My forever date and I went to the Bait Shop for a Friday night "out." We sat at the bar where we enjoyed drinks and dinner. Service was attentive throughout. Sandwiches and burgers are served without sides, so we split some tater tots as well. The food was really good and the portions were huge! Overall, it felt like a great value. The restaurant/bar is relatively small and there was a wait for a table by the time we left at 6ish. I'm disappointed that we had to leave before the live music started which was setting up on an elevated stage near the entrance. We will definitely be back for music and food! read more

It definitely isn't. The appetizers are clearly the shiny stars here, but we thought all the food was good. We started with the best of all the items, the jalapeño popper eggrolls. Creamy and rich inside, perfectly crispy shell and dipped into a zippy little pepper sauce. I could have smashed a second order. Yum. My husband wanted nachos. Chicken, of course. Huge portion. Tasty. His only complaint is for him they could have used more cheese. I had the cherry chicken salad on nine grain. I liked it. The side of better mades was good, the potato salad was just ok. We got to go for the oldsters. All apps. Super nicely packed up. They were beyond thrilled. Why? Because apps are the best things here. Seriously good. Break in our training schedule brought us here for a midweek lunch. Cute design with staff dressed in competition fishing gear and well placed decorations. Everything we ordered tasted as though it came from the freezer. The calamari was heavily breaded and seemed like pre-packaged rings, similar to something from a bulk food supplier, which was very disappointing. The bang bang shrimp tasted more like chicken tossed in hot sauce than a sweet-and-spicy glaze. The wings, while "naked," which I did appreciate, also seemed frozen rather than fresh. My advice to management: put more effort into the food. Freshly prepared items -- like real calamari, hand-cut fries, and house-made sauces -- would make the dining experience match the amazing atmosphere. read more

Great experiences the previous three visits. The fourth was odd as I've never experienced this before at any restaurant... ever. A group of three ordered the same entree. The waitress advises that the various accompanying side dishes could be substituted. Order placed. All three orders are messed up. When we advise the waitress, she talks to someone and then informs us that we have to pay an extra full amount for the correct side dish. If the restaurant is so penny pinching that they cannot cover the cost of their own mistakes, I am not sure I will trust them with my food again. Seriously, how much would it have cost you to just bring over a small plate of fries that you screwed up and didn't include as part of our meal. It's to the point that I think you had extra coleslaw you wanted to get rid of and didn't want to serve fries. On three dishes. The waitress also should have owned the mistake she made. I regret marginally bumping the 15% tip, and I wish we left less as the waitress was probably clueless why we left such a minimum tip. We had gone out elsewhere to another restaurant during this trip, and one waitress was so awesome that we gave a 25% tip. So we're not cheap. We just don't like our orders getting screwed up and then told we have to pay for the mistakes. Waitress and/or kitchen makes order mistake, and the customers are told that they (the customers) have to pay to fix it, when the side order should have come with the meal. Seriously? read more

Went during the airshow and had a super great spot on the patio. Patio is super cute by the way and is great for watching the comings and goings of Belleville. Waitress was not exactly friendly and kind of short with answers, but everything was brought out correct and warm, so no real complaints. Would recommend that they have a drink/beer menu... at least a QR code menu. Food was super good, had the Smashburger and wife had the Southern chicken sandwich. We split them and we both liked the Smashburger better, but both were good. Kids had chicken strips and pretzel bites... both loved them! This restaurant is new to the area and I stopped by after trying to go to a different Cajun-style restaurant nearby that was closed on a Sunday(Bayou Grill). I noticed Bait Shop Bar and Restaurant and decided to give it a try. They had a nice outdoor seating and the bar was packed inside. A hostess approached and after I asked to place a carryout order she said... well we're really behind and I have to go as the kitchen if I can take any orders. Ummmm ok. She returns and says no she can't take my order. However, I could wait awhile until they can take it. I was curious at this point so decided to wait. I waited about 10 mins and then searched online and saw they take online orders. I went to my car made the online order and arrived at the time given for pickup. I was expecting then to say it wasn't ready yet due to how busy they were . But to my surprise, the online order was ready to go! Ok, while I felt it was not the best service, I was happy it was given to me and I went home to try everything. I got 2 Canadian perch meals with fries and coleslaw and a bbq pulled pork sandwich... about $60 total. All I can say is that this food made up for a lot of my customer service issues. Fish was perfectly seasoned and crispy, so were the fries.... The cold slaw was that sweet yummy kind we all like and it was very fresh and crispy yet creamy. The pulled pork sandwich was very good as well! I will definitely be back for the delicious fish fry! Hopefully as they settle into the needs of the weekend crowd, ordering carryout will not be a problem. If so they will receive a 5 on that visit. Good place to grab a drink and a burger. They have live music on certain nights that can be kinda hit or miss. If you're simply there to drink and listen to music, then I'm sure it's great, but if you're bringing your family for a meal, it can be a bit too much. The menu is small, but what they do, they do well. Their smash burgers are great. I would recommend the junior, which is a single patty smash burger. The regular comes with two patties and that's just too much for me... and I'm an eater. Service is always decent. We've not had a visit yet where we left thinking the service was bad, and honestly that's all you can ask for when you're looking to eat a good burger with a good beer and watch some sports. read more

