    Lamb -Amazing

Great find!! who knew? Amazing staff of skilled workers with professional butcher on board. In house butchering to make house burger blends , sausages and tons of other high quality meat items. So please to see artists sandwiches available, I had the lamb and I enjoyed it so much! Offer some retail items as well , I grab Imported Italian fine sea salt. You have to stop in! Support this independent butcher!

I would give ten stars for their sausage rolls and meat pie if I could. Wow. Fantastic. I've tried the regular and the kids version of the sausage roll (el niño) which is without pepper or other stronger tasting seasonings or toppings/chutney or what have you. Both are spectacular. They're the same size. Super juicy and delicious with a beautiful pastry around it. Sauce is also good and has a kick to it. Doesn't need the sauce. It's amazing all on its own. We also tried the lamb sandwich which was tasty but when comparing to the Aussie items I mean it's no contest. You gotta go with the meat pie and the sausage roll. No question. They also sell a beautiful variety of quality meats and a pretty diverse selection of drinks which includes modern looking Taiwanese beers and non alcoholic options as well. My friend purchased some cool artisan sauces to bring home as well as a lamb baguette sandwich I think? and a ham and cheese sandwich. Everything was delicious. For sure coming back. The food takes a little while to prepare so keep that in mind when ordering. If you're thinking about getting something to-go in addition to dining in you should just go ahead and order it at the same time because they might sell out while you're waiting. Love the chill butcher shop vibes and the fact that you can do some pantry shopping whiskey here. I am definitely a fan of Meat & Essentials and if you aren't, it's because you just haven't tried it yet. What are you waiting for? Get yourself some now!

Meat & Essentials is a boutique butcher shop, grocery store, and cafe in San Marino. You must get their sausage roll, which is amazing. It is juicy flavorful house-made sausage surrounded by a flaky pastry. I also adore that they sell Martin's potato buns for burgers/hot dogs, because those are elite buns and really hard to find locally. They carry a lot of artisanal pantry items like this if you are a gourmand. I've purchased things out of their meat case before, like Eagle Wings (fancy deboned chicken wings). These are specialty items so they are pricey but great for occasion meals or needs. I would definitely consider coming here to buy ready-made frozen stock or other cool things I would not make myself. Props to the team for doing things the way they want to, churning out good products, and succeeding.

We arrived around 11am, not realizing the lunch menu doesn't start until noon. Since we live nearby, we went home to wait and by the time we returned, we were absolutely starving! Here's what we ordered: Roast Beef Sandwich - Roast beef isn't usually my thing, but my husband loved it, especially with the toasted sourdough. French Brekkie - Our favorite! A warm, buttery croissant filled with ham and cheese. Simple but incredibly delicious. Brekkie Banger - Egg and sausage on a soft potato bun, comfort food done right. Pumpkin Baguette - Pumpkin purée with cream cheese on a toasted baguette. such a unique combination. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs, but we didn't mind having leftovers. I also had a matcha latte sweetened with honey, which was perfectly balanced and comforting. Meat and Essentials is more than just a café, it's also a charming little grocery shop stocked with unique items you won't find at regular stores. Can't wait to come back on the weekend to try their Australian meat pies and sausage rolls!

Came in late on a Sunday and was able to get the last of the meat pies and sausage rolls. Both items had thin flaky crusts and were stuffed with tender meat. I will definitely be back to try their other items.

Swung by the Huntington Library - and it was the first free day of the month. Decided to skip that (mob scene) and drove thru the incredibly beautiful neighborhood. Looked up a place to eat and found Meat & Essentials. It's a tiny neighbor place that has two inside tables. Ordered a sliced roast beef sandwich and charcuterie slices on a baguette with butter. Very yummy. It was the last day of middle school and the kids were coming by for their fix. All in all very charming, neighborly and yummy. They kindly directed me to the pharmacy two doors down for our facilities needs.

This business serves the best iced latte in San Marino. It's seriously a 10/10! They also have delicious, high quality pastries: croissants, cookies, etc. I can't recommend this place enough.

The best. I love coming here. Incredible coffee, great personalized selection of groceries and wine- hand written cards and labels on each item! And an incredible selection for breakfast and lunch. It feels like you're home when you're here. And everything really feels special. Love the team. Thanks Eagle!

Even though I live in the area, I had never heard of this place. I was looking for a place to meet some family members that were in town and I really just focused on the coffee. They got good reviews for the coffee. And the coffee was excellent. They carry Torres chips which are my absolute favorite. There are beautifully stocked butcher cases with high quality items and fresh made food in the open kitchen. They have a wonderful selection of sandwiches, Aussie meat pies and sausage rolls. The food was absolutely delicious. I loved the sandwich with Olympic Provisions meet and I liked the lamb sandwich with eggplant and tomato chutney, which is to die for. The bread was wonderful as well. They may have other things on the menu but I didn't really look in detail. The ambience was wonderful as was the very warm and personalized service. I definitely plan on being a regular.

