The staff were all SO NICE. The hospital itself was clean and organized! The vet tech (I don't know if she told us her name but she was amazing), and Dr. Murdock was straight to the point, patient, quick and both made sure we left with a clear solution (and different ones if others things would've happened). The pricing wasn't bad at all, we ended up getting 50% off our first exam too. For calming meds, probiotics/diarrhea meds + the first wellness exam ended up being a little over $100. The kennel suggested we redo the vaccinations they didn't have a record of. I called McMonigles because they had great reviews. Bonnie at their clinic understood the problem right away, checked with the doctor to make sure what we wanted to do was safe for Pippa, got her in the next day, and worked with the kennel to make sure they got what they needed. Anyone can make mistakes; it's how they deal with them that matters. McMonigle Veterinary Hospital made a pretty huge mistake, giving us a significantly higher dosage of a medication than the vet had prescribed. Unfortunately, their reaction to this mistake was to brush it off and act like it didn't matter. It wasn't until the next day that the vet researched and found out that luckily the higher dosage was still within an acceptable range, but that left us with a full day of uncertainty and a very unwell dog. At no point in this did they apologize for the mistake, and in the end they admitted they didn't even have the right dosage of medication available; we had to take the prescription to another pharmacy. read more

I've never had so much trouble finding a decent Vet! We had to change vets because we moved from Seattle to Renton and were not happy with the other vet we'd tried in Renton (review on my profile). McMonigle came to us on the recommendation of Dr. Jason Goodwin of Gentle Hands in-home euthanasia service when he helped us with our elder cat's passing. We have taken my kitten and now my two dogs to see McMonigle, with one cat yet to meet them so we would have been really good customers. Their office is clean and bright and cheerful. Edie, at the front desk is really sweet and helpful. both doctors we saw, a female for our kitten and Dr. Monigle (Jr?) for our dogs today, were thorough, kind and gave us a lot of time for exams, questions and getting to know us. So far, so good, right? Unfortunately no and I feel like I'm overreacting but then I realize this has to be said. Over time, this behavior of McMonigle's would become a major rip-off. Both of my dogs needed their heart/flea medication today. It's the actual reason I took them in for their checkups today. It's also the reason why they get two stars. First, and this isn't really what prompted this review but it helped, is that they will not allow my dog's health insurance pay for their dental cleanings with my paying the difference ($2,000-3,000). They said absolutely not, even though my last vet in Seattle AND Blue Pearl did for both of my dogs surgeries. That was annoying, but not a deal breaker. When I was handed the bill for today's services and a 6-pack (1 box) of Trifexis they charged me $75.00 for EACH DOG which would have been a 3-month supply for the two of them. That's $150.00 for what I normally and have always paid about $90-120.00 for both of them which is one box they share. When I asked how much the SAME box of medicine would have been for 1 dog for 6 months, they told me it would have been $120. So because they are giving the medicine to two dogs, they charged an extra $30.00 because for no other reason because they can and their customers let them. When I asked the office manager why they're charging an extra $30 she said, "to keep our bookkeeping correct." That is an unsatisfactory answer to my simple question about why they are price gouging me. I understand that they probably aren't used to being challenged about their pricing, but it's time they were and that's why I'm here. We had been using this vet for our 2 Shih Tzu's a year now for various shots and checkups. We were very happy with the staff as they were always friendly and kind. Unfortunately, being friendly and kind does not make up for experience. On 2/22/20, we took our small 9 month old puppy to see them since she kept pawing at her eye and shaking her head. From visually looking at her eye it seemed it was a little red so we took her to McMonigle. Since her regular vet doctor was not available our puppy was seen by Dr. Crystal Bahr which her diagnosis was conjunctivitis and prescribed her a steroid solution and had us put in our puppy's eye 2 times a day. We did this however, on 2/24/20 I noticed her eye had all the sudden gotten worse and we called requesting to see the doctor. We did not receive a call until the next morning 2/25/20 and they told me to immediately stop giving her the steroid and to bring her in. Dr. Crystal Bahr did a recheck and prescribed a few different medications and listed her findings as a corneal ulcer. On the morning of 2/28/20 we sent a video that our puppy was still getting worse and they said to bring her in at 4pm that day. The owner Dr. Rob McMonigle now looked at her and said she has an eye rupture. We were in shock. He called Summit Vet Emergency Hospital in Tacoma and had us take her there to see an eye