My husband and I came here recently on a Saturday afternoon and had a positive experience. We normally aren't in the area, so we decided to come here based on high ratings on Google and Yelp based on our location at the time. Walking in, the place itself is pretty plain. There is not much to it, and it looks like a typical Irish divey bar with wooden furniture. We sat ourselves at a high table next to the bar, and our waitress came by right away to take our drink order. We had great service, and she consistently asked us if everything was okay and gave us water refills. There are many different menu options; I decided to try their Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($15) for lunch. The sandwich came with white cheddar, pepper jack, and American cheeses on it, and it also had bacon on sourdough bread. The sandwich was pretty good, but it tasted dry. I wish the sandwich had some aioli or sauce to keep it more flavorful and moist, but the cheeses all mixed well, and the bacon was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad ($15). He enjoyed his salad and thought that the chicken was cooked and seasoned well. Overall, I would come back here because it was clean, we had good service, and the food was good. I would like to order either a Reuben or Mac and Cheese next time. read more

Came here for the first time tonight and had a great experience! Awesome atmosphere and it was super busy! Their food is really good and actually better than I expected. We ordered the bruschetta and chips and salsa for our appetizer. Salsa was great and had just the right amount of spice. Bruschetta was a big hit- it had a lot of garlic, which we loved! I ordered the wings with Thai chili sauce and they were excellent. Their drink menu is pretty good and they offer some nice beers, including Two Brothers. I will definitely come back for the beer and wings! Our server, Danielle, was so sweet and attentive! She took very good care of us. My friends and I love meeting up at McMae's. The food is always delicious and can never go wrong with any choice.

While the drink was good; Jackie or Jacky, the bartender, was not; she displayed inappropriate and reprehensible behavior. After our having three drinks between us, and our playing video games, leaving her a hefty tip; she not only refused to serve us but personally defamed my son to others. This was uncalled for and of a slanderous nature in her description to others of my son's and my behavior at this establishment. Not only will we never go to this place again, but we are considering suing Jackie/Jacky and the establishment for defamation. Sad way to treat patrons at Christmas. read more

We needed a quick meal one night after visiting a relative, but unfortunately this didn't turn out to be it. There was only one server and the place seemed busier than one would expect for a weeknight. It seemed she and the kitchen were having trouble keeping up. I enjoyed the steak nachos, but my wife didn't like the turkey in her wrap at all. My daughter said her wings were fine, and my son ate a couple. He also ordered cheese curds but about half of them had the cheese melted out of them. And the prices seemed a touch high. What a surprise this was! The filet was so tender! Who'da thunk a tavern & grill would secure such delicious filet?! Good job McMae's! Came in tonight for the first time after deciding to try something new in town. To be honest read some reviews providing lower ratings for requiring masks at some time- will say I appreciate that in a business. First all the staff from what i saw was masked when among customers. Not just masked but wearing it properly. So many businesses in town dont - so kudos to the owner on doing the right thing. Now lets talk about the meal. I asked the server what she recommended- and she said the pretzel as a starter and offered a few other entrees depending on my tastes. Im a steak person so i thought id give the medallions a try. The pretzel was perfect. Honestly that alone was the highlight as one of the best ive had anywhere. Warm. Soft inside, and the side of cheese sauce was perfect. Not sure if the sauce is made in house but perfectly complimented it. Now for the entree the medallions were average. I got it medium rare- and although good wasnt as tender as i would have hoped. But for the price it was solid with a generous portion of blue cheese topping. Potatoes were good just needed more salt, and broccoli was perfectly cooked. Don't let the outside appearance fool you! Inside is nice and the food is very good! Nothing frozen and thawed here, just home made goodness! You can tell by the fried pickles that they are hand battered and home made! The coating is like a tempura mix and the pickles inside are huge!! The menu selection is huge too! Love the atmosphere, it's got such a great Irish tavern vibe; Really clean too! The staff was super friendly, we had nice a conversation with our waitress. The beer list is awesome too! The food was awesome! They make everything in house, which is always a huge perk and exactly how it should be. We started with the appetizer sampler because we wanted to indulge and try a bit of everything. The chicken fingers were my favorite! I always manage to be in this area around lunchtime so I've only come here for their lunches. The food and service have always been good. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, and the service is good, but other than the convenience of their close proximity to lunchtime, I don't know if I would go out of my way to come to this place. If I'm close, it's my go-to place, but if I'm not, it's not a place I would seek out for anything special. read more