This place has been on my list for a while and I'm so glad that we finally made our way over to visiting it! Located right on Huntington, with plenty of street side parking out front. It was our first time visiting the shop and the servers were very friendly in introducing us to the must try item. Just a heads up that they do take a minute to prep the food, but it's def worth the wait! It's a combo of a butcher shop and a deli, with some seating inside and outside. We were so bummed out when we saw that the Breekies were out, instead we got the Lamb Panini and a Tom Yum Pork Pie, and they did not disappoint! The panini has the right amount of juice and gaminess that a lamb lover would appreciate, coupled with goat cheese(?) and spinach, sooooooooo good!! The pork pie reminded me of the English meat pies, much bigger in size and definitely meaty and flavorful but not tangy like the English pies that I've had. We also got a flat white and that was very tasty as well, the foam was velvety and smooth and the espresso is fragrant and bright. Will definitely come back again to try the pastries, steaks, and all the fun stuff in the fridge.

This is my go-to weekend brunch treat! I'm a big fan of the meat pies - whatever flavors they have on the weekends, I'll grab one and it never fails to impress. The meat is especially high quality and I love the flaky textures! Just a delightfully decadent little pie to have with a cup of tea. I've also purchase their container of Lu Rou Fan in the past and cooked it with some noodles and it was incredible. I'm so grateful to live near this beloved and unique neighborhood staple. The people are always wonderful here and you can tell everyone that comes by is a regular - this place is well loved!

TLDR: OMG best sandwhich I've had in my life. The lamb sandwhich is crazyyyyyy. Nice mom and pop spot. Love the homey vibe. Super nice owners. Came on Sunday for brunch. Little mom and pop shop on Huntington Drive with plenty of street parking. They have outdoor and indoor seating. They butcher some high quality fresh meats as well as make some amazing sandwhiches. It is like a one stop shop for the perfect picnic! Bring your picnic basket, order some sandwhiches, pick up some snacks, buy some wines, condiments, and sauces. They have everything you may need for a picnic or barbecue at home! Need to come back to try some of their butchered meats. Sandwhich Review Roast Lamb: 100000000/10 holy smokes. First off, their bread is amazing. Super fresh crunchy warm sourdough. Great flavor. The roast lamb inside is super juicy, slightly gamey in all the best ways, paired with arugula, feta cheese, balsamic glaze for a little sweetness, and housemade eggplant tomato chutney. These guys are whipping up some magic back there. Super unique as I rarely ever see roast lamb served as deli slices in a sandwhich. Holy smokes. I dream of sandwhiches like this. My mouth is watering as I recall my experience biting through the warm crispy bread and the explosion of juices in my mouth. The contrast of the arugula, feta, sweet glaze, and chutney. Hits every single note on my palate. This is textbook flavor bomb. Must try. Weekly Special: Mortadella Highlight is the sourdough ciabatta. Warm crunchy and perfectly chewy to give you layers of texture as you bite in. I fell in love with bread after visiting Meat and Essentials. I used to be an only Dutch Crunch bread on my sandwhiches guy but maybe it's just cuz other places weren't doin bread right. Pan fried mortadella, lemon vinaigrette arugula Swiss, and pickled fennel. Perfect salty sour sweet bitter. I should wrap this review up cuz I just finished lunch and I'm getting hungry again. THIS PLACE DOES SANDWHICHES. I'm never going anywhere else for sandwhiches ever again. On top of this, the owners are so nice. Every person who walked in the door was treated like family. Sparking conversations and having little catch ups. How do you scale this up. You can't. This is truly a hidden gem and I hope they never change. Come swing by say hi and grab a sandwhich straight from heaven. Half of me wants to gatekeep, but they deserve to go viral. Thank you thank you thank you. This sandwhich is one of my highlights of 2025.

Came here looking for a new soy sauce from Taiwan that only Meat & Essentials is carrying it in the SGV. They have a very eclectic collection of pantry items and well stocked freezer/refrigerator. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. I've ordered hard to find lamb ribs from the shop last time and it's very good quality lamb. They also have fresh coffee, sandwiches and some pastries. Nice shop to have in the neighborhood and SGV!

