Fabulous place! Ambiance and beer were more than perfect. Our waitress was the spitting image of punctual and friendly, and was intimately familiar with their beers. She even brought us some samples when we weren't sure what to order (the Sunflower IPA was amazing!) Their menu is a little lackluster, I'll be honest, and my burger came out more medium than the medium-rare the kitchen promised, however, their blue cheese was abundant and delectable and my husband said his salad was top-notch and he'd order the exact same thing next time. We were also privy to some live music while we sat inside and it was a great set up. We'll definitely make this our new go-to place now that we're in Salem! read more

Guess we hit at a bad time, service was agonizingly slow. Probably the most disappointing meal we've had at a McMenamins, and we've been to quite a few. The Cajun tots were so salty they were barely edible after dusting off as much of the coating as possible. They "upgraded" my 1/2 Salad to a full but I really only wanted 1/2 so food was wasted. Drinks good... service sucks. Understaffed for the eclispe... had 3 people working at first. We were the 3rd group of people to come in. Got drinks and then they had a rush of people. Place was completely packed.. we ordered sandwiches and wraps... no cooktime for that. Boon's Treasury is the perfect mix of food, classic tavern atmosphere & folk music. I always go there hungry & find the staff eager to make sure I've got whatever I need. Not on a stampede but in a real connected way. Always attentive & sincere as well as friendly. The food is prepared fresh with an eclectic menu that can vary (seasonal) along with standard, staple tavern fare. Boon's have lots of choices for picky palettes like mine. I've tried several items & they were all superb with great service. First time trying this McMenamins Boon's Treasury and it will be our LAST TIME eating here too. My husband and I want to try out new and different locations each Friday to celebrate the weekends. Oh boy!! Let me tell you. The food was good, but the waitresses there were so rude, abrupt and short with us that we felt like we were not welcome there to spend our money and time. We asked the waitresses a question and they make us feel like we're bothering or burdening them. I know how hard it is to work in the hospitality industry but when the customers chose your establishment, that means the customers put in an effort to drive to your business to patronize (dine or eat) at your location. Treat them like they're your family coming over for dinner. Advice for the waitresses there at the Boon's Treasury McMenamins.....if you don't like your job, then don't work there and make our first time experience at your establishment so terrible!!! I been going to almost all McMenamins and is really awesome how every place is so different and the service is really good. But this place was not to the standards with their costumer service like other McMenamins I been. The place was empty so I would figure that the waiter would be free to assisted us and serve us but that wasn't the case. We waited almost almost an hour for our check, because they forgot we were in there. I was in a group of 5 people how can you not tell their people inside the restaurant when we were the only ones there eating and having some drinks. Other then that that the food was ok. And the beer was really good. My advice would be hired better staff. read more

Setting: The atmosphere of the dining areas were high quality and more than pleasing. Service: The waiting for a group of six people ordering two burgers a hotdog and 3 raps took around 40 minutes, personally to much time. The servers were nice, yet not on track and focused. The restaurant was not nearly crowded, so drinks not being filled for 10 to 20 minutes in between shouldn't have happened. Food: Being in a group of six people you prepare for a longer wait. Ordering 2 burgers, hotdog and 3 wraps took a total of 38 minutes. To receive the food after the wait and find both burgers were Burt (both cooked 'well') was extremely disappointing. The other wraps had little to no chicken in them making them not nearly worth the price or the wait. As a side, we ordered fries, which none of us would recommend. They were dry, and tasteless. Pricing: Both burgers were about $12.50 with a side of fries which I found over priced for the size of the burger and the amount of condiments used. The wraps were around $10.00-12.00 and should have been priced around 6.00 for lack of chicken and the over use of the tasteless seasonings. Final Thought: With the full experience of McMenanins in mind. I personally would not recommend the restaurant because of the high prices, slow service and low quality food. read more