doctor. We spent 6 hours there on Friday night and never saw an eye doctor and Summit Hospital said they told Dr. McMonigle the eye doctor was not working on Friday's. Summit Hospital Dr. Kelly White told us she would take a look at her but there was really nothing she could do. She was surprised McMonigle sent us to them and not to a vet that actually had an eye doctor on call. We left there without any help for this poor puppy other than thanks to Dr. Kelly, she was able to schedule us to see an eye doctor on Saturday 2/29/20 with Dr. Jones at NW Animal Eye Specialist. Once we got there our puppy was admitted into surgery that day. BUT, before the surgery we were given the option to either perform a difficult eye surgery to try and save the eye or to remove it completely. Now we were terrified for this little puppy and couldn't believe she went from starting out with a little redness in her eye to now maybe needing to have it removed. Both were expensive and we had no choice but make a decision so we chose to save her eye since she was only 9 months and had her entire life to live. The surgery went well but we are not even sure she will get her vision back, only time will tell. All of this due to the original doctor (Dr. Bahr) did not perform a complete and thorough diagnosis of her eye from the beginning and now almost $6000 later we are still nursing our puppy back to health. The bills keep racking up because every time we step into a clinic it costs us over $200 for a checkup and more medications. To add insult to all of this, we have been receiving calls from all the other hospital veterinarians to check on how our puppy is doing but never received 1 call from the McMonigle clinic to check up on her. Since this had happened I found Dr. Becker specking on Corneal Ulcer on you tube not to put a steroid in an eye that has an ulcer since it is very dangerous and can cause the ulcer to get worse, REALLY!! and here we are, this is what occurred to our puppy. From the first phone call to make an appointment, several visits with my sweet tabby cat, Dolly, to handling her cremation, everyone at this clinic goes above and beyond to be professional and compassionate. I just called McMonigle's today, over a year has past since my last visit, and when Eddy answered the phone and I gave her my name she said, "Of course I remember you and Dolly". Amazing!!! Made me feel so good. I am still important to them. I will never forget the day, I came into McMonigle's sobbing, with Dolly in my arms. They quickly found an exam room and in a flash Dolly's vet, Dr. Angie Martinez appeared with a tissue box in her hand. Although Dolly was gone, she tenderly examined her and told me what she thought had happened. Dr. Martinez allowed me to take all the time I needed to say good-by to my sweet Dolly. (Geez, I am now crying.) I will always remember the genuine caring and compassion I felt that day. I now live in Bellevue. The vets are good here but the front office is hard to work with. I wanted this place to be as good as the reviews say it is but got tired of the "attitude" from the ladies up front. It has happened with us several times now and far from helpful when getting info or appointments for my dog. I reached out to another clinic and they were very helpful, respectful, and happy to give us the information we needed so we have now switched vets. There is a hostility and lack of professionalism in terms of the front office staff at McMonigle Clinic. We moved to the north Auburn area about a year ago and needed a new vet for our 5 dogs. Yes, 5....lol. Had 6, lost one. :( Thru a years time, all 5 have had to visit McMonigles for one reason or another. The entire staff is fantastic! All of the doctors are compassionate, loving and kind, patient and understanding, and have a passion about what they do. You can absolutely tell they LOVE animals. I am so happy to have found them. I was very concerned about having to change vets on them. No worries at all! Our oldest is 18, youngest is 13. I had all their records faxed over to McMonigle prior to our first visits. And it was alot of info lol. The doctors really took the time to know about them extensively before even meeting them. I loved that. Needless to say I won't ever take them anywhere else again. Dr. Martinez was so awesome with my cat when he developed chronic kidney disease. Very helpful, kind, and caring. I think my cat was comfortable around her too. My cat unfortunately had to be put to sleep because he just got too sick but I feel like the vet did everything she could for him so I don't have any regrets about taking him here whatsoever. read more

When my cat got sick, I took the recommendation from a friend to visit McMonigle vet. Distraught, I took Miss Daisy there because McMonigle happens to be the closest clinic to my house. I was warned that they are a bit more pricey than other vet clinics in the area. This is true, but I feel the cost is equivalent to the high level of care I received there. I saw Dr. Sandy Larson on my first visit, and I really liked him. Professional, warm, and happy to educate me on treatment options. The next few times I've visited, I saw Dr. Ali Clark. I truly feel that she went above and beyond the typical treatment. I remember her noticing that Miss Daisy was extremely distressed at being carted to the animal hospital, and her treatment remained cognizant with minimizing that. I have also called the office staff numerous times on questions about flea control, and new puppy procedure questions. They are always professional. I've cut my Starbucks habit to be able to accomodate my pet's good health, and I'm rewarded ten fold for that. Please consider McMonigle vet for your fur babies. I just love them! read more