I must say I have never been treated the way I was tonight, in my entire life. My friend and I were on a road trip heading back home and we asked a girl wheres some good food nearby. She told us to go to the bait shop. We arrived and the host seemed really confused and walked into the kitchen and about 2 minutes later, walked back out and then sat us in a back area all by ourselves. We definitely felt secluded, in a bad way. We both ordered waters. Then my friend asked our server, Jenna for recommendations. She suggested the pulled pork mac n cheese. I got the walleye with mashed potatoes and gravy and a side salad with bleu cheese. Our server asked me if I'd like my salad first and I said, yes please. Welp fast forward maybe 10 minutes later and she brought all our food out, apologized that it came up to quickly to get the salad out first, dropped it all off, and said enjoy. My friend took one look at her dry "pulled pork" and couldn't bring herself to eat it. I started eating mine. The dressing tasted like ranch with chunks of bleu cheese. I couldn't tell if the mashed potatoes were instant but they definitely didn't look nor taste like fresh ones. The walleye was bland, and lacking of any flavor but I was starving so I tried eating it. About 5 minutes passed and our server came to ask how was everything. My friend apologized and stated Im sorry this looks so dry and unappealing, I can't eat it. The server offered to get her something different and my friend declined. The server took the food and then proceeded to the end of the bar where her, the bartender/ manager, and the kitchen manager started staring at us and talking about us. The kitchen manager who was dressed in plain clothes and drinking at the end of the bar walks up to our table and says "hey so um what was wrong with the food because I personally made it?" ( Which was a total lie. He was inebriated and sitting at the bar the whole time.) My friend stated she thought it was bbq pulled pork and he interrupted her and said it was. She said well it was so dry it looked old and unappealing. He said that dry food isn't an excuse, they would pack it up for us but he wasn't taking it off the bill. We both looked at him in shock. I've worked the restaurant industry for almost 30 years and I have never, ever heard someone speak to a patron in that manner! I pushed my food away seeing as my appetite was completely ruined and my friend told him she Was NOT paying for something she didn't eat. He started to argue and got aggressive especially for approaching two females in the manner he did. I asked him what his name was and he responded "don't bother with that", went to walk away, then turned back around and said Carter's my name. He said I'll send the owner over. We waited for a few minutes, saw no one was coming, so we got up and asked the server at the host stand to speak with the owner. The bartender comes up to us and tells us he's the manager. His demeanor was defensive from the start. And he goes on about how this is a small establishment and they don't take food off. Also, it's our fault for ordering something on a suggestion. He said he tasted it and it wasnt dry. We again stated we weren't paying for food she didnt eat and that was made wrong. He tried bargaining and saying he'd take half off and pack it up for us. We responded saying no and how he just stated that he ate some of the food why would we want something he stuck his finger in and ate??? About 2 minutes goes by and I paid for my food even though I barely touched it, he took hers off the bill and we left. I don't know what the owner thinks is going to happen with this many complaints about the exact same thing. I have never been to a restaurant that screws up your food, blames you, and tries to force you to pay for it. I hope the server doesn't get in trouble. They were all walking around on eggshells. It was very clearly a toxic and abusive work environment. I think it goes without saying we won't be back. But clearly, the owner doesn't care. read more

Really cool "old school" bait shop feel. We went on a Wednesday this week and they had live music which was really good! I had the smash burger and fries and the patty was crispy on the edges and the cheese was gooey perfection. My wife had the dry rub wings and raved about them so I stole one and agreed. Fantastic. Went here on a Friday evening with friends and really liked it. Love the atmosphere and decor. I got a chicken fried sandwich and it was huge. Fries are a $4 up charge but with the $12 price for the size of the chicken sandwich I didn't think that was totally unfair imo. Aluminum bottles of Budweiser were $4 and were served really cold. They had a country artist come on stage around 8:00 and although a bit loud acoustically speaking, we found him to be very good. The food and atmosphere is nice, but the service is not. Our waitress was rude from the get go. She barely gave us any time and seemed annoyed to give us the beer list. She did not ask if we needed more drinks or how our dinner was. When we got the wrong item and was charged for it, she tried to guilt trip us into not asking for a refund. The owner was just as rude. They have lost a customer with their attitude. Think twice before you give them your money. There are plenty of other choices in town. read more