I love a spot with a lot of character, which is exactly what this place is. Vibes immaculate, huge variety of coffee/matcha drinks, and fresh food all around. I went for breakfast burrito and my usual iced vanilla latte. Great combo. It tastes great, and I loved the salsa verde on the side. It was a good portion, and I left feeling satisfied. I absolutely loved sitting outside and having fresh air with a great view. You are given a number at the counter, and your food is brought out to your table. I've also seen their promotions on Instagram and love that they do themed menus/events for holidays and such. I have yet to check out the San Marino location, but that's next on the list. Found seating outside but moved some plates ourselves from one table to another to find shade for us the kiddo. Grabbed a high chair and got seating set up. A few folks were setting up to play music out on the patio. We ordered inside as expected, thankfully the line wasn't too bad at that time so it went smoothly, though the prices are still higher than the average mom/pop sandwich place (but we anticipated this). We waited a bit for food while the patio band played. Ambience was pretty nice. Our friend's sandwich came out first and about 5 minutes later our food came. However, the Arnold Palmer we ordered didn't arrive with the food so we asked if they'd come back to bring it, and we were told they'd be right back. We waited probably another 5 minutes but drink still didn't come so I went inside to ask about it and saw the drink sitting on the back counter. So I asked staff if I could pick up the drink and they handed it over. Our friend's sandwich (the Jester) looked pretty filling while wife and I ordered/shared the Crown Jewel with cheese and mayo on the side. The Crown Jewel was pretty meh overall. Wasn't as stacked as the Jester and the bread fell apart as I ate it, despite the mayo on the side. At the end of eating someone came by to grab our order numbers and ask how things went. I commented on the wait for the drink and was told they couldn't find us, which sounded strange because they found us when bringing the sandwich and we still had our order number. But she said we could get a free refill. Since I wanted to take advantage of the refill I went inside to inquire but the order counter had gotten extremely busy. So I asked one of the bus/wait staff outside if they could grab my refill. He directed me inside and he commented how busy they were but I said I didn't want to wait in the huge line simply for a refill, so he offered to meet me inside to get the refill. Eventually I did receive the refill and we left. Overall, for the price of the food I felt the service was very average bordering on subpar, and the food was meh for the price. I don't blame the staff as they all seemed to be working very hard, but perhaps they were understaffed which would be more of a management issue. We basically bussed a couple tables on our own and waited what eventually amounted to 20-25 minutes for an ice tea/lemonade. I pre-tipped when I bought the food, which I kind of regretted but also felt bad that the employees were understaffed so I likely would have left a tip anyways. I don't plan to go back anytime soon. Wish the food and service were better

It consisted of lettuce, avocado, corn, black beans, jicama, tomatoes, onion, quinoa, krispies, kale, cilantro, and cotija. The lettuce wasn't too fresh and there were some that were yellow green but not a big deal. It was packed with flavor even without the chipotle vinaigrette (relieved I got it on the side because I wasn't s big fan). The avocado was very fresh and plentiful. I added chicken for extra $4.74 and it was very tender! Overall, I enjoyed the salad but a bit pricey so it was a good one time experience! The Chicken Pesto Caprese ($14.10) was pretty good. It consisted of chicken, mozzarella, red peppers, pesto, and mixed greens. The greens were very fresh and the sandwich was packed with flavor. The chicken was a little dry but not a big deal. There was a lot of red pepper and it was a bit overwhelming so I wished there wasn't so much. Really enjoyed the pesto since it it wasn't too salty and was the cherry on top to the sandwich! I also really liked that the bread was soft and fresh. Got the "Not so Fried" Chicken Sandwich ($13.68) - 1/2 portion and it came with a side (paid extra $1.26) for tomato basil soup. It consisted of chicken, krispies, mustard pickle slaw, tomatoes, onions, and herb aioli. The bread was very fresh and soft. I'm glad I got this in half portion because I thought this was just ok and nothing special. The tomato basil soup was very oily and salty so wasn't too enjoyable. The Pomegranate Mint Lemonade ($5.10) was sooo sweet. It was refreshing but the mint was a little too overpowering. Definitely recommend adding ice and/or water otherwise it's way too sweet! Overall, the sandwich and salads were a bit pricey but definitely one of the better spots for sandwiches and salads in terms of quality and quantity!