We moved to Kent last year, and I needed to find a new Vet for my dog. I had been going to Maple Leaf Vet in Seattle, and had been happy there, so I was anxious about having to find another good Vet after the move. My dog (Kiki) is a senior dog, and means a lot to me. My pup is almost 12 years old, so over the years I'd been to several clinics before sticking with Maple Leaf, so I know what clues to look for that indicate caring, competent Vet hospitals/clinics. McMonigle's has been there for a long time, as my husband used to live in the area in the late 90's. I like that it is an established practice, and might even be a second generation practice. There is a statue outside, of a dog and a cat, that can be seen from the busy street. They dress them up according to the seasons/holidaysa, and it's pretty cute. When you're dealing with pets, a sense of humor is always good! My first visit, Dr. McMonigle got on the ground, near my dog, and had a confident, friendly approach to her. Most pets hate the Vet's, and a good Vet must know this. I've experienced some veterinarians that are so rigid and clinical that they actually make my dog MORE frightened. Overall, good visit, decided to use them for her next check-up. Almost a year later, my dog had some serious problems. I took her in, and they have a new vet, Dr. Lui. Her appointment was urgent, so I scheduled with him, and found him to be a great doctor as well. Good understanding of animal communication. Very patient in explaining/answering my questions. Quite accessible (he answers emails and is very diligent about returning phone calls.) I explained that we had a budget, and he has made sure to honestly present options for each step of the journey so far. My dog ended up having her leg amputated, and he was her surgeon. She's healing well, and it seems he's done a bang-up job. You can tell he truly enjoys practicing veterinary medicine, and he very obviously loves working with animals. As well, the office staff have been very accommodating and friendly. They actually remember the patients and their owners, and they are never rude. They even offered to help walk our dog in from the parking lot, if I'm juggling my human baby at the same time. If they don't know the answer to a question, they get the message to the doctor asap. They follow-up on voicemail I've left after hours. I recommend this Veterinarian practice for all the reasons above. I'm a serious dog lover, and I trust them with my dog's care. read more

Sadly, earlier this month our 14.5 yr old dog began having breathing/coughing issues. We first brought her to another vet in Kent that offered a coupon for a free visit, only to experience a less-than-par visit with them. Unhappy with our visit to that vet, we hopped on Yelp and found the great reviews for McMonigle Vet also in Kent. We made an emergency visit (which was a little more pricey), but were seen that same day. Dr. Eric Lui was very caring and professional. After thorough questions, and a very complete physical examination, we ordered a couple X-rays. It was then that we learned of the Large mass of lung cancer pressing on her lungs and heart. Sadly, we made the decision to have her put down the following week. Though having a pet put down was so difficult to handle (being right next to her side)...slightly unexpected to someone unfamiliar...we believe that they did an amazing job and made it as comfortable for her as possible. They also went out of their way to offer a complimentary paw print in clay (color of our choice). It turned out beautiful and we have since hung it by our door so we see it when we leave our house. Mcmonigle accepts Care Credit (Which really helps for unexpected vet expenses). Their pricing seems in line (possibly a little less expensive on some fees) than other vets in the area. We are very confident in this Veterinary Clinic/Hospital and will continue to bring our pets here in the future. I recently moved from West Seattle to the Kent area and needed a vet for my 13 yr old cat with renal issues. After reading several Yelp reviews on McMonigle I decided to try them out and I can say that I was not disappointed. The staff here is extremely empathetic, friendly and professional. When we moved to Fairwood, they kept Tycho (our cat) going strong well into his 19th year, then, when age made his joints too painful for him to live in "feline dignity", they helped him "move on" in a most kind and gentle manner. Dr. Rob is so incredibly personable and responsive. We moved from NYC two years ago and we were so nervous about finding the right person to treat our four legged children. Absolutely disgusted with McMonigle. We are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, told to stay home & have a person battling COVID symptoms yet they wanted us to leave our house