Stayed overnight at the hotel. At noon the window washer crew comes and spatters my entire car with soapy water that dries in spots helped by the sun. The ill mannered and ill bred head of the crew also brings his three large stupid dogs off leash that run all over the property at a GOLF COURSE!!! Who does that? I had a reservation set here for my group of 7 people and we walked a mile from the beach to the restaurant and when we got there the manager was extremely rude to us. One of the girls in my group was wearing a tube top and the manager refused service to us because she viewed it as a "swim suit". The manager then proceeded to say that this was her favorite day of the year because she gets to kick everyone out. Late breakfast for two here yesterday. The location is great, right near the beach and a nice golf course view. Interior is classic McMenamins: dark woodwork, big bar, their artwork on the walls. Very nice setting with Baroque music playing in the background. Their breakfast menu is pretty limited, the specialty seems to be the eggs Benedict, so I ordered the smoked salmon version and a Chai. The Chai arrived promptly, but sadly was gone by the time our food arrived. My wife had French toast. The eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked with a nice portion of smoked salmon beneath. Not so good: the hollandaise was curdled/separated (see photo). Gosh, those Cajun tater tots are really pretty wonderful - I ate every one on my plate. My wife said her French toast was just OK, although it did come with real maple syrup. I'd like to come back for lunch or dinner and try some of their entrees - next time! read more

I've always been a fan of Mcmenamins. This Gearhart location is no different. It's charming and the staff are friendly and kind. If you're in the area this is your spot for take out pizza and drinks. They are doing their part to keep everyone safe too. Masks, sanitizer, and easy ways to order take out. The pizza was yummy. They have a terrific cheese blend and a splendid thin crust that I enjoy. I have been to plenty of mcmenamins as well as the location in Tacoma Washington numerous times and have never had such bad service. Came in and was sat on the patio with one other party. Waited for 30 mins with no menus or waiter/waitress EVEN AFTER asking a bartender for some help. Watched the other party of 2 be helped 3-4 times within the time we were sitting outside and tried multiple times to get his attention. If I had the time to ask for a manager or names I would have. The atmosphere was cozy and pleasant, but it seemed understaffed for a Saturday for the lunch crowd, eg 12 noon to 2pm. It took an hour from start to finish. It was puzzling that the hostess had us wait 15 minutes for a table when there were plenty of empty tables. I think she was trying to pace in-flow due to low staffing. Half hour after ordering, my tuna salad sandwich arrived but was rather bland. It seemed a long wait for just 2 cold sandwiches. The turkey sandwich is a favorite of my spouse's, so he enjoyed his meal. We like McMenamin's as you can rarely go wrong with them. This particular restaurant is connected to the hotel/golf resort and there's no other game in town, so lack of competition makes their food and service ho-hum compared to other McMenamin restaurants. read more

We stayed three nights at the Inn and ate several times at Sand Trap Pub. The food was good, maybe a bit better than pub food. Unfortunately the service was bad. At breakfast we felt the staff was annoyed we were even there. We were not served coffee or refills promptly, our food took a very long time, then we waited a very long time for the bill. Dinner was a bit better, but still not great. Again, good food but not great service. I would think during summer season they could do better if they want return business. This was a great experience. I find McMenamins are either hit or miss both with food/drinks and their service. This was one of those times that was a hit! The service was excellent and the apps/food were great. We had a large party and were well-attended to. We had a variety of items on the menu from pizzas to burgers and sandwiches. We also ordered many apps and each was very delicious. The drinks were also very tasty! We all appreciated the whiskey recommendations for our various Manhattans, whiskey sours, and Old Fashions. Lastly, it must be noted that the setting of this particular McMenamins is SO nice. It sits right on a golf course, has phenomenal patio or deck seating options, and has a nice big fireplace inside if you need to warm up. While it's not in Seaside, it's also only about a 7 minute drive away providing an alternative option should the other Seaside restaurants/bars get packed. read more

The absolute worst service I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Entered the restaurant and sat at the bar. After 10 minutes we still had not had a waiter even greet us. We asked and were told there was not a bartender on duty. So we went back to the hostess and asked if we should get a table. Keep in mind less than 10 tables had customers so the place was pretty empty. The hostess told us it would be a 5 minute wait. So we just went downstairs to the lower bar to have a beer. Fairly typical McMenamins fare and service, mediocre at best. The building and view of Gearhart Golf Links, the oldest course west of the Mississippi, is wonderful, but the service was slow and my burger and fries sub-par, excuse the pun. We sat on the veranda overlooking the golf course after an OGA Senior Pro-Am event on a beautiful, calm, mild July afternoon. It took forever for a server to greet us and take our drink order as was the case the rest of our meal even though there were very few customers seated. My Bacon Cheeseburger ($16) came with cheddar cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and their secret sauce as well as fries of tots. I got the fries and asked for grilled onion instead of red onion. When by meal arrived, the red onions were still there and there was barely a trace of grilled onions even though they up-charged me $1.50 them without telling me. The fries were few, burnt to a crisp, and barely warm, but the burger itself was OK, not great. I have been to several McMenamins and have been unimpressed with the service and food overall. With tip, my burger, fries, and a beer ($6.50 for a 12-ounce glass) cost me over $25, a bit much for what I got and a poor overall value. My friend and I drove to Gearhart for our McMenamins passport stamps. They weren't crowded, and we had prompt, attentive service. Our server was lovely. She answered all our questions and brought as many beer samples as we wanted. I had the Goddess salad with wild salmon and small truffle fries. Friend had the Aztec salad. Everything was tasty. Two stars taken away: (1) I'm lactose intolerant and all but 4 menu items have dairy. Sure, I can ask for no cheese on my sandwich or salad, but taking 25% of the ingredients off a dish and then paying full price gets annoying. (2) My friend is tracking calories/nutrition and the information wasn't very accessible. She didn't have much luck on the McMenamins app, and the restaurant didn't have a sheet of nutritional info for her to look at. We've lived in Gearhart for nearly 6 years and without a doubt McMenamins has reached an all time low. Tonight we stood in line waiting to be seated behind a family of 5 at 5 PM. Plenty of available tables. After 15 minutes they were finally seated. A line to the door had formed in the meantime. When I asked to be seated at a table in the bar we were told she had just seated a table of 5 and it would be another 20 minutes. WHAT!?! How do you run a bar with 20 minute waits between seatings. We left - for the last time. We have been met with this level of non service here in the past. Never again. Went to the Seaside golf course restaurant. Seated ourselves. Greeted immediately. Fast friendly service and wonderful food. McMenamins is not representing Gearhart well at all. Very disappointing. read more

