many of the reviews i read for any MCMENAMINS talk about the once you've seen one you've seen them all idea... when it comes to food and drink, i absolutely agree, and i know when you're coming into a restaurant that's probably what you're looking for... however, i think MCMENAMINS will always serve as the MCDONALDS of the northwest for me. a consistent spot where i know my tots will always be properly cajuinized, my ruby will always be available, and i will always be able to leave with another stamp on my passport. nothing here will blow you away - but i think that's okay. sunnyside especially has always been friendly and i enjoy striking up convos about the bigger locations' events and EDGEFIELD'S brews when sitting at the bar. This is a mcmenamins pub. Overall good beer and typical pub fare. Mcmenamins have been continuing to brew new beers while maintaining some tried and true favorites. Be sure to check the seasonals for new beers and ciders. As other reviews have noted this in a strip mall, but the pub has a very comfy feel and it's easy to enjoy a pint with friends. The one caveat is the tables by the main door get blasted with cool air when the door opens.. I recommend any booth though. Tonight our server was delightful. She brought us samples, made adjustments for special orders and all with a smile. The sidecar cocktail and ciders were the hit tonight, but their Ruby and Terminator stout are favorites. Truly, the best place to have a great beer is a neighborhood pub. Not as flashy as many of the McMenamin locations, they still fill a necessary niche in the enjoyment of your favorite adult beverage. Stopped by here for lunch with my family. We stood at the sign waiting to be seated for about 8 - 10 minutes as the wait staff ignored us and filled to go orders. Finally a woman approached us, apologized for the wait, pointed to an empty table with a window, and said she would sit us there. A male busboy with long hair walked up and said we would have to wait longer, he promised two women on the phone that he would put their name on the list. I told him the other woman told us we could sit there and he said he would speak to her. He came back and said we had to sit in the back in the corner. I've gone to McMenamins in the past, and the food was a lot better. The food wasn't very good. I think they cooked the hamburger ahead of time and just warmed it up. It wasn't freshly made. It was super dry. They didn't ask me how I wanted my burger cooked. I won't be going back to this McMenamin's and probably not any other McMenamin's. With my husband at the hospital across the road, I grabbed a room at the hotel and a late night meal at Sunnyside Pub. Greetings were kind and I got my blackberry cider quickly, but 20-25 minutes go by and nobody takes my order. After reading Yelp about this, I finally go to the bar and say I would like some help because I've been waiting over 20 minutes. I saw others get seated and helped, so I was confused by that. Sure enough, my server is there within a minute. He was really nice and everything, but I just wanted to order. By the time I do order, I get my meal to go because it is almost 11pm by now and I would rather eat my meal in my hotel room and then conk out..... I have noticed that this is kind of a thing at McMenamin's establishments. You get seated and get your drinks quickly, but getting someone to get your food order is a challenge. Maybe the big plan is to make you drink and wait so you order more food? Whatever the ploy is, don't make me wait to eat.... read more

I ask if they can do lettuce wrapped for the burger and he says "yeah". I get the burger and they used garnish lettuce and they only put it on the bottom. he says, "yeah I told them what you wanted and that how they made it, I can bring you another peice of lettuce if you want..." then he brings me my honey mustard which is full of spicy Dijon. which is something that you should warn someone about.... also, my vodka cran had ZERO vodka in it... so I complain. then it gets atrocious... seriously? I make a couple valid complaints, and the server Jordan doesnt apologize, just says "oh ok", then walks away and then mocks me to another server (i mean rolling eyes, making facesit at me and repeating what I said to him but sarcastically, and I know cause I can read lips).... it took a lot of control for me to not make a scene... then we leave, and call in to complain to the manager and she just offers us a voucher which we took, but I dont know if ill ever use it, I know if that lazy, rude and condescending server is there, I will turn around and walk out... The website says, "Off center from the Town Center at Clackamas Mall." What does that mean, off center? Does it mean at an odd angle, or could it mean across the freeway and no where near Town Center? Alas, it is the later that is correct. It's in a little mini-mall near an urgent care center, on the east side of 205. The mall is west of 205. Off center. It took us a looooong time to get our lunch. And per usual McMenamins, it was totally uninspired, bland and drippy. Sandwiches shouldn't drip. Service was perfunctory. Overall not worth returning. There is a bar further east on Sunnyside, McCool's, that has a much better Happy Hour, great service, and the food, while not gourmet, is much better. If you are working at the hospital and want a quick beer on your lunch break (not that I recommend that, it's bad, don't do that), I guess it is convenient for that purpose, but the slow service and uninteresting food makes it low on my list of places to visit on my precious lunch break. read more

