McGinley to my rescue! Yesterday I heard a bang and my electric went out. Some lights came back…read moreon but others didn't. I went to the basement to check the circuits and discovered water on the floor around my heater and my new Thermostat also had stopped working. I called McGinley HVAC and spoke to Ryan and he quickly got me on the schedule for the next available technician. In about 45 minutes Charles arrived and immediately got to work on the leak and replacing the thermostat (which got fried from the power surge). My electrician wasn't calling me back so I asked Charles if he or McGinley had any electrician recommendations. He gave me the electrician's name and I called him. Within 15 minutes he was here and he found what was causing the power outage issue and fixed it. Words can't express how grateful I am to McGinley's team for their prompt and efficient service. I had questions about rebates for heat pumps and he had answers about rebates, rough costs and advantages of the new heat pumps. He reiterated that we didn't need to change out our current equipment but if we feel it's important for environmental reasons there are good options. We'll definitely be using them going forward, and have a fall furnace checkup scheduled.

He stated that the part would need to be replaced before he could see if anything else was wrong; likely setting me up for costly repair after repair. He gave no useful information. In my opinion, he was only there to get the service call fee, he had no intention of providing actual service as it was 4:30p on Friday afternoon. Even though I had no interest in using Creative Comforts for any additional work, I still waited for the office to call with a follow-up from the service visit. I ended up calling them and the office acted like they had no idea who I was at first. I asked to be phoned with repair costs and they sent an email instead. I called another company, Donnelly who waived the diagnostic fee and thoroughly assessed my system for FREE. It was not the igniter...the whole unit is faulty as it is over 30 years old. The safety switch was preventing the unit from running.

They fixed our problem super quick by jumping the condenser but told us that that it was a temporary fix and they didn't know how long it would last. I asked for a quote for a completely new condenser unit. After some research their price seemed very fair. They responded quickly and were out installing by Monday or Tuesday. Installation, including moving the condenser further away from the house's gas line took less than a day. They even came back later to change out the thermostat to a more modern one. We were trying to get a smart thermostat but we didn't have the C wire which the thermostat needs for constant power. They tried more than one solution and were there for hours. Unfortunately they couldn't make it work. But I was happy with the effort and it showed they cared about the service they were providing.