The Sand Trap is always a solid place to visit when visiting Seaside. They are just your typical McMenamins as far as their food offerings are concerned. It is worth noting that when I went, they did not offer RC Cola as an option. Their food is well priced for what you get and the staff is generally friendly and offer good service. At the end of the day, this is a McMenamins and nothing to write home about. read more

The restaurant staff went to extra efforts to seat us at one table, and we were completely happy with our experience! Came in with two friends and were seated after a minimal wait (1:30 on a Saturday). Staff had to wipe down our table, which they left super wet, so we had to wipe it down again for ourselves. Ordered a cider, fries for sharing, and a 19th hole sandwich with no veggies. Meal came and all was delicious. The sandwich was particularly good. No "wow" factor to the experience (hence 4 stars), but would easily come back. Our waiter was super confused when the food came about who ordered what. Said he was very tired. Just terrible! Years past. this place had consistently bad food. They improved, but sadly, backslid for the worst meal I've had in years. Imagine what a middle school version of fish tacos would be- two cold flour tortillas, each containing a single, overcooked , fried fish stick the size of your lring finger with a tablespoon of cole slaw and a handful of tortilla chips with no salsa - for $19. Then wait 45 min for it, and then try to get the waitresses attention. Ordered salsa, a Costco plastic sample cup size that seemed like grocery store salsa from a glass jar- for $3. Got the check and no waitress. Complained to the manager, who did cut the bill in half after having me wait 15 minutes more. That last gesture elevated the rating from 1 to 2 stars. First let me say how disappointed I am to have to write this after going to Mcmenamin's for over 25 years. After much deliberation between myself and my wife I relented and agreed to go to McMenamin's on St Patty's Day (which was also on a Friday) with our children. I ordered my usual Ruby Ale but this time something was different. It was more opaque looking and tasted watered down and flat. Classic bottom of Keg look and taste. No big deal. I told our server and stopped drinking it. I waited, waited, waited. And the beer never showed up. I was about to go directly to the bar when our food came. I reminded him again about my beer. I finished my meal which was the Irish Ruben Special. Nothing special about it. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Wasn't great and definitely not bad. Just ok. Finally when he brought me the check he told me that the bartender poured me the last beer in the keg!!!! I couldn't believe my ears and definitely never expected them to admit to it?!!? Why on earth would a bar tender do that and then admit to doing that?!?! Incompetence. The bar wasn't busy but either way the right thing to do would be to tell me and ask if i wanted another beer. Not serve me a watered down, flat beer! And the best part was they admitted their incompetence or perhaps ignorance and then still charged me for the awful beer. What a joke. Ever since COVID I have noticed that the service industry went noticeably downhill. It's the norm now to have sloppy bad food and shitty service. Every time we go out it's $150 and Im disappointed at the end. Shameful. PS: My wife order the $25 corn beef and cabbage. Presentation score - 0 Taste score - 0. I wish that I took a picture but I was too busy chasing my toddler and keeping my 1 year old from choking on all the food her cousin was giving her. There was one carrot and one potato with a slab of what apparently was corn beef. She described it as tough and lacking flavor. She had to cut the slab into pieces to soak in the broth in an attempt to make the corn beef edible. My wife has worked in the restaurant business for 15 years. She is not one to complain and still gives 20% tips when the service/food is subpar. She is empathetic to the cause I guess you could say. Overall, I still love McMenamin's but will stop going to the sand trap. Too many bad experiences at this point. Spotted this McMenamin's hotel while driving back from Cannon Beach to Seattle and stopped to explore the grounds and get our McMenamin's passport stamps! We enjoyed a Ruby beer in the Sand Trap Pub (outdoors since our pup was with us) and the lady at the bar was pretty great :) I took a couple of stars off just because no one ever came outside to ask if we wanted anything else or if we wanted to order food. If we do come back to this McMenamin's, I'd much rather have my beer and a quick snack at the Sand Bar located in the golf course, the view was unbeatable and the guy who was there was super nice. I just wish we'd had more time to stay there a bit longer. read more
