useful. Not just yelling about it and then not coming up with a solution to help a paying customer. Then making a snide remark about the price if she new the price why not further assist instead of acting like I couldnt afford it. I make pretty good money as well as my husband which shouldn't matter. A hardware store is not a beauty contest. I was made to feel like I was below her. I am a full time working mother and my husband is a disabled combat vet with a small business. She needs to look beyond someones looks and do her job as a cashier and bring customer service. I hope she does not treat others that way and sadly she probably does. I've been buying hardware products at McLendon's Hardware for years. I've visited the Renton, Woodinville and Puyallup locations. I was there yesterday to buy some oak wood and brackets to build a shelf in my RV to mount my new convection/microwave oven. I was pleasantly surprised when I was given the senior, Tuesday discount without asking and I wound up getting a 20% discount because May 8th was my 65th birthday. The main reason I buy my hardware at McLendon's Hardware is because their employees are very knowledgeable about the products they sell and can usually answer any questions you might have about whatever project you're working on. I also like supporting a local, family owned business (until recently). I'm done with using Home Depot or Lowe's where the employees don't know where anything is located, (usually) and very few have a working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, etc. I hope the recent sale of McLendon's doesn't ruin the store as usually happens when a business is gobbled up by another entity. Their products are usually quality manufactured in the USA (if available) rather than the foreign junk sold by their competitors. I will continue to shop/support McLendon's until the new owners screw it up. Hopefully, that won't happen. The reviewers offering sour grape reviews should stick to Home Depot or Lowe's so they don't over-crowd the store. Keep up the good work McLendon's! read more

This is one of my least favorite places to go to as the cashiers are so rude and unhelpful. I went in there with an arm sling and the lady yelled at me twice to get my stuff off the counter after she rang me up . I asked her did she want me to pay or move, because I could only do one at a time. If you need help in any department, good luck with that because they no longer have experts in any of the departments. read more

I would put a zero Stars if I could. I've only went in here to shop for hardware supplies a few times and everytime I was greeted by a grumpy old person. the last time I went in was to get ice melt for my sidewalk the lady would not show me where it was on top of the fact that when I went to check out she told me that I couldn't use it and then I went and asked her why would it be used for sidewalks if you can't use it and she just made a snarky remark. I will tell you right now I will never shop at this hardware store and it's pretty obvious that there is poor morale at that particular store. I work in customer service and you're supposed to help out customers not just point to a random place and let them figure it out themselves if that's the case then we just need to make everything computer automated and we don't need grumpy old humans working at hardware stores. seems to be a lot of people like to bring their personal issues to work and vent them out on customers. Great customer service! I went in to buy a work bench that I had seen in the printed ad the week prior. The item was no longer on sale, but they sold it to me for the sale price anyway! It was a $15 difference, so I thought that was very nice of them and going above and beyond. Also, the woman who rang me up was very nice and interracted with my daughter. Overall, it was a great experience and I could tell it's a family owned place. I will be back to this location! read more

As hardware stores go, this is a "traditional" hardware store! The current store is fairly large, but the staff are wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and seem able to help you with everything. I needed a new oven heating element the day after Thanksgiving one year and they had one in stock! I'd pick this place 100% above any of the chain stores.. again I love to support local businesses and the local economy. read more

If you can't find it elsewhere try McLendons, they have it or can steer you right. I love renovating houses and their staff always knows what I am talking about for the unusual, old or different problems that the big stores can't stock to serve. Sometimes it makes me smile to see the staff member is a middle aged woman who really knows their products, an elderly man who knows the answers and good tips, or sometimes a younger person who knows about real hardware and not just the usual little bags of answers. Love the different products that are available that I never heard of before and they were just what I needed.......and cute decor things for fun. Also I like to support a store that still has pancake breakfasts for the community! read more

I have been into McLendon Hardware (Puyallup) twice in the last two weeks to get paint. (I usually buy my paint at Home Depot but thought I would try McLendon) The older lady in the paint department was extremely rude both times and made me feel like I was a great bother (even though when I came into the department she was not helping anyone).
