I have been to many Drs. since then but my older brother stayed with him driving a couple hours each way to see that Dr. until he retired well into his 80s. He was a kind, gentle, caring man that listened to his patience. Dr. Byington has a similar manner. He isn't Dr. House or some other know-it-all Dr. but he listens and cares and has referred me to a number of specialists who focus on the specific issues. When I wasn't satisfied with the care of a specialist, he found me another who was more proactive. This has happened on a couple occasions. I once had a Dr. who also did clinical research. After going to him for a few years he came in to see me for an appointment and said, "So, are you a new patient?" telling me he didn't have a clue about me and he hadn't looked at the chart to see that he had seen me for a few years. That was my last appointment with that Dr. I have been with Dr. Byington for a decade or two (I really don't know how long) and I appreciate him for listening, kindness, and putting up with me for all these years. As with anything, you are the expert on your own body and need to do your best to take care of it but having a Dr. who will actually take the time to listen, refer you to the experts/specialists when necessary, and advocate on your behalf is also a part of good care. Her depth of knowledge on many different medical related areas is astounding. Equally important to me is the fact that she has a great way of dealing with her patients. She is always willing to take the time to first listen to me and even consider what I feel is the proper diagnosis. However, where she excels is she doesn't just say, no you are wrong I'm going to prescribe this instead of what you want. What she does is she listens to what I have to say and almost every time she patiently explains that while she can see why I think what I think, but in her years of training what the symptoms actually indicate is something different than what seemed obvious to me. In the end every single time she has been dead on in her diagnosis of my ailment. If you're looking for a doctor who is the perfect package of what a doctor should be then look no further than this fine physician because as a doctor she is the total package. I'm praying that she continues to practice medicine until I die someday because I know I will not be able to find another doctor to fill her mighty big shoes.

He did such a wonderful job repairing my forearm! Altho I'm still in OT, my progress of almost full use of my arm and hand wouldn't have been possible without his wonderful surgical skill and follow up. Evidently this was because 3 years ago he recommended I have a $1000 gum treatment. I personally had no recollection of him ever making this suggestion and I never had any complaints or issues with my gums. However, he told me that I was failing to comply with procedures. I was literally in awe that this was happening. He also mentioned that I am young (35) and that in 5 years who knows where his business will be as he plans on retirement......sure. This the first time I've experienced anything like this. Now as far as procedures go, I'd say it's on par with any other dentist. They did a fair job numbing things up, but it's going to hurt like crazy once the shots wear off. Take your chances if you want, but if you are from the area I'd go check out some different places. The rest of my family has had great success with Norman Family Dentistry in Ada. So I think that's where I'll be heading off to.

As for the office staff...they are just as personable! They have 2 different locations in Holland and both locations treat their patients with comfort and care. They are friendly and show compassion for whatever your reason is to have to see the Doctor. I have seen Barb for about 5 - 6 yrs now. I not a big doctor person, but I truly have a lot of respect and trust for her and her professional opinions on treatments. EXTREMELY HAPPY!

Dr. Bouwens listened to what I had to say, offered me good advice, and was genuinely concerned for my well-being. I actually learned things instead of feeling like I was just giving him all the answers (which is what I've experienced multiple times elsewhere). For the first time in a very, very long time I felt like I was speaking to a doctor instead of a businessman with a medical degree. He is knowledgeable, polite, kind, and helpful. I highly recommend him to anyone!
