Da Booze Shop was a great surprise we stumbled upon while going to the market down the road. We waited about 15 minutes for our food, and the staff was genuinely friendly from the moment we walked in til the moment we left. Me and my friend split the mahi katsu and the Kekkahot chicken, and both were excellent. The mahi was cooked perfectly, with a light crispy batter that let the fish stay juicy and tender topped with their furikake blend and sauce it's a perfect plate lunch food. The Kekkahot chicken was just as impressive. If you've had Zippy's Korean Chicken, imagine that but better. The chicken was incredibly moist, the breading stayed crunchy, and the savory sauce coated everything without making it soggy. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star visit was the mac salad. It was a little bland for my taste, not bad by any means, just average compared to how good everything else was. That being said, I'd definitely come back especially for that mahi katsu. read more

I got a loco moco from here while in the area. The wait on a weekend for takeout was about 30 minutes, but we had a group of 3 people. I was super excited to see that they had a loco moco on their menu. There was rice, a hamburger patty, egg, and tons of gravy. Everything was flavorful and the meat was tender. This dish is pretty heavy on the rice. There are a couple tables outside and the parking was all street parking. They have lots of different options and mini plates, which was perfect for me. Really friendly staff at this tiny kitchen. The food is fine for elevated fast food. The chicken katsu honestly had no flavor and was mostly breading. There is also no seating. Picnic tables in grassy area across the street but lots of flying insects. Bathrooms are a block away in a park. There are definitely better places to grab a bite. read more

Great little family owned shop in the Waimea area. One of the few places that's still open after 3pm. We stopped by to get some loco moco. Walking in, you can tell they've been here for a long time. There's no AC in here at all and this part of the island is a bit warmer than the South or West side. We got a 2 patty and it took a while for them to make our food. While we waited, we walked next door to Auntie Lilikoi and ended up buying some of their stuff. After we picked up our order, I noticed how heavy it was. Probably close to 2 lbs. of food. Decided to eat in the car with the AC blasting. Overall, we both thought the loco moco was just ok. But they do not skimp on their portions. A lot of rice and 2 thick patties that were probably 1/2 lb each. Definitely enough for 2 to share. The dish could have used a little more seasoning, but I did like the mac salad. How I wish I could transport myself on the daily to try everything from this restaurant. Our family vacation would not have been complete without a local telling us we had to make the trek over here to see what this place offered. A true hidden gem in Waimea that left us wondering how can we ask them to expand to Orange County?! it's meant to be a pick up and go as there is no seating inside, there's some benches across the way but honestly I could have eaten this standing up and with my hands if it wasn't for etiquette. We ordered the mahi katsu and chili pepper chicken that was cooked to pure perfection. So savory, and just more incredible with each bite I took. The gal taking our order said the brownie was made fresh and worth it so of course being a chocolate lover I had to indulge. Our kids enjoyed the cheeseburger, simple yet satisfying. We are so happy we now know of this spot and even left with t-shirts merch to remind us daily of the happy times we had eating here on a Saturday. My husband and I stopped in here to grab some lunch. It is counter service without tables inside, but there are a few outdoor tables across the street. My husband got the chicken katsu and thought it was good! I had the chicken katsu wrap with ranch and really enjoyed it. It did get a little soggy, so I would recommend eating it quickly. The food took a little while to come out, but I appreciate the freshness and didn't mind waiting. They have a fridge with drinks. They have the tall boy 16 oz Diet Coke cans. We got a bit hungry after hiking around the west side of the island at Waimea Canyon State Park and was able to find this place on yelp driving back to our hotel on the south part of the island. I saw so many people recommending the Kekahott chicken so I decided to give it a try. 1. Kekahott chicken: THIS IS SO GOOD! It is pretty much Korean Fried Chicken but in more of a chicken cutlet kind of format which is great because there are no bones. The seasoning is so flavorful and the batter is so crispy and fresh. The portion size is insane. We could barely close the box! Da Booze shop is located in the small town of Waimea. A good place to stop and eat if you have visited Waimea canyon and are hungry for a bite to eat. I ordered the kekahott chicken and it took a good 15 minutes for the one plate to come out. A couple ordered after and got their food before me which was odd since I only got one thing. The chicken was good but more crispy skin pieces than I wanted. My husband really liked the chicken skin though so he ate all the parts I didn't like. I would say the chicken wasn't really hot and tasted more like Thai chili sauce that is sweet. I ended up putting hot sauce from my husbands tacos on the chicken. There is street parking out front but no seating inside. There are a few benches across the street in the small triangle park. The Waimea landing beach park is down the road and another place you could eat. We were told that was the only bathroom in the area. I don't suggest Lucy weight park due to some of the homeless people in the area. read more

Best plate lunch I've ever had, hands down. I've never had such juicy chicken in my life. The Kekahott chicken was soooo tender, marinated well, but also fresh out the fryer with a perfect crisp. Mac salad was cold and refreshing, and the katsu was also breaded well with the chicken inside still tender and not dry. The KitKat cheesecake was also decadent but not too sweet, with a perfect crust to cake ratio. I wish i could give this place 6/5 stars! Service was also great, food is made fresh to order so it does take a little longer of a wait, but well worth it.
