McGinley to my rescue! Yesterday I heard a bang and my electric went out. Some lights came back…read moreon but others didn't. I went to the basement to check the circuits and discovered water on the floor around my heater and my new Thermostat also had stopped working. I called McGinley HVAC and spoke to Ryan and he quickly got me on the schedule for the next available technician. In about 45 minutes Charles arrived and immediately got to work on the leak and replacing the thermostat (which got fried from the power surge). My electrician wasn't calling me back so I asked Charles if he or McGinley had any electrician recommendations. He gave me the electrician's name and I called him. Within 15 minutes he was here and he found what was causing the power outage issue and fixed it. Words can't express how grateful I am to McGinley's team for their prompt and efficient service. I made multiple good-faith attempts to resolve this directly before disputing the charge. This experience reflects poor internal communication and refusal to correct a clear error. They also operate under the name Liberty Bell Fuel Oil.

The white carpeting upstairs was spotless (ha, maybe even cleaner) after he left, so I know his guys worked carefully removing the old unit and shuffling equipment around. Yesterday I had a plumber install a 50 gallon hot water heater for $2100. There was no problem with the wiring. Adam Mechanical was just trying to take advantage of me and have me pay 3 times more than I should have! And so please be warned about what kind of company this is.

So we can't be fooled. The tech tried to tell us that we needed to replace the control board. That's a $2,000 repair. We said no, but still had to pay $300 for his service call. Then we called a competitor who showed us that our problem was a hypo-allergenic heater filter with a weave so tight that the heater shut down rather than pump more air through that filter. It cost us $150 for the other guy's site visit and $35 at Lowe's for a new, less tightly woven filter. Problem solved. Don't go to Scatton's.

I scheduled a diagnostic service call. The sketchy looking tech arrived and spent less than ten…read moreminutes with the unit and reported to me that the igniter wasn't working. He stated that the part would need to be replaced before he could see if anything else was wrong; likely setting me up for costly repair after repair. While I was questioning him about replacement costs and other potential issues, he was responding with vague answers and kept referring back to collecting the fee for the service call before the visit was even complete. He gave no useful information. In my opinion, he was only there to get the service call fee, he had no intention of providing actual service as it was 4:30p on Friday afternoon. Even though I had no interest in using Creative Comforts for any additional work, I still waited for the office to call with a follow-up from the service visit. I ended up calling them and the office acted like they had no idea who I was at first. I asked to be phoned with repair costs and they sent an email instead. I called another company, Donnelly who waived the diagnostic fee and thoroughly assessed my system for FREE. It was not the igniter...the whole unit is faulty as it is over 30 years old. The safety switch was preventing the unit from running.
