    Bibim Kalguksu #20

MDK Noodles in Chinatown was a solid four star experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Parking was easy and place was clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the tteokbokki, pork and kimchi dumplings, bibimbap, and jolmyeon and everything tasted really good. The flavors were comforting and satisfying across every dish. We asked if their raw skate fish was smelly and our service was kind enough to give us samples. We liked the flavor of the fish so we got it along with jolmyeon. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good food, a little pricey considering the casual ambience, but no complaints about the flavors as everything was delicious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Wish all of the food had come out at the same time. My seafood pancake came out 10-15 minutes after everything else. On the other hand, it was delicious.

My friends and I go here for the kalguksu. I've only tried the regular chicken one, but it is soooo good! I tried my first kalguksu here and I loved it so much. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It felt like an elevated chicken noodle soup. I say that especially because it feels so cozy and warm while you're eating it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The noodles themselves were amazing and every now and then I crave them again. It also comes with a nice sauce and two types of kimchi. I think this korean restaurant has my favorite kimchi I've ever gotten from a korean restaurant. We also tried their shrimp and pork dumplings and their squash pancakes, they were soooo good! Definitely recommend this place and all the dishes mentioned to others!

Enjoyed a nice, big, steaming bowl of kalguksu -- hearty, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Each order came with two side dishes of kimchi, perfectly complementing the meal. Not my usual preference of kimchi in terms of flavor profile but it was a refreshing crunch to my hearty soup. Note that anything spicy here is actually pretty spicy. The service was friendly, adding to the overall great experience.

Pretty yummy noodles and super affordable. Service was also pretty good and the food was brought out timely. I don't remember any particular standouts - just that everything was solid.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile.. but honestly, I was not impressed. I'm giving it a 4, because the dumplings were good and service was nice. We didn't have to wait long for food, although, they were out of the seafood pancake batter. The noodles were eh. Not something I would get again. My friend got the pork dish, and that was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathrooms are clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Services again, was very nice and efficient.

MDK Noodles is quickly becoming one of my go-to's in Chinatown when I am feeling hungry or just want a no nonsense good meal. The service is consistently friendly and the food arrives at your table within a reasonable amount of time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is never packed but stays busy throughout the night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did not have to wait very long to get seated as a party of 7. Like many other reviews have stated, their signature Kalguksu is the dish to get. It's a large bowl of perfectly cooked noodles and dumplings enveloped in a rich, hearty, and warming chicken soup. Make sure to add lots of the green onion and garlic sauce to the soup to make it even more rich and savory. Another noodle dish that we frequently order here are the bibimguksu or bibim nengmyun (I believe the only difference in those two types of cold noodles is the types of noodles that they use). The bibim nengmyun features noodles that are bouncier and chewier, while the bibimguksu has noodles that have a very slight herbaceous flavor. Another item to not sleep on is the seafood pancake. The haemul pajeon at MDK is always crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The pancake sauce here is probably my favorite too. MDK serves two types of kimchi--both advertised as made in house / on premises. The white kimchi is sour and slightly sweet, while the red kimchi is spicy, garlicy, and intense. I find that the red kimchi goes amazingly well with the kalguksu or any of their noodle soups and their white kimchi is great with their dumplings. I am a big fan of their kimchi offerings. Unfortunately, during my most recent visit, I found a little twig or stick in my bibim nengmyun. I would have brought this to the server's attention but I found it as I literally took the last bite. Either way, I still believe that MDK is a great spot and a restaurant that has a very long tenure in Houston's Chinatown. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibes are typically a bit more laid back and relaxed compared to the hustle and bustle and slight craziness of Bellaire.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We went here for dinner on Friday. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is spacious and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waiter gave us barley tea to try. We also asked for water if we didn't want the tea. We tried kimchi pork dumplings, seafood pancake, galbi, and bulgogi bibimbap with fried egg. The banchan (Kimchi and vinegary cabbage) were homemade and gave each one of us our own separate ones. You can ask for more if you wanted to. We will definitely come back and try their other dishes.

This is my go-to spot for cold noodles here in Houston. The portion size is honestly huge, and since it's a noodle dish, I find myself getting full each time I go. The flavor is great and especially during this summer heat it's a perfect way to cool off. Service here is good, and they provide you with water for the table. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The physical space is good as well, there's usually not a lot of traffic so I have never experienced a wait time for seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Hours can be confusing, though, as I have encountered a few times where they closed ahead of their posted schedule. Definitely a bit of uncertainty there so I might recommend calling ahead to make sure they're actually open.

My boyfriend was feeling ill so we stopped by here for Spicy Kalguksu. I ordered the Spicy Bibim Nengmyun with bulgogi and pork dumplings to share. If you've never had Korean cold noodles before, this is the perfect restaurant to try it. The portions are large, so you'll never leave hungry. The pork dumplings are so juicy! This place really hit the spot. I appreciate that their food is consistent :) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very cute restaurant and the location is great![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is pretty quick, too.