We still wanted Italian, so I offered to go and pick it up. The online menu is sandwiches and piadina only, so I called first to make sure we could get restaurant meals to go. They said yes. I ordered eggplant parmigiana for him and Sauté di Cozze e Vongole for me, as well as a cannoli and a salted caramel dolce freddo to sip while waiting. The drink was delicious and the server, Brooke, was super friendly and helpful (A+, 100%, no notes). I'd had a long week and admittedly was flying on autopilot by then. I paid my tab, got my bag and went to the car. Now I am pretty extra about transporting food safely and without spills, so I put the bag on the front passenger seat and belted it in so it wouldn't tip over. So far, so good. I drove home relishing the delicious garlic smells wafting through the car. I got out and this is where things started going haywire. I walked in the front door and realized the cream sauce on the mussels had just dripped out of the box (not sure why liquid was packaged this way and I will definitely be on alert for this in future!) right through the bag, up the stairs, across the door mat, and all over my shoes (and the flip flops I had been about to put on). Ugh. I have cats who definitely should not be eating garlic, so my husband and I cleaned up the mess after taking photos. I also noticed I had left behind the cannoli And was resigned to calling the restaurant and asking for a refund for the cannoli, at the very least. When I got to the kitchen, I found that basically ALL the sauce had leaked right out of the box (did they not have a deli cup? It's literally a deli). I tried calling twice, but no one picked up. I figured they were busy, as it's the day before a holiday, though it was still pretty early, only about 5 pm. Between the lack of sauce in my dish, the left-behind cannoli, and the mess (thank goodness 90% of the sauce didn't end up in the car upholstery) I decided to just drive back and see what they could do. I am sorry I didn't get their names, but the servers (managers? owners? Apologies, I was SO frazzled. One of them was wearing a green shirt) at the front of house listened to my account, looked at my photos, offered to remake the dish for me, and let me sit at the bar while I waited. I also got my cannoli (perfect). I was offered water or a glass of wine (I declined, I forgot the rest of the dolce freddo at home and was looking forward to finishing it. When my meal arrived, the person in the green shirt told me to be more careful this time and when I expressed trepidation, offered to plastic wrap the box (it was still in a box! Weird but ok) which they did with that good industrial plastic wrap This did the trick by the way. So thank you to the staff at Italian Deli Co. for making it right. I had been looking forward to this meal all week, and though due to the circumstances, I will have to do some reheating at this point, I am really looking forward to our next visit. 1) if I have to order to go I will try not to order liquidy/saucy things 2) if I do order liquidy/saucy things I will ask for the plastic wrap treatment 3) aside from not having the appropriate to go containers for sauce, everything else about this place so far has been excellent, particularly the people and the food. I will be continuing to spent our hard-earned money supporting this local business.

5/5 - Outstanding Italian Dining Experience…read more Italian Deli Company in Pasadena exceeded our expectations in every way. The ambiance is beautiful, clean, and welcoming, with both indoor and outdoor seating that creates a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The mellow Italian music in the background added to the authentic dining experience. The food was exceptional. We ordered the Tagliatelle Polpette, Pollo e Prosciutto, Burrata e Prosciutto, and Salsiccia e Peperonata, and every dish was delicious and expertly prepared. The quality and freshness of the ingredients really stood out. From the fresh arugula and Parmesan cheese to the prosciutto and wine selection, everything tasted high-quality and carefully sourced. The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. A special touch was Chef Lalo coming out to greet us personally, which made the experience even more memorable. The portions were very generous and offered excellent value for the price. We ended up taking food home because there was so much, and every bite was worth it. As for the noise level, there were a few families with children, but everyone was respectful, and the overall atmosphere remained calm and relaxing. If you're looking for authentic Italian food, fresh ingredients, generous portions, and outstanding hospitality in Pasadena, Italian Deli Company is definitely worth a visit. We'll be back!

I want to thank Henry for reaching out to me after reading about our experience. Nothing says…read morecustomer service like going out of your way to make it right for your customers and Henry did just that. We went back today and the food was delicious. This time my husband got the Granada which was recommended to us by Henry and I got my usual Legendary. Both sandwiches were packed with meat/ chicken and on top of that they both came out hot and ready to devour. The bread was succulent and a good amount of mayo and ketchup was added. All in all this is the experience we had been wanting to have and I'm so glad we went back. Thank you to Henry, again, for going out of his way to make us feel welcomed and well attended. He was happy to have us back and we felt very appreciated as customers. Can't wait to come back and try other sandwiches!

I've been to Monty's twice now. First time was a great experience. I believe the owner was there…read moreand he seemed very passionate about the menu and ingredients they used. However, I went for a second time yesterday and was deeply disappointed. The owner wasn't there and instead a younger girl took my order and prepared the food. Everything seemed well and fine until I got home, opened my patty melt and found not 1 but 2 long hairs in my sandwich! They were clearly her hairs since she was the only one who handled my food. I went back and returned everything. I didn't see a hair in my other sandwich but couldn't even eat it without thinking what could be in each bite. The same girl was there when I returned and a young guy. I spoke with the guy and he gave me a refund right away and apologized. The girl who had made my food was maybe 5 feet away and couldn't even turn around to look at me or apologize. Very disappointing since the owner seemed like a nice guy who probably works extremely hard to build and maintain his business, only to have it ruined by some employee who couldn't even care enough to take 5 sec to put on a hair net. Shame on her.