Been here a few times in the recent past and really like McMae's. The location is right at the SouthEast corner of Sterns & 59. Trust me, it's there. It's in the little strip closest to the bank at the corner. Between Sterns and Oberweis. The reason I mention the location is because I found it difficult to find on our first visit but it's there!!!! Had no idea what to expect when we first visited as we were invited to a birthday party for my sister and this was our first time. When we walked in, I was more than pleased to find a clean, perfectly lit, comfortable ambiance. It's a bar but it's also a restaurant. Like you could totally bring the kiddos here! I found the large group of family and friends at 4 or 5 large tables off to the right when I arrived. It was intimate but nicely set up instead of being at one long table where you can only speak to those sitting around you. We were able to chat with a lot more people and mingle a bit because of the setting. There are some nice TV's and it's a good thing because the Cubs were in the World Series on this particular evening. We had only one server for our large group of probably about 30+. She killed it. No other way to put it. Our server was a damn rock star! We are a needy loud hungry & thirsty bunch and she ran her ass off but made it look like it was nothing. I really appreciate good service as I'm in customer service and have waited tables for years. I ran into my old friend who tends bar here that I have known since practically my high school days. Her little girl who was like 3 the last time I had seen her is now 17 and all grown up. The reason I tell you this is because as busy as it was on the night of our visit, she made time to stop and catch up with me all while keeping every drink full in the house. She's an excellent bartender and also has excellent customer service skills. The service here is excellent and I can only imagine it's because management cares about who represents their brand. Something different for a change of pace. I have recently found a lot of people in these types of roles that don't care or want to be there and it's so clear. They hire very hard working employees who value their employer & patrons and it's obvious. We went back once with a short period of time because we really liked the food and wanted to try more of it and I'm glad we did. We'll be back again soon. Money is just super tight in our home so we don't get to go out that often but when we do next, I think we're gonna hit up McMae's!! read more

Robin is one of the best servers at any restaurant. My kids love when she walks over to help us. Very personable, so nice, and her attention to detail is great. We have not had a bad meal here. Wow! Unbelievable. I went to this bar with some friends. We were sitting there minding our own business when I saw the bartenders not wearing masks, the staff, and possibly the owner not wearing masks either--- I had no problem with this. However, I saw staff put on a mask and go and confront a patron for NOT wearing a mask (while he was drinking a beer at the bar). "Go to your car and get a fucking mask!" I couldn't believe the language, the hypocrisy , and idiocy of the folks there. How dare they not follow their own rules and then yell at another customer like that? I for one have zero dog in that hunt, but this was offensive to me. I will not be giving them my business anymore--- especially for mediocre food and service! Too bad read more

Small local restaurant. I had the Buffalo chicken wrap which was delicious and the fries were so good! My husband had the filet medallions and those cooked perfectly and very tender. The service was good, but once it go crowded it was hard for the waitresses to keep up. I would suggest going at an off time, but so worth the visit! read more

Ordered pickup and was pleasantly surprised how great our food was! Wings and Burger were perfect, followed my optimizations (dressing on side, add cheese) perfectly. I'm vegetarian and they had a veggie burger but they also had a cheese curd burger so I asked them if they could make me a vegetarian cheese curd burger and they said yes it was delicious. It was good service and we didn't even wait that long it was amazing food and everything I could've hoped for for a good dinner. I recommend that you come here for dinner and a party from 2 to 6 people.They have a good amount of food and appetizers and drinks. I would recommend for just a night to eat nothing too fancy it is great and the service was great the food was great everything I could think of was great it was so clean and so nice I would recommend 10/10. read more

Have been eating McMae's food ever since it opened, and most times it is very good. Latest I tried was the Beef Kabobs with Chimchurri sauce, served with Mashed Potatoes. My gosh, it was simply delicious! I thought it would be too filling, but I managed to eat it all! The entree AND the potatoes were so, so good. Jackie--wearing a mask--brought the order out to my vehicle, and was ever so sweet. I will have to remember to add a tip onto the order next time....she is always so helpful. My favorite was always their Mushroom Cheeseburger, but it seems they don't have it now. A little disappointing, but I always, as my friends also do, find something is very good. read more

We recently moved to Bartlett from the West Loop and have been looking for a casual but quality 'corner bar' that we can call our new spot! This is it. We came in last night with our 1-year-old (yes, baby in a 'bar!') and the staff was so welcoming towards our family. Jackie was our server and the bartender and was very attentive to us. We went to McMae's for a friend's birthday celebration. The place would have been empty if it weren't for our party of about 20 people. We ordered food and drinks but the waitress overlooking the dinning room was horrible. About 80% of the time our party had to get up and get their own drinks because our waitress simply ignored our table. The food was nothing to brag about, after all it was bar food. The drinks were blah, as they didn't have a wide range of different beers or hard liquor. Our waitress NEVER came off as very friendly at all. It was like she didn't want to be there at all and believe me, it showed. At the end of the evening everyone was closing out their tabs. No big deal. But I guess after my boyfriend and I left that's when things got ugly. A friend of ours and his girlfriend paid their tab and left the waitress a tip. She proceeded to throw the tip at them and demand more. Need I remind you they had to get up and go to the bar for most of their drinks. She then follows our party out of the bar with a male (we are guessing the owner), where they proceeded to yell, cuss and get in my friends faces. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE customer service. We will never be back and I really shouldn't even be giving this place any stars. read more