The establishment we all know and love in Oregon. I do have to comment tonight on the fact the the staff was busting their *** on a very busy Friday night. I see people complain and moan, but as I sit at the bar, I see how hard they are working as I enjoy my beer. They have a tiny kitchen with all homemade fair. The food is the same, the beer is the same (okay food, great beer). I have never been a fan of McM food, but by all means it is not bad food. I see that they try to use fresh ingredients, and they appear to keep their fry oil clean. All McM are different, and I believe should be judged thusly. Enjoy it for what it is, but this McM is one of the better ones when it comes to service. Hard working staff, tip them well, only at the bar can you actually see how hard they are working. read more

I've been going to McMenamins locations throughout Oregon and Washington for 20 years. I know what to expect. Some locations run perfectly (e.g this one, Kennedy School and most others) and others are dreadfully broken (Anderson School in Bothell). At this location on a busy evening, I was lucky to find a seat. Was greated immediately. Beer and food brought quickly. Food was was on one hand, what was expected (grilled jalapeño cheese sandwich) and exceptionally awesome on the other (Cheddar & Potato soup - I want more!). When my beer got low they asked if I wanted more - and unlike in days past when it was only Ruby, Hammerhead and a couple others, now there are (finally) many other good brew choices. I don't know what it is about McMenamins. I like most of their food, I like the beer, but their service is crappy. I think the Sunnyside one is the worst I have been to though and it was no different when I visited the other night. My friends already had a table when I arrived and when I did the waiter didn't even come over to me for about ten minutes. When he did make it over, his response after I asked for something was that he would have made it over five minutes ago but he wasn't sure if I was going to order. Wasn't sure? He should have asked when I sat down! This is not my first time experiencing this kind of treatment at this establishment. During my visit, I also noticed that there was hardly a waiter anywhere in the main eating area. Its like they had a secret poker game in the back and had to take turns to check on the customers. Now you are probably wondering if I even have anything good to say about this place and I do. Despite the bad service, the food and beer are still good. When I eat here, I get the Maria's Masterpiece sandwich with turkey, bacon, onions, swiss cheese and secret sauce. It is delicious and a side of tots with ranch makes it better. Also, no one has a better beer than the Ruby. This is probably one of the reasons I even come to McMenamins because there is nothing like a Ruby ale. I don't mind other McMenamins, Edgefield is always fun during the summer, but I will pass on Sunnyside until the service is better. read more

Had something new today! The Jalepenio Popper Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It was fantastic. If you like poppers you will love this. It is a grilled cheese but inside is cream chesse and jalapenios. A great place for an after work drink. The staff are all lovely people and the food seems to always exceed expectations. The atmosphere is just right and perfectly encapsulates the Portland vibe. While other McMenamins locations may be more "trendy," this low key spot always seems to do the trick. My husband absolutely loves their sandwiches and I couldn't recommend them anymore myself. I will definitely be returning with friends and family. DO NOT FORGET TO TRY THEIR RUBY DRINK ON TAP. Their ruby will leave you coming back again and again. read more

I've come to this McMenamins location a number of times now. The servers have always been welcoming when I've walked in. But... Holy moly is the service slow. Always has been. Sitting at the bar with an empty pint glass watching the bar staff just walk by without asking if I'm doing ok is frustrating. It is what it is.....but that's ok! Sort of 2.5-3 star place. While McMennimens in general is no longer a go-to place for me, this one has been around over 20 years and despite being in a strip mall, seems to be pretty well run. Lots of staff turnover, but that's normal at these places. I basically don't order food here anymore after several experiences in the past with cleanliness, but for drinks I'm still glad to come here if I'm in Clackamas and meeting with people. They've come a long way with their seasonal offerings for beer, and a friend and I stopped in the other night to catch up and had some house Hogshead whiskey and Angry Reindeer IRA, which was quite good. At $5.75 a pint it's rather laugh inducing however. You aren't that well renowned for beer and it's a price gouge. Anything over $4.50-5 is really pushing it..........even in Portland. Overall, nice place to relax in a booth and catch up with friends. They have a tiny kitchen so it can get backed up in a hurry when they're busy. I had great service this time. Out of all the Mcmenamins I have been to, this one is the worse one. I don't know what it is, but it ain't Mcmenamins. The food is terrible, small portions, and service is questionable. A group of us ordered cajun tator tots and spinach dip. I was shocked when both of them arrived at very small portions. They were very very salty and not very flavorful. Is it because it's located in the Clackamas area, who knows??? The only thing they got right was the beer. Me think not to come back to this dump. read more