Boon's Treasury isn't quite the treat it was a decade ago before McMenamin's bought the place. But at least they didn't refurbish it like they typically do with their properties. Menu is typical McMenamin's fare - not bad, not great - but usually some pretty good choices. Best part is the ambiance - it's about the oldest building in Salem. Great microbrew beer - be sure to ask about the specials (they'll let you sample any or all before you make your choice). I hate playing the race card but SERIOUSLY, I felt like me and my friend got treated like 2nd class citizens because we were not white. It felt like everyone else got better service. The story begins like this, my friend wanted to treat me to dinner so we choose boon's. I knew the parking was going to be an issue. There is 8 parking spots and parking on a busy sidewalk. We walked from the marion parkade. (3 blocks) Upon arriving at the front door, we were not greeted by anyone or took care by any wait staff. (At this point the restaurant had 5 people that were just enjoying their meals) . I had to ask if we should seat ourselves or not. I mean if it is going to be a seat yourself restaurant, at least put a sign out. Fast forward, we sat at a table with nothing, yes not even menus for 7 minutes. A guy comes by, drops off menus, and ask us what to drink. I told him water. Today was freaking hot, I just wanted some ice water to cool down. The ice water came like another 15 minutes. We then got order, and it took like 20 minutes. Some lady drop off our food. Then the waitress/waiter never came back for a hour plus. Our water was never refill. Please correct me if I am wrong. I saw the wait staff bring the tabs to people's table. My friend had to go up and wait in front of the bar to pay our bill. It probably took us another 10 minutes to get our bill. The waitress/waiter was just busy making drinks.....OK.... This place is either a) understaff b) hires mediocre staff c) just lacks of potential Random info: - Since this place is in a 'historic' building, the location itself is not disable friendly. Of the two McMillan's better than the other one in South Salem. The food always seems a little bit better prepared than the other establishment and not by much. I get dragged in here because my friends say they want to have a good beer and yes it's good beer and drinks food I'm not quite sure I've eaten here a few times and it is better than the South Salem 1 so why can't they both be the same I ask you what the other establishment for doing things better than this place but that's what it is read more

I think they might have a problem with racism. I'm not one to call people out on this but I can't think of any other reason we were treated so poorly by all but one employee there. Sat down and ordered, food and drinks were prompt then nothing.......no one ever came back to check on us, inquire about refills, etc. We had to request our bill twice by going inside to get it. Stopped in for a drink- and maybe a snack- watched one table leave as there food hadn't come yet- I was seated at the bar and it was pretty obvious that the food hadn't been started yet as you have a clear view into the kitchen- I ordered a Tanqueray and tonic-- (yeah, I know it is a beer place but . . .) and the young lady behind the bar had no idea what that was- "the manager or someone who has gone to the classes has to make the mixed drinks" so finally after ten minutes at the bar I had a drink served- I passed on food after watching the level of service- at one point the manager even told the staff to stop answering the phone- they obviously didn't want anyone else coming in- and they weren't that busy- it was pretty pathetic. I've gotta say, the last three times I've eaten lunch at Boon's Treasury, I've been quite disappointed. I won't be eating there again. The food selection is small, the delivery slow, cleanliness questionhable, and what should be hot is often cold. It may be that I've mostly looked at Boon's as a lunch place, when I should think of it as a middlin' bar. I will probably not come back to this restaurant again. The reason being was the hamburger buns were like hockey pucks and super dry. The meat was not cooked to order, and the fries were cold. The beer is the big disappointment because it has steadily declined in quality maybe because they took the beer off of fermentation to early, or because the lines were dirty. Who can say. I Gave this place another chance. Even more horrible than the previous experience. Had my 2 year daughter with me. We waited (literally) over 50 minutes before our food arrived and that was after asking several times. They finally took us seriously when my daughter said, "yummies, eat, hungie (hungry)". I drove by this place many times as a kid growing up in Salem and I didn't know it was now a McMenamins until my most recent trip. They have burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups and hot dogs similar to other McMenamins, as well as their delicious beers! They do $8 growler fills on Mondays. The outdoor brick patio is adorable and you'd never know you were in between two busy downtown streets. They make their own veggie burgers and actually have two varieties on the menu. But their French fries are my personal favorite - hand cut and perfectly salted. It would be fun to check out their live music offerings. There's a great old tale about John Fahey peeing in the parking lot of this place long ago and I bet there are even better stories I haven't heard yet. read more

The service here is so horrible. Waited 10 min for my beer, 5 min for straw, another 5 min for mustard, and another 10 min to fill my lemonade. The waitress didn't check on us one time. I think this place is a solid three stars. Their food is tasty, but the wait time was a little much. They definitely have good drink selections but as others mentioned, it takes quite a bit of time to actually receive them. They did accommodate our big group which was much appreciated. Boon's is my neighborhood joint - love it! Good food, great booze, lovely people! Leslie is fabulous. The live music is consistently fine. Food specials are yummy and the ambiance is comfortable and artful. Four stars instead of five just because sometimes service is a little slow, but always friendly. My friends and I will keep coming, especially during the summer to take advantage of the great outdoor seating. Love you Boon's. read more

This place brings me back. This was one of my favorite places to chill out and relax during college. I had my first craft beer here. I had my first scotch here. I just loved coming in the crisp autumn evenings to have some grub and take in a local band or musician. The service here has always been hit or miss. You never know what you are going to get. The food, while relatively basic, I have always found solid. I especially like their shoestring fries- though I will admit they may not be everyone's cup of tea. I think I have been in here every week for over a year. Usually stop by for $8 growler fills on Mondays and then stop in for lunch or dinner another time during the week. Their bugers are huge and tasty. Love rhe fries. Check their specials, there are usually some tasty sandwhiches or burgers not on the main menu that you won't want to miss.