drive two of our animals to Kent from Auburn for their flea medication. Our cat & dog have been on the same flea medication for YEARS but because they are "due" for a yearly exam Mcmonigle refuses to refill their prescription not allowing us to order online. One of our dogs has a different Vet close to Puyallup where we used to live & they have had no issue accommodating due to the WORLDWIDE pandemic. McMonigle even had the audacity to tell us to try with our other vet because they weren't going to make a one time exception. We kept them as our vet to try & distribute our local support after we moved but clearly we should have switched all our animals to our old vet. COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED they are willing to refer future business & put our animals wellbeing at risk all to make a quick buck off a consult. Beyond appalled, what a shame that they can't even make an exception during a world wide pandemic. They are asking us to put our entire family at risk, social distancing or not IT IS STILL A HUGE risk leaving our house if we don't have to. Also, they are okay with putting their employees & anyone around the building at risk after we told them we have someone sick at home. We will be switching veterinarians since McMonigle has made it clear they only care about making a buck over our pets health. There were two options in the City of Kent and after a quick check on Yelp and Facebook I decided on McMonigle Veterinary Hospital. I called and explained that I had a coupon and they fit me same-day! This veterinary office is everything I look for in a doctor's office. Long-standing practice, renovated building, friendly staff, doctors who love what they do. Dr. Clark at McMonigle was great. She clearly loves animals and took to our pup immediately. I like that she is young and has a great attitude and that the doctors in the practice span a large age range so there is plenty of experience. I have seen many things as a pet owner and as a volunteer at animal shelters. I can honestly say everyone at McMonigle's are of the best. Yes their prices are a little high but you do get great treatment there. Even in the toughest and emotional moments of laying a loved one to rest. This was the 2nd time I had to have a furry family member laid to rest by a vet on 25 yrs. I did call around but did not feel right going anywhere else. They cost was more than some of the other vets but once everything was said and done I knew they earned every penny. They went out of their way to make sure the emotional situation was less stressful on both owner and pet. One thing they offered that no other vet office I've been to offers is a paw print in clay with the pet's name on it. I truly wish other vet offices would offer this service as well. I can not even begin to tell anyone how much it means to just have a keepsake like that. As soon as we adopted a new furry family member we scheduled a physical to make sure everything was OK with her. It was hard walking in knowing our last trip was to lay our oldest one to rest but the staff definitely showed us their support with a box of tissue and our loved one's paw print in hand. It was really nice that they asked us how our other furry family member was handling the lost of our oldest one and the arrival of our newest one. All the vet's I have dealt with over the years simply assumed no news is good news. My family and I are extremely grateful for McMonigle's and everything they have done for us over the past few years. Dr. Danielle has looked over both my Frankie and Molly and they have gotten the best care. I love seeing the parking lot full every time I come in, it means this business is good and know what they're doing. I've been taking my critters to Dr. Rob and Dr. Larsen since 2003. They are always kind and patient with both me and my pets, and they are so knowledgeable. The pricing is more than reasonable, they don't do tests unless necessary (no gratuitous testing), and they give me an estimate up front for the big stuff like xrays and surgery. I've been taking my pups here for the last 3 years and I love it. My dogs are already suspicious about veterinary offices (the smells), but Dr. Martinez has been great to work with. I've seen her more than other vets and I trust her. The staff are super friendly and easy to work with on the phone or via email. More recently, my Pomeranian didn't like the new COVID rules and i had dropped her off at the front door (per their new system) and waited in my car. Unfortunately, she wasn't liking that and nipped at the vet techs. I felt terrible, but Dr. Martinez recognized that normally my Pomeranian is easy going during our visits and she's never seen her act this way but were completely understanding. They put a note in her chart that I needed to be present during visits moving forward and were able to accommodate me in a room with my Pomeranian to keep her anxiety down so she could do a Comprehensive Exam. It was very thoughtful and we were in an out in no time! I highly recommend McMonigle Veterinary Hospital for your pets needs. They never try to up-sale me anything and are always thoughtful on my options or next-steps. I've never been pushed to do any unnecessary exams or x-rays and i appreciate that a lot. read more
