I don't know where my previous review ended up, but it's nowhere to be found. Hmmmm. McMae's is a local restaurant/bar with pretty good food, nice specials and Trivia. A moms' group that I belong to has met here a couple of times and I've been pleased on both visits. I came in another time with the husband, but he wasn't thrilled with the meal he ordered. Most recently we went on 1/2 price and trivia night. I will definitely go back for this combo again. Mister Trivia was hilarious and even though we were awful, he was kind and made some light-hearted jokes. The food was very good. I had filet sliders and had them sub in some crispy onion strings. Good call! The nachos were overwhelming and plenty to share. Another friend had a wrap and loved it. Looking back, there were no complaints. Yes I'd say this one is a winner. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. I was craving pub food and this is in Bartlett so hubby and I decided to try it. We had nachos to start. I wasn't too into these. That's where my minus one star came from. They were not my type of nachos. I like liquid cheese and shredded chicken because it doesn't fall off as easily. This was sprinkle cheese and cube of chicken. I wouldn't order it again I got the filet medallions for dinner. Two filets veggies and potatoes for 15 bucks? I'll try it. I'm glad I did. My friend just told me how terrible he was treated at this very mediocre dive. He's been coming here for over 10 years as a loyal customer and recently was approached by the loser owner for him not wearing a mask. This guest has given him and his establishment thousands of dollars over 10 years, and NO appreciation from the prick owner GREG. The low life bartender ratted on him for not wearing a mask...which was his preference. That low life bartender should've respected her guest who's paid her lots in tips ove the years.I will NEVER GO TO MCMAES ever and will tell everyone I know in Bartlett not to go either. Stopped in after flying into Chicago. It's a small little locals pub, great music great craft beer. Bartender was lively, slightly on the rude side. All the customers inside were friendly and fun. Unquestionably the worst wings I have ever eaten. I noticed they have a $0.50 wing special on Mondays so I ordered 16 (4 of each flavor: garlic parm, bbq, mild & teryaki). They were small, burnt and as dry as the desert heat. They almost tasted as if they had been cooked earlier in the day/night and then cooked again when I placed my order. If they managed to botch chicken wings this badly, I can't imagine ever going back to try anything else off their menu. Probably wise to stick with the beer at this place... although I can't vouch for that either. read more

Really like this hidden gem. They have a really great menu with a couple of drink and food specials each day. I come here sometimes after work with some co-workers. The staff is attentive and it's a small enough place that you won't be forgotten. Prefer this place over the obnoxious bar across the street where the food is awful and the service is hit or miss. read more

I don't know about better than typical bar food. It's very typical and a little pricey. I would come again because I like the greasy burgers. The sweet potato fries were pretty good. What a joke. RIP OFF! After patronizing this place multiple times because there are limited choices in Bartlett, I am DONE. I ordered 2 Jameson and ginger ales, because that is a strong drink and I needed it after a rough day at work. Well these were so full of ice and slim to none Jameson that I didn't even get a buzz after 2! Normally after one I am feeling very good! My previous review of an Old Fashioned mentioned the same thing, waaay too much ice. Learn how to make a proper drink if you are going to call yourself a "bar"! So McMae's, you have robbed me of my money for the last time. If you are a lightweight or simpleton, perhaps this place is for you. (just stick to beer so they can't cheat you out of alcohol by adding ice). read more

I give it 2 stars because the staff is really nice and friendly. The food on the other hand, in my opinion, is awful. We went there a while ago when they first opened. I got soup and a sandwich. The sandwich wasn't very tasty and the soup was just hot water. My husband got a burger and said it was good. We didn't go back again though until this past st Patrick's day. We ordered 2 corned beef sandwiches for pick up . We figured corned beef is corned beef. How can you mess up a classic? Well I'll tell you how. Let's start with the bread. It was greasy and toasted, like a grilled cheese sandwich type of bread. There was some weird kind of cheese on the corned beef sandwich. Never heard of cheese but whatever. The mustard wasn't regular mustard it was like a mayo Dijon. The beef itself was dry. Seriously. It was St Patrick's day. We just wanted your traditional corned beef sandwiches, like you can get anywhere on that day. Had we known they would mess up a classic we would've gone somewhere else. I didn't even eat my sandwich. Cheese on corned beef. Nasty. Never thought anyone would do that if I did I would've said no cheese. We will not come back again. This is our Monday go-to for 50 cent wings and football. Beer menu is decent too. It's a strip mall bar, quiet with people from the neighborhood. You won't hear Usher or Maroon 5 pumping here and you won't find 25 year olds drinking "Titos" either. Great local place. read more

Terrible food, rude manager. My husband ordered the corned beef folded in a potato pancake. The pancake was burnt black...both sides. The corned beef inside was scarce and rubbery. My husband tried a couple of bites in case it got better. It did not. He notified the waiter who immediately told a middle-aged looking woman who we assumed was 'in charge' at that time. She told him to tell us that we would get a ''discount''. My husband asked that his meal be taken off the bill. He did not eat it and it was not edible. Then the manager came over saying she would make him another to take home. WHY? Were they going to make it better this time? He declined, again asking for the reduced check. She looked angry, got up, didn't say a word and left. I ordered the Shepard's pie which was about 1 1/2 cups of gravy, ground beef, 2 carrots and squeeze on potatoes. You could see it came out of a tube. No flavor. $15 for that. No side, salad, soup nothing else. The bill came with the burnt food credited. Plus my husband left a generous tip, always does. I watched the manager as she rushed over to our table to get the money. RUSHED like she was going to find nothing? I just hope she gave the waiter his tip and didn't take it for her loss. He acted like it was his first day and did a good job. We looked at other food being ordered. Nothing looked terrific so we think it is mainly a drinking place with bar food. We've been coming here for a couple of years now. It can get loud and busy on the weekend but it's usually relaxing during the week. I love the music they play and they always have the game on if it's a Chicago team. My husband and I love mostly everything on the menu and they're glad to fix it the way you like it. They get in new craft beers regularly and try to hook you up with one you'll like. If not, they'll get you another! The best part about McMae's is the staff. This is a great neighborhood bar/restaurant, and one of our favorites. We usually order one of their daily specials, and we are never disappointed. Tonight's was chicken milano, and it was delicious. Their homemade manicotti from the menu is also very good if you don't like the special. We've been coming here for years, and the chefs have been consistently good. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there's a large bar that is not separated from the dining tables, and it can get quite loud on occasion. This is my "go to" place for dining when I want to eat out. When I think of a bar-restaurant, I think of typical bar food, but MacMae's offers fresh, creative entrees. Food is delicious, and every item I've had on the menu is very, very good. Restaurant attracts couples, families and people who want to sit at the bar and watch sports. Very friendly atmosphere and servers are all very nice. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to replace the chairs, as they are part of the previous establishment's. Other than that, the place is terrific. I hope their business continues to grow. read more