MDK is a very famous mandu and noodles spot in Korea. I have been to the original spot in Seoul and it was worth the hype. Everything there was the best I've had of that specific food. Obviously, this is not Korea and I ordered it for delivery so I had to keep my expectations realistic which was a good idea. Don't get me wrong, MDK here was ok but do not have the expectations that it'll be even close to the Korean stuff. The Tteokbbokki was very average. The rice cakes were not very chewy. Sauce was watery. Overall, it wasn't spicy. I would not recommend getting it. 3/10. The bibimbap was decent. There was a good amount of vegetables and the balance between vegetables, rice, and meat was good. It would've been nice if it came with gochujang on the side. 5/10. The rice cake and dumpling soup was meh. The same dish I tried in Korea was full of flavor and had depth to it. The one here tasted similar to what you can get from a plastic bag at the Asian supermarket. 3/10. I really liked how they provided a good amount of kimchi on the side. That was the only banchan provided though. It would've been nice to have some others. I look forward to trying this place out in person next time I'm in Houston and will edit my review if my experience in person is different.

Came here in desperate need of hot soup to get my sinuses running, and this place did wonderfully. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was great, and the ambience was relaxing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place offers some of the best kimchi in the town, and they aren't shy about refilling it either. We got the pork dumplings, spicy kalguksu, and bibimguksu w/ bulgogi. Pork dumplings - these were delicious, the skin was thin, it was super juicy almost like a soup dumpling but not quite. Spicy Kalguksu - definitely a good amount of spice in this one, I would say it's on the same level as Buldak's spice. The knife cut noodles were cooked extremely well, tender but not soggy. This dish cured my congestion. Bibimguksu - My partner got this dish and she loves it, it's perfect for a hot summer day, as the sauce is sweet and spicy paired with the chewy cold noodles, and cucumbers makes for a very refreshing combination of flavors. P.S. my favorite thing about MDK is the amount of food that they give you for the price that you pay, you'll definitely be leaving full.

I recently got to try this place and it's now one of my favorite places to get Korean food in Houston. I especially enjoyed trying the spicy cold noodles which they are known for. The noodles are the perfect level of chewiness and also a good mix of spiciness and flavor. Here's everything I tried: Kimchi - Tasted so fresh, homemade, and authentic. Pretty spicy, and probably the best kimchi I've had in Houston! Rice Cake Soup - The rice cakes were a perfect addition to this yummy soup Mixed Spicy Wheat Noodles - Perfect noodle chewiness texture, also served with veggies and an egg Bulgogi Bibimbap - Served in a stone bowl, so the rice is nice and crispy at the bottom Seafood Pancake - Was made fresh and had a nice crispy texture! Beef Bulgogi - Had a nice sweet flavor, served with rice The lady at the counter is so friendly and the service is very fast and friendly in general.

The sesame sauce brings everything together and it's amazingly refreshing and hearty at the same time. Came out steaming hot, and yolk was not overly cooked and dry, not bad. Starting with the Chinese hamburger I felt sad and know not to expect too much from the other dishes we ordered. First the meat look different than what others have posted before, and it was kinda dry and too salty to eat. There was no other spice, only the meat juice flavor. The bun they use was stale to eat. Traditional way of making this should be the flaky oily pancake, or at least make the buns softer to eat. The mutton stew was clear and very heartwarming to drink on a cold day. But the portion is super small for the price. The glass noodles were gone in literally two bites. I had none to share with my boyfriend. This dish come with the burger bun too that you can soak them in the soup so I guess this is the extra carb make up for the less noodles. Oil splash noodle is their specialty? It was good but didn't wowed me. Noodles are chewy and well cooked, came with lots of bean sprouts. The sauce is flavorful and actually not too oily which I enjoyed more. You can add the beef for an extra charge, it's the regular braised beef, was just ok. I find it funny that their all food arts on the wall look nothing like the actual way they serve it.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. Not many restaurants in Houston offer Takowasa, which is marinated raw octopus with wasabi; and when we find one that does, it's our must order for appetizers. The tofu was soft and lightly battered, however the downside is that it gets soggy quickly since it's sitting in the sauce rather than on the side. For our entrees, we got the carbonara, curry tonkatsu rice, niku tama ankake, and kakuni udon. The carbonara was nice and creamy. The curry rice tastes exactly like the Japanese box curry. The niku tama is more of a thicker soup base similar to egg drop soup, however has a more slightly sweet umami flavor. The kakuni udon had a lighter broth with braised pork belly. The service was a bit slow here, but we didn't mind it too much. The interior had a cute traditional Japanese style decor. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and we'll be back to try other udons.
